The main problem I think we have is the paper thin defence we have out wide.We let an early soft try in early again yesterday, result is heads went down leading to more loss of confidence in defence out wide.We really ,really need a good defensive coach to work with our lads, especially the three quarters. Oh for the days whe Jimmy Lowes was in charge of defence!!!

Phill Clarke summed us up pretty early on in the game. He noted that we were ambling back in defence, with slow ,slow play the balls and no enthusiasm.Wakey could easy have been 40 up by half time.

Lost this game in first half especially first 10 minutes
We need to recruit a defensive coach
are Wild, McpHearson, Goodwin playing while not fully fit ?
How many penalties did Neroand Jewitt give away ?
Howarth missing to many tackles and to slow passing from PTB
Opposition clubs are marking Holdsworth, Smith, Pattan out of game, no other phase of attack
bring Sneyd in to vary attack
No use Pattan scoring /making tries if he is giving more away, he cannot tackle and his line defence is awful
Everyone was saying before the season started we need two big props
No use blaming simms if he has'nt the money available to sign anyone

I am not trying to make light of a poor performance but it has to be recognised that SCR just do NOT do Saturdays.Since the non-performance in January,at the new stadium,we have not won any of the 4 games on a Saturday. The fact that Sky have been there for 2 of those games hasn't helped.
If we get to Wembley, although it's on a Saturday, the BBC will be there.Anyway, the journey is sometimes more interesting than the destination.Leeds did lose their last Sunday game, and it was to a team who had lost their previous 4 games, and who play in red.
I do have a positive from yesterday.Marc Sneyd was wearing a lovely shade of blue boot which was even more fetching than the orange boots displayed at Whitehaven.
If he's in the squad for Sunday I reckon he will have an even more stand-out colour. What is wrong with red ?

Keep the faith.Don't forget to turn out on Sunday.Should they get to Wembley you'll never forgive yourselves if you miss this game. group-hug.gif

I watched on SKY and there appeared to be very little motivation if any until the dying minutes.
I'm not sure but I'd be willing to bet we're in the minority (if not the only ones) not to have a dedicated defensive coach. Would suspect in SL that most teams have a head coach, an attacking coach and also a defensive one. We could do worse than speaking to Halifax to see if Karl Harrison would be available for one day per week to work on this as we always seemed to have a very structured and capable defense when he was in charge. I think at the very least we need to get someone from Hope Hospital in to explain anatomoy to the players and point out a persons legs as from what I saw yesterday they appear too all have fragile backs that can't be bent low enough to get low on an opposition player.

Think the club has to face facts that though Wagga is without doubt a quality hooker he isn't the number one pick as Owen offers much more direction from the PTB, is much quicker off the mark to make cheap yards and appears to be on a level with Wagga defensively.

Think that from what I have seen over the past few games Feka appears to have re discovered his love for Greggs and needs to knuckle down again and get back to his early season fitness before the warmer weather hopefully kicks in and he is found wanting even more (also the penalty on the last tackle yesterday was school boy stuff). With Patten retiring would hope that recruitment of a big quality prop is on the cards and not another FB, as someone else has said the kick in the junior team looks more than capable and I'd also like to see what Snyed is like in something like a Tomkins switch.

I do fear that should we get a tonking next Sunday that the season is gone and that it won't be long before people start to get on Vauxhalls back and maybe even see Long do one as he is hardly known for his rational thinking over the years.

I sometimes feel that some of the Sky commentators have it in for Salford, yesterday they all had it in for them and quite rightly it was embarrassing. But for me the comment that summed Salford up came from Jon Wells in his half time summary when he said.....

[iIf you have nothing positive to say at all it's best to say nothing, so .... moving on to Wakefield.

Why is it there's never a grey area in sight on here? (or the Facebook group for that matter).

Did it escape everyone that Howarth still couldn't pass, our pack was still to lightweight and Patten, for all his attacking gifts, can look suspect on the back foot?

Did nobody realise that the whole 'Barton Globetrotters' thing was borne partly out of necessity as we simply don't have a Super League-standard pack (ie, we can't go through most teams so we have to go at around them).

I'll accept that we looked as though we weren't trying for the first 40 minutes. But the big difference in the second half was that the 'hail Mary' balls that were sticking when we were winning and had a bit more confidence were ending up on the floor; the lack of a proper pack also means that when the expansive game doesn't work we don't have a 'route one' option.

The reality is, we've punched above our weight a few times this season (mainly due to Long's input and the bit of class we have out wide IMO) but to compete consistently you need a dominant pack, and dominant packs cost money.

The first half performance has got to be one of our worst in recent history. 22-6 down with Wakey bombing another 3 certain tries. We only had one play the ball within 40m of their tryline in the entire first half. icon_surprised.gifops:
