You'd hope most of us knew slightly more!
I mean the truely educated know we got Hock from Wigan for the price of a packet of Spangles and the Docs award winning 25er conker.

| "Although Parramatta have formally signed the 29-year-old,( Hock ) they are yet to pay Wigan the agreed transfer fee, believed to be around $250,000.Aus"
That's £137,000 to an NRL side ,who didn't pay , then Hock reneged can see us Dr. K paying more , most likely less.

| Quote: dubairl "sorry i got my calculations as i was converting from dollars to dirhams and then pounds with out thinking properly.
it was well known that we was getting 500k for both mossop and hock.
it was also well known that we would loan him out again as wigan were happy to keep his registration unless an appropriate fee was bid. He was an international and one of the best game breakers in super league.
i never claim to be in the know far from it being out here.
No way would wigan have accepted anything less than a 100k for hock.'"
Something being "well known" doesn't mean it's true. It's well known that lemmings throw themselves off cliffs in acts of mass suicide. It isn't true.
Neither you nor I (nor anyone else on this forum, I suspect) know what was paid for Gareth Hock. Your £200,000 (now down to £100,000) is just speculation, and no more valid than me claiming Salford paid £1 for him.

| They sent him away from the club for an entire year (to Widnes). Hardly the act of a company managing a prize asset.
I would imagine the fee would have been nominal. The biggest win for Wigan would have been the freeing up of money from the salary cap (Tomkins was a marquee and I think that meant his wages had some kind of exemption (correct me if I am wrong please)).
I think it is best if the likes of Dubai don't confuse the issue by thinking a rich Aussie club bidding 18 months ago is the same as a Brit club in today's climate.
At least Wigan can say with some confidence that they now have a chance at the fair play award!!

| Some of the figures quoted on here are a joke, it reminds me of the time when many were throwing £250k price tags for Rangi Chase. As discussed before, the sum would have been nomimal and nowhere near the £100k region.

Good john wilky last looked out
on the pitch at salford.
when the snow lay round about
deep and crisp and even
brightly played the lads that night

Exactly. Another randomly generated figure we've seen recently is one from a New Zealand newspaper telling us that Marwan is worth somewhere in the region of £500,000,000. If that's true, then paying £100,000 for Gareth Hock is financially the equivalent of one one of us getting a round in. But not at Wembley, where the prices were extortionate.

I heard that Widnes made a bid of circa £200k but they were outbid by Marwan. As they say "a fool and his money are soon parted".

This is the point most are making. You heard.
You might as well just pick a figure out of thin air. We're all guessing unless we are holding the purse strings at Wigan, Hock himself, or the Dr.

Yep, he's a fool alright. Just like all the other foolish multi-millionaires you encounter on a daily basis.

So Widnes ( With apparantly £200K spare to flash at Wigan for Gaz Hock ) decided instead to buy Liam Carberry, Paul Johnson & Danny Tickle . ..
maybe they spent the 150K they had left on Betts extended contract ??
