Sorry if it upsets people on here but your owner has mislead you before and you still continue to fall for it. Here's a straight question. How many of you bought season tickets on his promise of "top 4, top 6 minimum." Go on, give an honest answer and if he had given a money back guarantee on it would you be asking for your money back. Hard hat on ready for being accused of being a troll when OP can say what he wants about Cas and Wire fans.'"
Incidentally, this is [iexactly[/i what I mean when I speak about people being ignorant of the facts. You've no idea what Salford fans were thinking at the time, nor what we're thinking now, and I see little evidence to back up your assertions, which suggests you haven't checked. Instead, you've decided you know what we're thinking, and, [iquelle surprise[/i, what we think backs up what you believesome[/i fans of certain, unnamed clubs tend to do on here: distort the facts so they fit the opinions they've already reached (or make those facts up) rather than use the facts to inform their opinions.

| I don't think any serious Salford fan thought for one minute that the top 4 was a realistic target for this season. I think most like me thought that making the top 8 would have been seen as a successful first season in which we could compete with the big boys in SL.
I also to some degree think that the Doc made his statement about making the top four based on his previous head coaches say so, this and some of the signings/loan deals he made have proved too be for me what will ultimately cost us a top 8 finish this season.

Yep. Also, it's been pointed out on here numerous times before that Koukash never 'promised' top 4, top 6 minimum, yet some people seem to bring it up at every opportunity. He said something along the lines of top 4 would be great and that he, personally, was expecting us to make the top 6. It's ridiculous to suggest people bought season tickets based on that one comment in the press.
Re Gareth Owen, has anybody managed to see him play at all for Sheffield this season? I had a look at their lineups for games and saw that they generally have him on the interchange bench, not really able to get any indication as to how they used him and how many minutes he gets.

Walne x2
Griffin x2
Caton Brown
Evalds
Williams
Walton
Johnson
Owen
Ford
Hope
+ Sneyd (technically still ours until end of season)
+Fages (not British but he is going to be a star for france)
BJB (next year)
Might i add as well that is 14 players that are getting regular first team football where ever they are mostly with us. I hope all the cas fans come crawling on here and see this because it just shows that MK does not want to buy a team of nrl stars and bring them to super league. MK is embarrassing all of you people slagging him off,he is also embarrassing those that have told him he does not need to spend money and purely rely on youth, and those generally sat behind there keyboards and thinking they can run a club better than him. Do you not think he already knew this? All those that despise a man for promoting a youth culture and wanting to spend his own money can go love yourselves quite simply. You are all laughable and need to keep on walking onto the next forum to spew your poop all over. As Salford fans we know what he is doing and can see it in the pudding, I have seen many a troll come on here and go back with their tails in between there legs, due to the fact when shown the proof they have nothing to say and don't come back until we hit the headlines for something else, Simply put go spew your bull somewhere else sick of it, Mk is leaving us for nrl, weve spent over the cap blahh blahhh blahhh. At the end of the day our chairman is building for the future and a very good one at that, the rest of you are just jealous of what he is doing in some sick deluded way and feel the need to bombard him on social media with all sort of stupidity.'"

| Quote: Red John "Marwan identified the weaknesses in Salford's academy set up very early on (I remember him referring to it in one of his 'open days'). He wanted to bring Shane Flanagan over for a three month stint to address the issues, but visa difficulties meant there wasn't sufficient time left for him to come over once he finally received that visa. The club have said they're in weekly contact with him, and Iestyn will be going over to work with him during the close season. Beneath the eye-catching stuff like the marquee signing, Marwan is actually doing the things people think he should do.'"
I sincerely hope he does. I have made my views on the home grown vs marquee debate clear - and have no wish to have one now - I must confess I found the report disturbing, as little/ no progress appears to have been made - but I do hope it gets the care and attention it deserves, having the ability to tap into the Manchester area for new talent would have a massive affect on rugby league imo.
Anyway to answer the OPs question, saints home grown team for this season would look like:
Lomax*
Makinson** Percival Jones* Swift
Eastmond** Smith**
Graham** Roby** Thompson
Clough Ashurst
Wilkin**
Ellis Emmitt*** Richards Greenwood
* England knights caps
** full England honours
*** not technically in sl I admit but a good player for Leigh
With a couple more (Dean, Moore, Dixon, Gaskell, Foster) running around.

Salford pretty much lost its academy after the financial implosion, just as that academy was starting to produce players for the first team. Even so, the academy then was far from perfect, and, obviously, there's a lot more work to be done, but we can't expect massive improvements in such a short space of time. As I said, Marwan has already mentioned the academy as something the club needs to address, and, contrary to what fans of other clubs seem to think, he's generally delivered on what he says about Salford. There's no reason why we can't have an improved academy and a marquee player at the top, which is why I think Eamonn McManus is being disingenuous when he tries to turn it into an either/or issue and pretends that's what's good for the game.
As for a Salford home grown team, well, without resorting to 'good players for Leigh' or former Hull KR players as you have, it'll leave a few gaps, but...
Evalds
Platt, Turner, Watkins, ***
Ratchford, Sneyd/Fages
A Walne, Owen, ***
J Walne, Walton
***
There may be others and I'm sure someone will fill in the gaps, but all of those players are playing regularly in SL, with the exception of Michael Platt and of Gareth Owen, who should be but isn't because of an error by a previous coach who sent him out on season long loan. Considering how poor our academy is, that's not too shabby.

| And another point regarding this 'ability to tap into the Manchester area' argument. This 'Manchester area' ignores the fact that the sport is all but non existent in Manchester and only exists in some of the towns and cities around it, where there is a bit of competition from the likes of Wigan, Warrington, Leigh, Rochdale, Oldham, etc. for that talent. I suspect Saints face less competition for talent in the Liverpool area.

Indeed, didn't Saints also have a dual reg/tie-in to Rochdale in the last couple of years too?
The truth is that all the scouts for Wigan, Warrington and Saints are regularly seen at amateur grounds certainly around the Oldham/Rochdale/Salford area where there are a number of amateur teams. On top of that, Leeds, Bradford and Hudds scouts plunder the area too, especially in Oldham and Rochdale. So, we have actually have quite a small amount of talent in the Manchester area where half of the SL teams, including Salford, are operating to try and pick up the best talent for their Academies.
