I find it odd that if we have no quota spots taken that we have only heard a mention of the young lad from Melbourne (who I fail to see coming to Salford as he is meant to be something very special) yet PV spent some time over in Oz, maybe he was busy getting all those hollow promises to return from Moon.

Total masterstoke from the decision makers at the club that he was awarded a 4 and a half year contract at the start of his tenure then?
As for geniuses in hindsight - you don't need to be top of the class to be able to see the continual mistakes Salford have made down the years, you just need to open your eyes to reality.
As for financial problems being a bolt from the blue - didn't Mal Alker all but state recently that we have had money advanced to us early in the past to alleviate financial problems? Similarly how recent was the loan from the council (was that a £1million?), the loans from our own foundation (yet to be denied from the club), the £250k bank loan that has been brought up recently (think it was The Sun).
I seriously hope these paintings Wilky secures all our debt against are some previously undiscovered da Vinci's or we've got no chance.

| Quote Iain="Iain"I think "speculating" was part of the problem. There were arguably safer, more solid signings that could have been made, but we appeared to splash cash based on past reputations. Two of the "big signings" never played for the club, one took a year to get remotely fit, others were plagued by injuries. And it wasn't really surprising. I remember reading at the time a couple of journalists saying how the word in the game was that Salford had "signed a few lemons", then the stories came out about the club not bothering with medicals before signing.
There's little doubt that the playing budget was increased, but it wasn't increased very wisely.'"
I recall being told when we signed Bailey that the Wigan board were putting it around that he would never play for us. Obviously, the inevitable soon happened and he never played for the club and Salford sprung into normal damage limitation mode and put the story out that it was an injury 'unrelated' to all his other injuries, pah!

No aussie players are gonna fly half way round the world to join pre season training, on the promise of so called investment before the club can afford to pay their wages. Even our better academy players such as Walne have seen the light and decided to look elsewhere after getting fed up of waiting for Salford to get things sorted.

Glad you mentioned this as I've thought it for a long time now, I honestly believe there were people at Salford and Wigan who knew Bailey would never put his boots on again once released, and I think Bailey knew his days were over, however the Salford juggernaught was moving at pace and we were signing new players seemingly by the day and IMO he was offered what could only be described as a big fat cigar to pen his name as the latest Salford signing.
On the other hand I could be wrong and corners were cut by not giving a worryingly injury prone player a medical.

Yet another observation made with the benefit of hindsight. Anyone would think that Salford is the only sports club in history to make mistakes or appointments that don’t always work out.
My eyes are wide open and I fully acknowledge where decisions have been made that have turned out to be mistakes. The difference is I choose to take a more balanced view on the situation, as I will when the new owners eventually take the reins.
You and a few others on here present yourself to me as ignorant, bitter and prejudiced with no first hand knowledge or experience to fully understand the difficulties or obstacles a club like Salford face.
I’ve learned with experience never to judge people too harshly for something I’ve never done myself.

Not always the best thing to do - but people have had meetings and regular contact with members of club staff and, believe it or not, have friends who work there. I'm not saying anyone could you the full run down of what goes on behind the scenes, far from it, but it is possible to make an informed decision and statement on some of the mistakes that have been made in the running of the club. Mistakes that haven't been made by the majority of staff who work their b*llocks off, I have to say. It also means that, when necessary, you can make an informed decision to defend/support some of the work done by the club. A little bit like, if you want an example, when I defended the heritage walk and, more recently, defended the fact that the Manchester 9s RL tournament wasn't taking place in dedicated RL facilities. Because, y'know, none exist in Manchester. But someone still tried to use it against the club.
So, you see, we're not all out to just slag the club off and be bitter. We're not all here to comment on wild speculation and spread baseless rumour that can harm the club unneccessarily. Some of us are here to try and proffer a balanced view on the goings on at the club. As I've said before, it's a bit hard to do so when you're stuck inbetween two groups of people with the view of either "everything at the club is sh*t" or "everything is OK and any criticism is an attack on Salford RLFC", both of whom accuse you of being allied with the other.
By the way:
"no first hand knowledge or experience to fully understand the difficulties or obstacles a club like Salford face"
I've been involved with a local non league football team for a few years now. I know the difficulties involved. I also know the importance of communication with supporters and the short and long-term effects the "odd" cock-up can have.

Wrong If you take the time to read my posts I do actually acknowledge the mistakes I'm just not as obsessed or hysterical enough like some to keep pointlessly repeating them over and over. Or jump on every topic and turn into a rotten tomato throwing event.

FC United. I'm involved in both the community work and club membership. Before that I volunteered on the main office desk and worked on the club's community share issue, as well as running a local supporters' branch and helping out with other random jobs as needed on a home match day.
