Apologies for trying to look at all sides of the argument. Im off to do my lines and will return to the forums with your suggested mantra! I lost my focus temporarily and dont know what came over me!

| Quote: Diavolo Rosso "In the seventeen and half years I have been a Salford fan, it’s not possible to say we have progressed as a Club. During that time we have not seriously competed for the Division One / Super League on a single occasion, in fact we have only made the Play-Offs once (and were soundly beaten in the first round). We haven’t appeared in a Challenge Cup Final, yet Sheffield, London, Catalans and Huddersfield all have, despite them being smaller or comparably sized clubs to our own.
We have been relegated twice, and become the proud holder of the most unwanted record in the League (largest defeat). Our Super League win percentage (up to and including 2010) is 30%. In the Super League era, we have seen our team concede over 50 points on 32 occasions.
We have struggled to bring through good young local talent. Players such as McAvoy, Southern, Adamson, Littler, Coley, Platt, Alker and Ratchford have all built careers, but we have missed out on three of the best Salfordian RL players in history during that time (Betts, Morley and Hansen).
Our attendances haven’t improved and we still rely on a small hardcore to follow the Club through thick and thin. In 2000 our average attendance was 4,452, last year it was 4,166. We haven’t mounted a single intelligent, sustained (longer half a season) marketing campaign to attract new fans in the entire time I have been watching.
There have been many, many examples of poor management and leadership at the Club. The current Alker saga is just the latest in a long line of dramas, cock-ups and broken promises. We couldn’t manage to organise a testimonial game for one of our most loyal recent players (Paul Highton). We’ve not been represented at important events (Super League season launches, local festivals). There was the balls up and subsequent change in the Season Ticket offer a few seasons ago. We’ve had employees threatening the fans (Lowes) and threatening to sue critics (McRae). There was Jacksonvillegate and the captaincy u-turn. Each year there seems to be some issue around merchandise (late, poor quality). We have had to be bailed out by the Council. These are only recent examples that spring to mind
couldnt have put it better myself, at the end of the day we are small club who thinks were a big club, until we change our mindset and start acting like a big club we will never be, it hurts me to see the way our club is run and wish "we, us fans" could do something about it(anyone got a couple of quid to buy the club?)
all we can do is support the club in the meantime but some decisions they make is laughable sometimes, well most of the time !!!!!

| Great post DR, some real good points there.
It seems to me at present the football side of our organisation is in a real mess at present so who is to blame? How high up the chain do you cut, we at salford run on a tight budget and our bean counters do a marvelous job balancing our finances, we are expanding our development into new areas of the field so that's a good thing
The director of football must be the man who carrys the can regarding the football department The CE looks down apon high at the whole organisations.
I'm not saying ss must go, he has signed some quality but he has signed some errors, we will never know how good of a director of football he is till we get something to compare him too.

brightly played the lads that night

| Good post by The Butcher. As a die hard fan myself for over 50 years I am finding it harder and harder to motivate myself to go to the games. I actually had more motivation when we were in the championship league.
While we may never be the best in super league I look at clubs like Castleford for instance who have come on in leaps and bounds over the last couple of season whereas we just havent changed at all. We may be a professional rugby club but I feel we are still being run as an amateur club. I cannot imagine he likes of Wigan, St Helens etc letting all what is going on behind the scenes at our club carry on without dealing with it quickly and finally.
I am not asking for miracles just a well run club with strong leadership so that people will know and understand that this sort of lack of professionalism will not be tolerated both from players coaches and office staff.

Dont forget for some people on here
6. Everything at the club is rosy and, most importantly,
7. Thou shalt not even have the nerve to even think about criticising someone or something at the club or raising valid points about the running of the club. It doesn't matter how articulate and constructive it is (see original post) or how many people agree with this very same opinion.
As plenty of others have said, when it comes to the stage that seasoned Salford goers are seriously considering not going any more (and a fair few I know of have already stopped going) then there has to be something wrong and it addressed. The ever-present faithful is dwindling week by week as I see it.

| Has anyone read the franchise summary? WILL have avg crowds of 8,500 going to 12,000 - WILL be one of the top teams in super league within 3 years etc etc. All this from a man managing a mad house. Perhaps Salford have started to look so far into the future that they cannot see what is happening in front of them.

