| I think now is the perfect time to sign Morley. Get him at our club when he's ready to retire, and offer him a contract on the coaching staff... and also as an ambassador for the club.. when his playing career is over.
Yes... he's at the end of his playing days... but Morley has way too much to offer after his time is up for him to be part of the setup at Warrington... He needs to be here... helping his hometown club out. He's a passionate bloke when it comes to RL... He'd be a great asset.
This would be more than a contract to play for me.

Some ambassador he's not wanted to know us for 17 year.

To be fair to the guy... he's been out of our league for years. His playing levels have warranted a better salary than we could afford... It's a short career... and I for one don't blame him for a minute.

| I'm with LF 100% on this. As a club we've never been in a position to justify Mozza wanting to sign for us. If, over the last 10-15 years we were in a position to challenge for honours I'm sure he'd have been proud to wear the shirt. He's had a great career and IMO is still one of the best front rowers out there and as a Salford lad we should be proud of what he's achieved. If his body is up to it (which only he'll know) let's get him here for next season. We've got bags of potential in our young props and his influence (like Cashmere's) would be invaluable. As long as he doesn't want a fortune bring him "home" & let him lead the club out at Barton. Unlike some players, who would happily steal a living at 34/35 to put food on the table, I'm convinced he'd give nothing more than 110% for the club.

I don't blame him LF he's had a great career in the game and I'm pleased to see a Salford lad do well. I just have a problem with Salford signing big name players that are ready to hang up their boots and are injury prone. I would much rather see the club develop the Adrian Morley's of the future. I understand the argument about having experienced players in the team but personally I think we already have enough old heads in the squad.
Maybe he could offer the club some extra publicity but I doubt the financial effect would come close to covering his big contract?

| I'd say for three reasons this is a good idea.
1, He is still without doubt one of the best props runnning around in the SL and would if he can stay fit be a brilliant mentor for the good young forwards we have in our squad.
2, With todays announcement of the Media City link up with need a media savvy and recognisable figure head to help us fully exploit the numerous chances that this will afford us.
3, Just read that Mozza has already gained his level coaching badge and it seems is eager to go into coaching so why not give him a rolling 1 year deal with the promise of assitance in his coaching classes and then when he retires a role within the club.
Very much doubt from next year he will be playing as many games per minute but think he raises his game for the really big games and should we progress as a team next season they are the ones we need to be putting in the effort to win.

| 3 or 4 years ago yes, now, no thanks.
Got nothing against Mozza but even with a wealth of know how I just can't see anything he would add to Salford RLFC going forward. IMO any money he'd demand would be better spent elsewhere!

| I would love to see him here, and don't have a problem with his age etc, his talent has always been beyond us, in fact Easts havn't been the same without him rarther than chasing grand finals (other than once) they have been spoon dodging, whilst wire got four great years from him.
What does concern me (and maybe this should be for another thread mods decide) is apart from the backroom mess at the club this season is Salfords apparent lack of interest in actually gaining that top eight spot people promised at the start of the season, for instance Phil Baileys contract should have been replaced with someone else rarther than penny pinch (the money was there for Bailey) with that I mean everyone knows we need a prop, guess what Leeds just released two forwards ok Burguess was going to Souths but Ben Cross was there for the taking, and what really annoys me is a team like Wigan who only spend pennies on there squad suddenly find some more cash for Cross to bolster there champion team not to mention an extra salary for the reformed smack head.
So money should be no problem for Morley cos Baileys money is sat there and next season another million or so quid comes in from sky (I believe) ..
Cue abuse .

I do agree about Cross, when I saw he'd been released I fully expected us to go get him and now i see Wigan have him for the rest of the season and Widnes next year for me just shows a lack of understanding in that market of where the squad has been lacking this season.
Would think that Mozza would part finance his deal in the added revenue and commercialism his name alone would bring, bright shiny new stadium, associate sponsership with a corporate mecca and a genuine RL household name - it is'nt rocket secience. "

Coley was never actually at Warrington although he's a Warrington lad. The story I heard was that in 2000 Warrington looked at signing him for 2001, but Van de Velde wasn't convinced about his injury record so we didn't end up offering him a deal and he signed for Salford. That was a bad move on our part as Coley would have been a very good forward to have during that era when we were struggling to find our feet and I thought he was a very impressive player at Salford, the other Salford forward we should have signed was Jowitt but to be fair he did have injury problems, but was a formidable forward when fit.
With Morley I hope he stays and finishes his career with us, I would be disappointed to lose him to Salford even at this stage of his career. Salford being a club at the lower end of the table, are in the position that we were in for many years, where if they sign Morley it will be perceived as an old player past his best going to take one final pay day. But we signed Brett Hodgson who is at the end of his career and has been IMO our player of the season. Nobody really fussed about us signing Hodgson but a few years ago when we were signing guys like Forshaw etc we got all of the flak about it.
Also you can't hold it against Morley for not signing for Salford earlier in his career, he's been one of the world's best forwards for 13 years, and for that time Salford have been struggling as any Salford fan would admit, how could they realistically tempt him away from Leeds or Sydney Roosters. I can see the value from a marketing perspective of getting him on board for the new season in a new stadium because he is the leading forward of his generation and he is a Salford lad and also a great bloke who knows how to conduct himself and be a good ambassador in the media.

I remember when all the Wire fans were clamouring for us to get an "assistant coach who has a track record of winning things like Jimmy Lowes" when Salford were having a good season in 2006

Not often you'll hear my say anything good about a Warrington poster, but good post.
Salford have had their chances to sign Morley. I'm sure he wanted to sign for the club as a junior, but when the offer never came he had no choice but to sign for Leeds. To be fair, it probably worked out better for him. Then in 2006, when we were riding high on the back of a play off appearance, the club should have pulled out all the stops to sign Morley.
It does make me dwell on what might have been!
I still think he could have provided the inspiration to make this season a more successful one. Could he manage next season? If he wants it and he's up to the job, he could still be the catalyst.
As for Coley, correct, he never even played for Warrington.

Apart from being a better player than any of your current pack, I agree.
