| Best moment in the match?
When the Wigmaster Hemmings announced that Myler was limping off and in his next turn of phrase, announce the man of the match as his replacement who still plays at Salford.
I'm not one to gloat, but it struck me as particularly poetic...

| Well done Matty. Was well pleased to see he got picked and took his chance brilliantly. His kicking game and positional play throughout was top drawer me thinks and well deserved the man of the match award. I just hope he can produce this kind of form next season for ourselves ( ). Good luck for the next game matty & enjoy the occasion

| dunno but richie myler was quiet
in all seriousness fair play to matty smith, he destroyed saints when you boys played them in may and then takes it on the chin hes been recalled only because of injury and if theyre fit he probs wont get picked and then plays a stormer. brilliant

| He is a superb scrum half. You can now see why Saints fans were pleased he came back?
Eastmond is a special talent so I can't say letting Smith go was a bad decision but it's a cracking signing for Salford. You get a competitve pack on the field and with him and Holdsworth in the halves you will rocket up the table.
Special praise has to go to his attitude tonight as well. Ran his blood to water despite it being a late call from a club who had deemed him not wanted. A lot of players would have gone through the motions, but not Matty.

| Matty was superb.
You got a cracking player there, who will play better next year with the good signings you have made... But please lets keep him for a bit longer.

I've been saying this for 18 months now. With only one genuine prop setting him a platform, he's struggled to find the space and time he clearly had last night.
However, he really does need to work on his passing game. As you'll have seen last night, he habitually tends to pass the ball behind a runner at some point in every game. Perhaps as he doesn't quite understand this particular play. He also, as a matter of urgency needs to learn how to pass mid to long range passes with his left hand. I'm more than happy to teach him!

Hey - he fits in well at Saints for that reason. We get someone doing that in every match.
It's a shame he fluffed his try scoring opportunities as I think had he been able to take those that would have really topped the experience off well for him. As is, he rose to the occasion anyway and his organisation and kicking game didn't surprise me at all: I remembered them from the last time he salvaged our playoff chances.
I really do hope that we play him again in the next match and - if we win - THIS time he goes to the Grand Final with us. He will certainly deserve it if he plays like he played last night.

| Thought his performance was superb last night attacked the wire line brilliantly throughout if he can do it in a saints shirt he can do it in a salford one.
"my future lies with salford" after that performance probably best bit of marketing of the season for me

So long as you have a much improved pack. Halfbacks can only do their best when they have a hardworking pack in front of them. Saints' pack worked their collective bollox off last night.
I said on here when you first got him that he was a good player. I don't think you've seen the best of him this season because the players around him haven't been good enough on the whole, or not had a good enough attitude, whichever. However, with some hardworking beef up front and some backs who read play then you should see similar performances from him yourselves next season.

Your right on both points.
I was pleased with Matty last night he had a great game, that said he was always going to be MOTM as baldy and wiggy never stopped waxing lyrical about him from the off, a bit like the Briers for Britain campaign.

| smiths kicking for us this year was great,he did a few 40-20 and setting up trys with his kicking! his passing was a bit dissapointing this year though as it was to no one all low on the floor but with the new strong squad we got for next year we will hope to see him play like he did last night!his interview was great to hear!

But they were right to. You don't watch Saints every week, obviously, but I can tell you that the impact he had on our team was palpable. We haven't looked that organised and that dominant at any time during the season. His kicking game and his organisational ability plus his level headed approach was spot on for us and was what we have been lacking all season. I have been one of the Saints fans consistently against letting Matty go and last night I felt somewhat vindicated. No, he's not a flashy Eastmond type but that's just a type. He is solid and professional and committed, with great skill in his boot, potential in his hands and a good rugby brain. With bigger forwards and brighter backs, he will go very well for you and I wish we'd kept hold of him as he would complement the likes of Eastmond.
