The Sia try again at the ground I thought wow, we where lucky, but on the TV screen you can see Sia's hand on the ball and the ball hits the deck.
'"
That's what I thought. I thought we were lucky at the ground but seeing the replay they were fair calls. Salford played well though but they have done a few times at our place without any success. We are not an easy place to come to and win.

I always find that's the way thought, ie at the ground I thought Perry was useless, but on the replay whilst not blistering he did have some good touches and was about the only Saints player to be able to release the ball in the tackle.'"
with two high tackles going on simultaniously should have been a penalty not 4th or 5th tackle.
Meli try on around 60 minutes shouldn't have been given as Gaskel had one foot behind and one in front of Lomax when he kicked it. Offside penalty, it wasn't conclusive and on another day wouldn't have been given. I also thought smith didn't look at it too long compared to last season, has there been a directive on how long a video ref can look at something?
Also Wilkin played the ball incorrectly which although didn't lead directly to a try it led to the goal line drop out which the saints scored from. I think that could have been the Meli try but unsure.
Two or three dubious decissions which another day could have gone another way especially at the time could have had a different ending to the match.

| Whilst I agree there were some questionable decisions, Salford just seemed to run out of steam. A couple of really promising positions were wasted because of tired attempts at taking a pass. Maybe if the decisions had gone your way you might have found that extra bit in your tank, who knows?
Your team does seem to have some talent, and something to build on. I'm looking forward to coming to your new ground.

| The only inconclusive decision was the Sia Soliola one, that's why it was given as a benefit of the doubt.
Salford did very well in slowing down the saints play the balls and in offence had a very good off loading game in the first half.
But once Saints got in there stride after 50 mins, Salford looked stretched in defence with or without help from the officials. Veivers and Long would have known that Saints would be stronger in the second half, it's just that the Salford players couldn,t or wasn,t allowed to play with the same plan in both halfs.
I like the way Long is influencing Salfords style of play, hopefully this will mean having a better season than last, potentially getting into the top 8.

I can pretty much agree with all that, I said offside for the lomax chip looking at it. I was a little surprised they did not check from the other side as from gaskells side and from behind it looked like one foot infront one behind, so thought they would check another angle to see if it looked different , when they did not I thought well they have made up their mind as offside.
I would not say dixon was high as it was over the shoulder with hand on chest, but Lance gave his face a right arm full. Defo a penatly.

| Soliola`s try should have been chalked off. Sure he grounded it BUT was held still over the line and in effect was a double movement.

| Ian Smith did have a shocker. The Soliola try was 50/50, i personally thought it should have been disallowed, but Saints fans will say it's a try. Depends on who your supporting as to whether that should have been given.
The Meli try wa sno try and when an officalgets to look at it in slow-mo replay and still gets it wrong, questions have to be asked over is ability to do the job.
Also throw in Gibsons no try. It wasn't a try but it should hwas a blatent penatly. Not good enough.
Silverwood wa spoor as well. Made a a penalty up at a crucial point in the game (the 2-1 steal when Wilkin just lost the ball). He did seem to only give you giys a penalty when it was a dead cert or 30 seconds lleft of the half.
Was extremely poor and you guys were hard done by. Not saying Saints wouldn't have won, but everyone wants a fair crack and consistrency.

It's only a double movement if the ball carrying arm touches the ground, which it didn't.

On Super League extra on the red button, they put a line across the field and Gaskell is just onside literally, so nothing wrong with Meli's try.

Forget your lines across pitch, Roby's knob ender and Wilkins knock on! They were all second half! My problem is that soliola did not score! Whats benefit of the doubt all about? You either put the bloody thing on the ground and we can all see it or you don't! Add to that Gibson had 2 blokes hanging off his neck when he was nailed on to score and that's 16 zip at half time and a completely different game!
Might not have won but throw in the 3 second half incidents and that's 5 massive game breakers all gone to Saints!
When that ever happens to Salford I will celebrate more than a win cos that will mean we are a big club!

| All this debate about penalties and Saints would win majority happened in a few minutes when the scores were close and Saints were beginningll head of steam. The Wilkin strip which never was they scored from the penalty that was awarded. Instead the correct decission would have been a scrum to Salford on or around the 40 metre mark. May not make a diference to the game but it would have had an overall effect on the game at that period.

| You can argue 'till the cows come home, and everyone will have their own interpretation. To be fair, if the decisions had been reversed this thread would be on the Saints forum. For what it's worth, I don't think the decisions had a bearing on the result, probably the overall score, but not the result. Saints were simply better by a mile than us in the second half. Salford did not allow Saints to be dominant in the first half but couldn't make the points gap any bigger. Saints did exactly the same to us in the second half but could capitalise on it.
I think that the biggest difference on the night between the two sides was depth of squad and Saints vast experience. There is certainly not a gulf between the sides as has been the case over the last few years or so, and that's something for Salford fans to take heart from.

| we have been on sky against Saints 3 times and 3 times he has given them benifit of a doubt against us.Cant fault with how we played but like always we take a lead then when the team get 10 points ahead we seem to put our heads down and the opposition score twice as more. Once we get a full team and have no injurys i think we will do ok in the super league. I have faith in Vivas and Long

Spot on.
But some of the attacking play I've seen from Salford both against Cas and against us has been outstanding and should give Salford fans a real boost. Vievers just needs to do his defensive job really in order that the team don't go leaking away all the good work they do in attack. I think recruiting Sean Long as your attacking coach could be a stroke of genius.
