I know from where you are coming but several pub companies operate in the same bullying fashion as supermarkets.
Well you can drink fizz that only is palatable when it is so cold your taste buds are handicapped, or the stuff that allows proper appreciation of a heritage and excellence from craftsmen and women.
Bazens.

(1)Probably due to the fact that some people will pay that price.
(2)The Chairman/Club need to raise money to fund the playing side etc.

I was referring to independent club/pub licensed establishments like the Willows rather than pub chains.

| I'm saying something here which will hopefully stimulate its own separate topic.
There's a virtual dearth of drinking establishments near the new ground. If one does appear in the future, it's most likely to be a 'Brewers Fayre' type, I would suggest. Nothing wrong with these places, they certainly are OK in the right location - half decent grub without ripping you off, sometimes even cask beer, but again, nothing to get excited about!
So, is there anybody out there, group and/or individual, with the energy, expertise, financial backing, etc. to remedy the situation?
I'd back the right venture with finance (not a huge amount though I'm afraid). I'd imagine that only the Peel Green area would be viable, as it's (just about) walkable from there. Any more ideas? We've got around 12 months, remember - let's have some decent, drinkable beers/ciders available....

There has been various chats over the past, what 10 year, regarding a boozer near the ground, we've come up with a few grandiose ideas but it all comes down to finance and none of us involved have anywhere near the backing to make this happen, it's worse now with the economic climate, boozers shutting down at a rate of 5k a week I've read and besides who wants to run a pub in Salford, you'd have to be mad these days. Oh and it'd be dead most of the year and only really match days would make any money.
Now if Sir Joseph Holt (yes I know he’s dead) was interested in opening a pub near the ground that would be most satisfactory!

I'm sure the pub/hotel near Barton Aerodrome on the A57 was up for sale recently? This could be ideally placed for the new development and Port Salford?

| Sometime in the next couple of months, I'm hoping to talk to someone involved in The Star Inn & Bazens Brewery cooperative venture. That should give us some insights. A pipe dream? Probably; but insights nonetheless.
If anyone knows The Star Inn lot or is on the committee, don't be shy in getting in touch!

Think he means The Ellesmere KOTS. Would be an ideal spot for pre/post match boozing. Handy for young offenders at Barton Moss as well
Re: The Star Inn, are we talking the tiny little boozer next to The Horseshoe in Higher Broughton? I lived 50 yards from there until I was 16 but moved out before I got to sample my first (legal) pint!

| Captive audience = easy profit, if enough punters boycott the beer kiosks the club may think again about the price.

I don't agree you have to put it in perspective. A rip off is when a company charges a lot more for the same product or service compared to the competition. (The competition here being beer pricing at other professional sporting events and not cheap selling supermarkets) The higher prices charged at sporting events is for the privilege and convenience of drinking beer in an entertainment enviroment compared to your own home or garden.
Ask me if companies are maximising their profit making opportunities at sporting events and the answer would be yes, but they are a business and they aren't forcing anyone to buy it.
