| smith on his day is a class player my issue with him is yes he is playing behind a poor pack but i do not think he is consistent enough at times but still offers something.
if you think back to when holdsworth joined us he played a handful of games and played really well then got injured an the club thought we had a master in are mists and offered him a nice bumper contract. i think he was just lucky to look so good on those days told his pal pattern you can get a good wage here an got him on board.A full season he did nothing and still appears to not offer much other than the same old he does each game , kicking game is poor an even to fail to kick a ball in touch is poor.
do not quote me on this but was he not like 4th or 6th choice half back at his old club with younger players getting more game time than him

| I think you lot are being a bit harsh on your lads after last night, in all fairness it was a lottery and fortunately for us we held the ball a bit better. criticise them after they have played in decent conditions, not after that debacle last night. Imo smith needs to be at hooker to keep him busy
Tidy ground but as an old fart , I prefer the Willows for the craic and the snap

| I don't think you can drop DJ after one game, nor to be fair anyone as it was never going to be a true reflection of anyones talent in those conditions.
What did impress me was how vocal Moon was when the players were in a huddle, seemed to me he did all the talking.

Being harsh is what Salford fans do best
No point reading too much into the game as I'm sure neither side wanted to play old-fashioned RL. Cas made better yards especially around the ruck and it's reflected in the scoreline. Holdsworth had a stinker, but it's early days and imo judgement shouldn't be too harsh until half a dozen games in or so. Feka was our best player by miles and his hard work is really going to bare fruit in better conditions. The whole team looked nervous and pressured, and didn't really settle at all to the conditions. There seemed to be a lack of cohesion in attack and it seemed dis-jointed, perhaps due to DJ not having his best game. Patten looked promising coming into attack too.
Best to strike this one off and have a look at them in better conditions.

| Yes Holdsworth had a mare, but he's still our most dangerous attacking weapon. Just look at the number of assists he got last year he was second in the whole of SL, so not that bad after all.
Your halfbacks cannot play behind a beaten pack it's as simple as that, if we had the forwards to lay the platform the halfbacks would have more field position, more time and more space to do what they do best. As for the kicking game, again it's down to the forwards not laying the platform. Only making 20 meters on a set then not protecting the halfback who's putting the kick in meaning a rushed kick under pressure that the opposition catch on the full and return with interest. For me it's all down to the forwards why we won't be competing for anything this season.
Big well done to Feka though, the only one who got over the advantage line apart from Broughton and Williams who to me looked as though they were making more meters forward out of our 20. Worrying when you wingers have 3/4 of the carries in a set of 6 that you need the forwards to come back in, do the tough stuff and get us some territory.

| Our 2 wingers had no choice but to come in and take the ball up otherwise they'd have frozen to death out on the wings. We have a weak pack yet arguably the best 2 wingers in SL. Yet we failed to get the ball out wide throughout the game. This is The one ace we have. We can't expect to force the ball up the front so play to your strengths.

One of the reasons given for changing to summer rugby was for the improvement in skills by playing on the firmer and drier pitches.I don't think Australians practice their kicking skills with frozen feet and snow on their boots.
While it was the worst game he will play all season it seems not only does DJ do very well with his assists but
the statistics I read in the programme have DJ averaging 24 tackles per game while Rangi Chase only managed 9
tackles per game.
Rangi Chase receives international honours while DJ gets the excellent support of the Salford fans for his all-round team ethic.Brilliant !
One poor game and drop him.Only at Salford.

| I thought we improved in the 2nd half when we tried to pass the ball out wide rather than trying to out muscle a bigger pack. My only worry is the points we are going to miss out on because of failed conversions - many game is won and lost because of this and DJ IMO isnt good enough. We had 4 or 5 good chances to score on Saturday night which admittedly we fluffed but on a different day with better conditions then i think we are racking up 20-30 points in a game like this.....im not worried - im strangely hopeful. Anyone else filled with blind optimism??!!

| I would prefer to have DJ in the centres and try Moon out at stand off.The Gleeson and Williams combo is being exploited by the opposition for the lack of defencive qualities. Moon seems to be more creative.Has he played stand off before ?

He has and it wouldn't surprise me if this was tried out at some stage during the season.

Maybe on Friday, with Godwin most probably out with injury, maybe Smith in at 9, with Moon and Holdsworth at halfback?
Or will he start with Howarth and swap him and Anderson at 9 (I hope not as Vinnie isn't in anyway shape or form a hooker)
