| Quote: RedDave "Or could it be that potential coaches price themselves out of it by asking for too much money?
It seems to me that the club is in a no win situation. If there is no statement then we get anxious because we don't know what's going on; if it drip feeds information along the way then people put a spin on these statements and may come up with the wrong answer.
In the mean time we are left with rumour and speculation. Other clubs looking for a new coach manage to carry out their selection process in relative secrecy as they haven't had a coaching vacancy so publicly obvious.
One thing I am certain of is that we need a new coach urgently and that coach needs to be a good one. The sooner it is all resolved the better. I don't care whether the new coach is perceived as first, second or third choice in some people's minds as long as he is good at his job and can get this group of players to perform to their potential on attack and defend with organisation, spirit and purpose.'"
You may not care but some potential coaches do care about these things. and if simms had not cleared it with Wrigley that he was going public then that would be another c*ck up.

| Quote: theredshed "I don't think it does. How could Wrigley be first choice before they even interviewed him or all the other applicants? Had he turned it down, had they offered him the job, then that would be different. From where I'm sat he's applied for the job and changed his mind before the interview. As it says in the newspaper there are still several others in Australia and England who want the job.'"
So it was NOT an interview but it WAS talks with Wrigley and talks with his agent. And as a result of these talks - not an interview - Wrigley says that he is not interested in the salford job.
And then the need for a public announcement from Simms.
The jabbering with the press by Simms shows he is out of his depth with such an important project. .

Can't really blame him can you?

| I can't understand some of the comments in the past few hours.
I've never been to an interview and been the only person they see, surely prudence dictates that with Wilky, Clague and Simms in Australia we do proper interviews in any interested in the job and then use due dilligence making the biggest decision in decades by any Salford coach.
To me it shows that we for once ar going about things the right way rather than making a knee jerk reaction and appointing John Harvey mk11.
I'm willing to give them all the time they need to get the right man to turn us into a competitive top 6 side in bright shiney state of the art stadium rather than a shambolic outfit in a crumbling hole.

Did the Silver Fox bang your missus or something?!
Your comments about our search for a new coach are far more damning and potentially destructive than Simms' quotes in the MEN.

| [iPress reports this morning state Wests Tigers assistant coach Peter Gentle is more than keen to join the Reds, and from what I've read it's a two-year [£100,000] deal on offer.
Everything could be sorted out as early as Wednesday this week.

| Sometimes the press exadurate storys to make good news we will never find the real reason behind wrigley not taking the job. If gentle as the credentials to do the job then let's get him ASAP as he as a lot of work to do. I just hope simms don't make any mistakes

oh dear you are light on rugby issues. i must take a look at your past posts and see who you criticise - presumably they are all 'banging your missus'
if you think simms has managed the process well then please explain how so.

| I personally don't believe anything till I see it announced but someone I know who is usually right with stuff related to our club reckons Gentle is favorite now and if we don't get him it will be Millward.

If that's true please let it be Gentle as Millward would be out of the frying pan into the fire.
I hope they have the appointment set up soon as I have my 5 year season ticket offer to send off and should it be Millward I won't be sending it as I can see no good coming from it and do it on a year by year basis.

| I honestly cant believe some of the crap that has beem written over the past few pages and how is it Simms is still getting a load of flack, particulary over Wrigley.
The guy has gone down under to sound out whoever is interested and look at people that perhaps not be. He has had 'TALKS' with Wrigley, not an interview and Wrigley has said he's not interested. How is that then Simms fault because someone is not interested in a job? I personally dont blame Wrigley for stayig on. He is going to learn a bucket load off Maguire when he gets there i suspect
I bet he became aware of us wanting to look at him, has spoke to Maguire who has said go if you want but i would like you to stay and he has made that decision then. Again, nothing Simms can do about that.
I honestly dont get all this hatred towards the guy. He is in a job which even JW has said he does a good job at. Yet for some on here who dont actually see what Simms does day to day slate him off.
Am i bad at my job because you dont get to see what i do day to day?
Millward is probably quite interested and i think he has done a damn good job at Leigh to put that team together. was it 2 years ago when they should have been relegated? he has transformed them and done it using local lads. Yes he didn't set the world alight at Wigan but that's a different story. He did well at St. Helens and done well in his 2 stints at Leigh. I wouldnt have millward as my number one choice until we have seen who is interested from Aus but i'm not too sure Gentle is the right guy either.
But as a club can we be that choosy? we are limited in a lot of areas at the moment and until the club turns round it fortunes a bit more we are never going to get the big names and have to hope that we get someone who can get the best out of a squad.

[ if a coach wants to check out a few points it will be done in a phone call by the agent, not talks
I'll take that as a yes then.
Did she say he was better than you?

| OK CBJames name one decision that that you can prove that Simms 100% has taken that has weakened Salford as a club given the way our club is with limited resources, limited revenue, and all the rest that comes with Salford and being a smaller club in the big league.