6. Everything at the club is rosy and, most importantly,
Clearly everything isn't rosy due to several things that have happened within the club,to some people trivial things have been leaked to the media by possible participants who are looking to score quick points to serve their own ends.
7. Thou shalt not even have the nerve to even think about criticising someone or something at the club or raising valid points about the running of the club. It doesn't matter how articulate and constructive it is (see original post) or how many people agree with this very same opinion.
I don't have any problem with the club or people within the club being criticized just as long as it fair criticism and is done the right way and some of the criticism has been way over the top especially when dealing with peoples health matters and other points.
Some of the critics have little or no idea of how to handle disciplinary/sickness matters in the current climate with regards employment law etc and have little or no regard over the feelings of the people being criticized or their families.
It amazes me to hear people who are supporters of the club who are continually running the club down for all to see when fans at other clubs(Wakefield for one) stand by their team through thick and thin.
As plenty of others have said, when it comes to the stage that seasoned Salford goers are seriously considering not going any more (and a fair few I know of have already stopped going) then there has to be something wrong and it addressed. The ever-present faithful is dwindling week by week as I see it.
Saturdays crowd will be poor due to the Utd-City semi-final and it would be sad if lot's of fans desert the club now, but how would those fans feel if John Wilkinson,Howard Clague and Ian Watson decided that they had had enough and walked away.
My family will be there on Saturday and I know which other fans will also be in attendance.
And DRs post was an excellently put one which nobody will complain about with constructive not destructive points.

| I've read post after post, paragraph after paragraph and point after point over the past few weeks on this forum. Everyone is finger pointing, analysing, over analysing where the club is failing to improve and my conclusion to the problem is very simple . . the club is underfunded to compete with the majority of SL clubs. All the talk about the wrong choice of coaches, when Salford had money and last won the league in 1976 Donald Duck could have coached that team to win the championship! Why did McRae win the Championship with Salford in 2008? He wasn't neccessarily the best coach he simply had the best squad of players in that league.
I've read the comparisons with Castleford but they have bigger gates than us and spend more on their playing squad. As for our squad I don't think the club has spent as much as some of the fans think compared to last year.
What this club lacks more than anything is new money from new investers. Our only hope for the future is if a wealthy knight in shining armour rides into the boardroom when were at Barton. Let's not forget this club has lived beyond it's means for many years because a few board members have bank rolled it. However, my guess is this charity hasn't been as forthcoming in the economic climate of the past three years.

Here's the crux - even in it's most eloquent and well constructed form, all I'm still reading is a list of problems and assumed scapegoats.
The only 'solutions' offered are that 'we need to fix the problems'... Bravo.
Sack the Directors.
Sack the Coaches.
Sack the Marketing Dept.
Sack the Conditioners.
Then?

| I'm trying to put all off field issues out of my mind. I'll never know what's going on and it's a waste of time trying to.
I am grateful we are a superleague club when so many others have fallen by the wayside, I am grateful that every so often we realise our potential, play some great rugby and have a win to savour.
I am grateful to watch my rugby at the Willows, surrounded by knowledgeble and loyal fans who LOVE this club.
I am going on Saturday still believing we can beat Bradford and I can return home happy.
If things go tits up....................well there's always next week!

Without meaning to cause offense to any of the critical contributors, that's precisely what I was thinking.

| Best post on these forums I've ever seen without a shadow of a doubt Mike, my feelings exactly and one of the reasons why I have become so fed up, nothing ever changes. The club needs a huge clear out especially of the people who run it I could go on forever of the shoddy experiences that I and others have had from certain departments and obviously some of the issues that Mike mentioned that stick out in the past the problem is finding people to come on board and be committed to turning this club around as we move into the new stadium and a new era because its no good moving to Barton and still having the same issues because the crowds will never rise, we have the players in place well a core we can build around to take us forward on the field but with the same old problems it will affect the team and people will not want to sign for a farce.
