| Quote: Ave It! "I've seen talk of certain fans wearing RED Jester hats on Sunday, fully grown men as well! Please if you are thinking of joining in with the wacky behaviour please think again, it's embarrassing, we're Salford RLFC supporters not supporters of Warrington, What next, a Fricking drum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ave it mate your partly the reason why Salford fans aren't close nit like fans like other teams supporters, it does my head in you have certain groups who think they have a say on what people do at the game, at the end of the day it's nothing what's so ever to so with you! If someone wants to wear a hat they can if they want their face painted they can and if they want to bang a drum they can you dont set the rules pal, fans pay their money just like you so they are entitled to have their own fun what ever that might be!
RANT OVER.

| Never happen in my day...I surpose its the ever evolving face of salford city reds supporters different generations play by different rules I surpose.
If we are going to expand our support you can't guarantee the fans wont be middle aged shirt wearing jesterhat fans or Danny dyer lookerlikes with an a too cool for school attitude.
Remember in the shed we had a right of passage you had to earn your stripes over the years perhaps moving to Barton has changed this process

| I would have thought wearing some funny hat is mild to the antics of our so called fans. Give me 500 hat wearing fans than the 50 or so we took to wigan

A right of passage? I stood in the shed since the age of 5 when I was first taken by my grandad back in 1992 I've never had to or thought you had to so called earn my stripes? Or do you mean to stand with the turkey boys that's what you had to do? I'm sorry but 20 or so groups of men who like to have a sing song arnt the be all and end all. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how long you've been going how much you spend at the game how you dress how you sing what ever! If you go out of your way to support Salford RLFC then that's all that matters.
And optimist don't you remember 1995/1996/1997 seasons with the whole Viking hats being worn and tune being played over the tannoy they even sold little drums with REDS on them and a good few got sold and used at games even to this day we sing the Vikings tune, what's the difference between a Viking helmet and a jester hat? In my opinion it just makes the atmosphere more family friendly and it's also good for the kids.
In the coming years if things go our way were going to have hopefully thousands more fans coming through the turnstyles and tbh I don't think they'll give a rats ass what ave it, the optimist, walshy and the rest of the shed members club think.

Well if we are having a history lesson I started watching salford at the scoreboard end on and off from 8 in the late 80s/early 90s then I moved to the north stand from say 12 till 16 with my dad then after meeting a couple of people my own age I ventured into the shed back left corner and eventually moved towards the centre.
It doesnt make me less or more of a supporter than you I do agree with your its its supporting salford is all that matters statement and its really its how you promote the club to everyone you know and try and entice them in to supporting salford that is where my priority lie at the moment
My current count of "new fans" is 4 which is good imo I have a few irons in the fie so hopefully soon somebody else will bite and I can send another fan on the journey.
95/96/97 might be wrong but wasnt that our double 1st division championship win / cup runs when everyone was on the up you can get away with everything when your successful I do like the idea of bringing viking hats back its celebrating our heritage nearly much closer than a jesters hat
Im not bothered for the record what people wear at the match, ive worn a hawaini shirt, a flat cap, bar scarfs, afro wig, big England hat, sombrato and inflatable ref and big elton john glasses during my time watching salford but i am one of the more "eccentric" people in our group was all about having fun back then not anymore imo its eather people wanting to look cool or people who want to stand out in the crowd.
I dont go away from home anymore on a regular basis so Im not qualified to discuss our current away following so please dont put me im the same category as Walsh and Avit these boys are here week in week out following the boys all over the show.
I do think we need to look forward and not back and embrace change or we will die

That last sentence is the most important! Us fans need to welcome change because long gone are the days in the shed where everyone had (their place) it's a completely new chapter in the clubs history and the soon people learn to deal with it the better.

And all at the same time
I've no issue with anyone really wearing anything that doesn't seriously offend people for genuine reasons. I do though seriously wish that grounds would ban drums, bugles or any other form of instrument as it's nothing short off annoying noise pollution (always thought I'd like to have a gut full of curry and a few Guinness's the night before a Warrington game and drop some personal fragrance throughout the match next to the drummer and see if he/she thinks it's OK to pollute the atmosphere).
Am I the only one who thinks that some form of Devil Horns sold by the club might be a nice earner and a way for the club to promote itself that fans actually want to embrace as let's face it we'd all love to go back to the Red Devil as our club crest.

Support your team by all means, but leave the Jester hats to other Rugby League fans please.
So us Bradford fans are mongys?

We were always cutting edge tho back in the glory days we had banners long before anyone else did, louder more songs pioneers in a way nothing new about jester hats nothing edgy about that imo

Devil horns or sponge devil forks. I think the devil should be on the opposite side of the reds badge on the shirt or on the back of the colour abit like Utd have on their shirts.

I get where your coming from but all this (cutting edge)
Stuff just gets duplicated by other clubs fans normally on a far bigger scale and everybody forgets Salford were the originals, like a lot of songs sung over the years I swear I've never heard them before it was sung by the red army in the shed but again they (songs) are too copied and we never get any credit.

| Jester hats, half and half scarves(not in rugby yet but it will happen),drums, people who wear a sweatshirt underneath a replica top, old women in replica tops, inflatable toys, middle aged men in face paint.
All of the above should be banned.
WTF has happened to supporters nowadays?
Cant people just go to a game and support their team.
We are Salford and have more class and common sense than other clubs who feel the need to do one or all of the above.
