| Quote: Hillbilly_Red "To be honest, I could not blame him.
We cheered him but I'm still awaiting his name ina chant. An Aussie will never have this back there. Why not try?'"
Sung on Saturday:
"Dan Holdsworth,
Whoah-oah.
Dan Holdsworth,
Whoah-oah.
He's from Aust-ra-lia
He's better than My-ler"
repeat.
And it did get fairly well picked up.

neil72 The club made Richie Myler an offer that we are informed was actually more than Warrington offered him and he turned us down.
The club are trying to get Daniel Holdsworth to stay with us and will presumably be offering him a good deal but he could turn us down also, I hope he stays.
It's funny though that when the club announced the signing of Daniel some on this forum queried the wisdom of it, it's a funny world.

| I'd be more worried if a Leeds, Wigan, Saints or Warrington were interested. Cas are not considered challengers or a rich club and wouldn't say Hull KR are that big a deal, who are also in lots of debt.

| The Daniel Holdsworth deal was always going to be a cagey one... and a clever one by his agent. He was struggling in Australia to get a starting spot despite his talents... so his agent got him to The Willows on a one-year deal. Very clever stuff... we were searching a replacement for Myler in somebody that would give us an edge... and Holdsworth needed a shop window to display his talents. You only have to look at his frustrations when there isn't a performance from the team as he has no way to shine. His statement regarding the fact he is enjoying his stay in England and is keeping his options open... discussing things with his agent should speak volumes... This coming after our best performance of the season when people would have noticed him.
As a club we have been utilised / used by his agent to get bigger and better things for his client. Other clubs are now supposedly sniffing around.... and a couple of them no doubt are just being used to up the stakes.
Still.... if it get Salford a good player for a year and a few good performances... is it such a bad thing ? Once upon a time... clubs used to get Aussies in for a few months before they went back home... this isn't much different.

| Unfortunately, I would be very surprised if 5/6 clubs aren't in for Daniel Holdsworth. IMHO, he's as good a HB as I've seen at Salford in the 20 years I've been watching the team he oozes class and ability and should be the type of player we should be breaking the bank (within reason) to keep and lead us into the new stadium. Looking at the squad at the moment IMO the players we should be looking to tie into long term deals are those listed below. If we can't keep hold of players with a shiny new stadium on the horizon then we never will be able to. If we can also keep the likes of Swain, Henry & Cashmere for the next couple of years then I'll be more than happy.
Reg - 26
Adamson - 22
Stef - 21
Jewitt - 23
Gibbo - 23
Boyle - 22
Sidlow - 22
And can we please make more of an effort with getting a new Holdwsorth chant. Something more original than nicking the Vieira/Diego/Nemanja song would be nice . I do recall a rather catchy tune being posted a couple of months back for Reg but obviously 2 verses is too difficult for the plebs in The Shed . We need to keep him on side after the amount of unwarranted the fans dished out to the players at the start of the season. BTW, no disrespect to HKR or Cas but why (with our new stadium on the way) would he want to move to either of them clubs? I know HKR and Cas are more attractive prospects this season but I genuinely feel the next 2/3 years will be the start of a massive new era for our fantastic club.

No, but Cas now have a massive amount of salary-cap space with Sherwin's move to Catalans (apparently on between 100k-150k depending on who you listen to), plus an overseas quota spot.

100-150k? If that's the case then it's no wonder they've got rid.

Worst value-for-money signing ever in my opinion. Consider how much of our cap he has taken for the past two and a half years, so plenty of room to make new signings in the half-back department.

Yeah. Good riddance at that price... He was on the way down when he came over here. But hey, look around Super League and there are a few overpriced Aussies knocking about. Fitzgibbon and O'Meley were dire in their final year in Aus. I'm pretty sure they'll be on a fair sized wage at Hull though.

Think Fitzgibbon got POTY in his last season at the Roosters.
Whatever we are paying Fitz and O Meley they are worth every penny, been fantastic for Hull this season.
Holdsworth will be a good signing for anyone in SL, looks to me like he has used Salford to get over here and get a deal with a bigger club.
