| I think 2006 was such a good season because our 'success' was built entirely on hard work and team spirit.
As I've already said, I do wonder if this team has that same strength of team spirit. Not sure how many of you agree, but I couldn't imagine many of our players sharing a pint down the pub and socializing away from the game. Conversely though, I suppose this could be a good thing given the trouble the Kiwi-cliques caused us last year and Tasi's reputation for enjoying the nightlife in Manchester.
Point is, no matter how much Iain Watson pays these players to jump on ecah other and celebrate after every try, there are too many journeymen in this squad and players on short contracts looking for other clubs or here simply because they've been suspended elsewhere - If Ferres joins as well the AJ Bell will be more like a swingers club than a rugby stadium next year. Maybe Im just being negative, but I cant see this helping build a strong winning culture.

| Quote: TheButcher "Off the bench I could see him as an impact player. As a back-rower? I'm not so sure. I don't think he has the pace to punch holes, break and put someone away. I can definitely see him as impact off the bench. Trouble is, with reduced interchanges, I think this kind of tactic needs to be applied with care from the backroom staff.'"
I agree. Worth remembering that this is the same reason we've gone big with wingers this season and why Huddersfield broke the bank to offer Jermaine McGillvary a new contract - ALL clubs will soon be using wingers as extra props to make up for fewer interchanges.
Make the Phil Joseph signing a biut baffling but worth remembering Martin Vickers was almost certain we'd secured the signature of Ukuuma Taa'i before he renegaded on us and signed for an extra year with Huddersfield. Phil Joseph was brought in as a like-for-like replacement.

Yeah i think we've finished recruiting although i can see loans being portrayed mid-season.
To be honest i'm worried looking at the pack. The backs look promising, but without a platform punched by the forwards it doesn't matter what back-line we've got. BMM gives me hope but i don't think thats enough, Hauraki and Walne's have to buckle up with their penalty count to keep the pressure of ourselves. I feel if our discipline has improved than last season that'll be a step in the right direction, because its been woeful in recent years. I really hope Tim has focused and addressed this issue. Team spirit also is a massive plus, this alone can carry you home victorious, lets hope the boys can prove my first impressions wrong.

| Apart from not being able to keep it in his pants I'd love too see him at Salford.
The type of forward who will be required going forward too take on more of the grunt that the reduced interchange will bring about.

| Quote: Michigan red "People seem to keep avoiding the notion that the forward pack is organically going to get smaller due to the reduction in interchanges, there will been less of a difference between front and back row players going forward. Salford might just be stealing a march on the rest by going for a big back line who can help share the work load around. Sa'u, Griffin, Vidot and Carney are all perfect backs to take the first 2 or 3 drives in a set.
.'"
I accept the new interchange rule change will discourage the use of short spell impact players but just because a player is physically big doesn't mean he isn't capable of playing longer minutes with the right conditioning. Clubs will now inevitably change their training methods and put a higher emphasis on endurance over explosive power to fully exploit this. Furthermore I think genetically big players will naturally over time adapt to playing longer minutes when they are having to do this on a regular basis. I think the biggest casualty of this change will be that props in Superleague probably won't play beyond the age of 32-33 unlike recently with Morley, Peacock and Leuluai etc.

I honestly don't know. I'm not really the guy 'in the know'. For that you'll need to ask John Gilbert Reds.
In my opinion I think Watson has said that he'd like another signing or two before Xmas. Whether that happens is anyone's guess. But I can see at least another one to come on board, simply because we're a bit short in numbers in certain positions. I wouldn't expect anyone incredibly earth-shattering though. With a bit of luck we'll land Ferres, as there's probably not many Clubs with enough cap space to accommodate him at this late stage of finalising squads. I wouldn't put my mortgage on it though.
