What is your point exactly? I'm guessing Brett Ferres isn't well known for piledriving players into the ground, but he did it to Johnny Lomax and rightly got banned for it. Does the fact that someone hasn't done something before somehow excuse them from punishment or criticism when they commit foul play?

My point is - unlike some other players- murphy is not the kind of player to deliberately go out to hurt someone - which is what some of the fans on here are making out.

Jools, I don't want to get into a massive debate here but any sort of sexual assault is wrong and cannot be condoned. I don't know the in's and out's of the Johnson case but I believe he was punished and has a right to move on with his life. I'd like to think you don't class all blokes as sex pests as your post does come across a little that way? As for the Murphy elbow I can't comment, I was stood in the South Stand. I hope my fellow Salford posters on here who saw what happened are able to view the incident on it's merits and give an entirely unbiased view on what really took place.

Those examples you give are nothing like the same- they involved family disputes- this was a sexual and physical attack on a stranger.

You do realise that you are doing the same thing for Murphy in this thread. The only thing anyone wants to debate was whether a RL player deliberately harmed another RL player. Most have said that it looked deliberate, others have said they didn't see. Only you are saying that he couldn't possibly have done it. Dragging in either players personality or history does nothing for the argument. It literally makes no difference in this case.

Did player A get his jaw broken by player B? Was it deliberate? That's all there is to debate on the subject.

The judgement on the breaking of the jaw will be tough as Johnson had 2 lots of treatment prior to leaving the pitch. Should have left the field the 2nd time and been checked thoroughly.
Instead 2 Salford 'medics' kept the player kneeling on the touch line deliberately holding the game up. refusing the leave the field.

When Chase smashed Ropati's jaw he got 3 matches. Even if Murphy did something it doesn't come close to the Ropati hit.

As most people know I'm no fan of the player concerned but his past has no relevance to this topic.

I'd personally not be happy to see any player on a rugby field get injured regardless of his history.
