If we are saying Long does the backs, and you say we need a defence coach, what's Vievers doing, making the tea
for Simms, the chairman's not made of money, you no.'"
Vievers being the head coach i would hope he would be taking a overview of the whole operation, Long is the attacking coach its clear to see but in my opinion our defence is at best poor so in my opinion i do feel we need a specialst defensive coach to make us a stronger unit to beat.
Simms is the admin for the coaching staff and basically signs the players who is available who the coach wants and doesnt have any say in how the players are coached.
With Patten retiring and a few of the older players coming to the end of contracts there may be a bit of money available to strenthern both the playing staff, coaching staff and the administration of the club. cant see a coach costing a lot of money

Our defence is poor, but that doesn't mean you go out and employ a defensive coach. Why not replace the common denominator. Afterall if a coach is evidently failing in his defensive tactics he must go. Defence is most important in a coaches handbook. Papering over the cracks employing a defensive coach simply isn't the answer because your coach is inept in defence.
I originally wanted to serve judgement until end of the season but i can't see any improvements made by PV as of yet. The team is in free fall leaking in soft tries which we've been used to over the years and the attack looks stagnated, whether this is down to the players confidence or change of tactics PV is responsible for both. Longy has proved his worth we didn't see the flowing rugby when PV replaced McRae which proves Long's influence in attack. I feel PV was installed through player power and to steady the ship from the Parish debacle but yet again another appointment from this regime looks set to join the other 14 misjudged appointments.

So you would rather us ditch the current coaching set up and get another one? come on DI we have had enough going on in the last 12 months what is needed is a period of stability not start the salford Circus again.
Give Phil another year to clear the expensive dead wood (mcraes efforts) and continue to mold his team
Personally defensive is all about attitude and too me the players are looking slightly off lots of challenges ahead both on and off the field so hopefully they will continue to be switched on all season and not start going though the motions.
Offseason we get another defensive coach as tecnically we never replaced MP so in reality an extra pair of hands to coach our players to become better both in attack and defence

| Didnt see PV lift the flag as Broughton dived in ................didnt see PV kick on 3rd tackle when pressing near the end ..........didnt see a lot of other things undertaken by the [sizeplayers[/size this afternoon.
Better side defo lost today
If the fans cannot see the huge improvement on the field when compared to the 5 drives and kicks of previous regimes then God help us.
Penalty count again heavily against us - maybe 10-3.

| Could`nt make it today, didnt expect that close a score to be honest so well done. What was Wires team,i`d expect them to rest a few with the trip to Catalan next week in the cup.

Always a ridiculous argument when people say things like this. By your logic you would never change the coach as they are never at fault when we lose. The coach is vicariously liable for the actions of the players if the fans can't see that then God help us. We lost to Warrington's reserve team today - wrap it up however you want. We need to beat Bradford next week or the season is total freefall - last win was on 25th March. I'm happy to give PV until the season to prove why he deserves to keep his job.

| No - what I am saying is that you can see the style of RL being played under PV & SL. It certainly - for me anyway - a refreshing change.
Overall Sidlow had a better game today with some good offloads but Holdsworth very very poor.

I disagree with all this defensive coach malarky it's not Rugby Union you know, the very reason Rugby Union clubs draught in Rugby League defensive coaches is because of our sports reputation of a more robust, astute defensive qualities which obviously improves their game vastly, if PV has to appoint a defensive coach because his own methods are failing him, the team, and the club then i'm afraid he shouldn't be coaching atall. I'd be truelly embarrassed if i had to employ a defensive coach because my own methods were failing.

Jesus there is only four defensive patterns, maybe 5,how hard can it be.We can`t afford this extra coach, next you will want an ice cream seller.

If the above is true why not employ a shrink, then we could get rid of PV and leave Longy to the attack. GENIUS.

i can do the ice cream stuff, but a little tackling and positional sense would be more effective, but at 50 I fear I am too old to give tackling advise.

Avoiding your obvious sarcasm,I agree.
Lost to other clubs with their coaches in position far longer than PV.and lost today to a rich club coached by someone who has coached GB and won silverware at Warrington and Leeds etc.( not for him coaching at a club with little money and a small fanbase;and of those one or two are not very supportive.)
The players seem to have their finger on the self-destruct button.Reports of 'decimation' and 'under-strength'
only seems to apply to the bigger clubs - we were without 3 starters today, and played 10 minutes with 12 men.
The gamebreaker was the spilled ball just before half-time - it lifted them and their subdued crowd.
The fact that once again we finished stronger, and nearly won - away from home - suggests the players are giving their all for the coaching staff.
Haven't the World Champions lost a few games this year ?.......and they have support from supporters.

| Just to bring in a note of realism following yesterday. While it is undoubted that we are generally better to watch than we were under Mcrae, for all this talk of attacking flair we scored 4 tries yesterday, one of which was an interception and two of which came from Wire making a hash of dealing with a kick. We are still lacking a cutting edge offensively.
That said. We effectively lost the game because of two dreadful one on one missed tackles.
