The message PV is giving out at the moment seems to me, to say - "If you've come through Salfords ranks you’re obviously not good enough so I’ll pick someone who has come through a better academy system even though they’ve not been performing!!”
And as for Sneyd he’s 22 now so I think he’s past the nurturing stage surely? (Not old I know, but as a pro sports person 22 is the age when players need to start making a name for themselves otherwise they never will or should I say players rarely do as there are exceptions )He played well last week so IMO should keep his place this week, I just don’t think he will. Hope Phil proves me wrong!!!'"
Without being part of the management team we have no idea the real reasons for things. PV might have had an encouraging word with Evalds and offered reassurance. Or maybe he's carrying a little knock and wants to rest him. Or maybe he's not trained to the satisfaction of PV and Longy. At the end of the day we don't know the real reasons, but rest assured, there will be valid reasons.
Sometimes, what can seem like a baffling decision to fans is nothing but the right decision behind the scenes.
Just playing Devil's advocate.

| Evalds is becoming more highly rated for every game he doesn't play.

| Maybe Veivers adopts a fergie-esque approach to talented youngsters...tries to keep them slightly grounded and doesn't overplay them too much too early?
Where's all this Veivers bashing coming from too? Wilky/Tarry/Simms have left so I suppose someone has to be in for it dont they?

| I think McGoldrick will be a good choice at fullback. So far this season he seems to have done the majority of the talking/organising on the pitch, he's also played there for Cas in the past. I'd glady sacrifice a bit of pace in the fullback position for someone who can organise the defence, which is a bit more important in out current state I'd say?
Also where have people got this idea that Mcgoldrick is especially slow? Have you seen him full sprint or even 80%? Or do people presume because carries a bit of muscle and is 30+ that it automatically means he's slow. Even if he isn't a whippet, I'd say speed is about the 3rd or 4th most important quality in a fullback behind safe under a bomb, organising skills, one on one defence etc..

Couldn’t have put it better myself. After two matches hes the new Stuart Littler! I say leave him in the reserves now until the cup matches, same with Theo, there is no rush to have them in the first team. Slowly ease them in and let them learn in time.

Good john wilky last looked out
on the pitch at salford.
when the snow lay round about
deep and crisp and even
brightly played the lads that night
though the frost was cruelllll
when poor swinton scored a try
we had 94urrrrrrrrrr:7891.jpg |

I’m not Veivers bashing at all, I’m simply questioning his choice to play Murphy over Evalds.
Niall was outstanding against Swinton and set up a cracking try with a chip and gather (Granted it was Swinton). He then stepped up against Wigan in the next friendly and defended manfully making some great one on one tackles and looking safe under the bomb. Against Catalan he scored a cracking individual try, then against Leeds he set up one try and scored a length of the field effort.
Murphy has been pretty poor, ok he showed glimpses against Hull KR, his try and last minute tackle were outstanding, but his attempt at catching the bomb, not for the first time was shocking.
I personally think form should dictate if a player gets picked and not age, but hey ho what do I know?

Agree with all this. Murphy has improved to be fair but find it strange how he is ready for superleague every week at the same stage of his career as Evalds, who is apparently not yet ready.
Sneyd would have 30+ games under his belt by now if he was at a different club imo.

I agree wholeheartedly that a player should be selected on form, but Veivers was put into a very difficult situation when the Murphy display was below par v.Wigan
Should he drop/rest the player until he regains his form or should he test his mental strength in 2 away games where our own supporters, once again, predicted a defeat ?
When far more experienced players than Murphy have dropped high balls,at Wembley in Challenge Cup Finals, they have very quickly disappeared from the sport or their form has plummeted completely.
I think Murphy will look at this action by Veivers as helping his career enormously when it could have gone the other way.Murphy himself has shown some courage by wanting to play some testing fixtures - I hope he can show his real quality tomorrow night.
With the try that HullKR had disallowed, and the bounce of the ball for Danny Williams try,I now think the hard work is about to be rewarded.I also remember the Mom leaping for a high ball in the closing moments, last Sunday, and making an error.
I hope he is given his 3rd game on the bounce.

I didn't mean you mate and you make perfectly valid points and are quite correct in saying that form should be paramount in selecting the team. I meant more this effort about Veivers-bashing.
