| You have to be pleased for the coach who has had a ridiculous amount of stick but clearly knows what he's doing.

| I thought Salford looked quite sharp with Ratchford and Holdsworth controlling things reasonably well. It just seemed to lack a little killer instict when it came to attacking in the three quarters area, though Gibson did pretty well too.
I thought the left side defence was very good and did well to keep Goulding out on a few occaisions too.
Overall, after seeing that performance yesterday I'm suprised by Salford's poor start to the season. Also, I'm not sure if McRae is the right coach for that group of players.

| Salford did a lot of good things right yesterday, a bit of composure in attack and you could have really worried us. I predicted a tough hard game and that's what we got. Apart of Saints and Wire games we've had, yours yesterday was the toughest we've had and it was good to see Salford working hard in defence like they did in the first half to keep Wigan from scoring making us cause errors. Keep up consistent performances like yesterday and you'll get a good few more results this year. I suppose it hasn't helped with you having injuries all over the show, of course the people on the sky cameras are only interested in Leeds players being injured but I think with the limited squad you have you'll obviously get better when you get a fully fit squad as proven yesterday with some key players back.

| Quote: Adamjk "I like Tyrer when he has ball in hand, not so much when the opposition has it and he has to defend. He's made some gaffes this season, knocking on after kicks on the 5th tackle under little to no pressure and today when he left the ball to go out for a 40-20.
'"
For two tries he was out of position and let them run in the try without trying to tackle aswell, hes one of them who has a good game then a bad game.

Once they did push Ratchford over (think it was him) when he was trying to play the play forcing him to knock on, that one should of been interference?

Oh definitely. But as mentioned in another thread, Thierry tends to miss this kind of thing. Not deliberately; just by his complete ineptness. Certainly not gonna knock the Wigan player that did it. He obviously realised that there was a chance for him to get away with a sly shove, knowing full well that the ref was likely to miss it.

Not sure that Mcrae's stint at saints makes Wigan fans the most unbiased of commentators

Not at all.
You could see in the warm up that Salford can ping a ball about with good speed, accuracy and fluency but despite good work by your pack it just didn't come together and the overall structure just seemed to be missing. It could be a similar situation that we had with Brian Noble.
There seems to be a new era of young, overseas coaches who have been in touch and involved with playing & coaching in the NRL in recent years who know the latest & best way to get the best out of current Rugby League players in the modern game physically, mentally and tactically.
Unfortunately, I think McRae's coaching methods are out of date and I think it would a huge, positive impact if they got coach in the same mould as Michael Maguire, Nathan Brown, Tony Smith or Brian McLennan who can bring in an extra dimension to the game.

| Was happy with what I saw from the lads yesterday (after I missed the first 20 mins due to the fecking trams again! ). Defensively we were excellent again and to keep Wigan to 3 tries was no mean feat although I did think the tries they scored were a touch on the soft side. We matched them up front and although I was never confident we quite had enough to win the game we gave a good account of ourselves which is all we can ask for. I think both teams looked a little tired which is understandable but the effort was tremendous. If we can match this level of performance against the mid/lower table teams then we can definitely push for a top 10 finish. Many thanks to all the complementary posts from Wigan fans on here as well, nice to see fans appreciating our efforts and may I return those sentiments to the Wigan team who, IMO, are a major threat to the Saints/Leeds dominance this year.
Now on to Mr Coley. Now I love abusing opposition players like anyone else and feel that an element of abuse/jeering is part and parcel of the game in order to intimidate/put off other teams. I think the time has come to lay Mr Coley to rest (not in the literal meaning ). He shat on us by the manner in which he left our club and we are rightly disgruntled with him for that. He also knows he is not going to get the warmest welcome every time he retuirns to the Willows. I thought the effort a lot of fans put into abusing him in the last few minutes (when the game was lost) and after the final whistle could have been better spent praising our own team after what was a gutsy effort.
Finally, did anyone see O'Loughlin getting clocked on the side of the head by one of those stress balls at the start of the 2nd half? Now, I in no way condone "missile throwing" at players but it was a tad funny .

Yeah I saw it and, while I thought it was a pretty stupid thing to do, I'll admit I laughed.
Fair play to O'Loughlin for seeing the funny side of it and laughing it off.

| another fantastic effort by the players making wigan play and show why they are a champions team to finish us off.
Thought we built pressure well and i dont think physically and effort wise we can ask anymore.
Lets hope we can continue in this vain of form for the weeks and months to come.
