I'm not in the Theo lover camp but I can't blame the lad. There's been zero progress in the past few years and the whole feel of the club just hasn't felt right. Hopefully this is a huge wake up call and a time to learn from past mistakes. Going forward there has to be much more emphasis on improving recruitment, team spirit, mental attitude, consistency and discipline. The future has to be viewed as a steady building process rather than some quick fix route to success.
Personally I think the biggest mistake Koukash has made since he's been at the club was gambling on a rookie coach. Harris may have been OK tactically/technically but he obviously lacked the necessary management skills and experience to pacify and control certain individuals in a challenging environment. An analogy I would use is it's like a young inexperienced builder trying to construct a luxury house with very expensive materials on no foundations. What's going to happen? It's going to collapse isn't it?

This ties in with one of my fears, if we offer Watson the position of head coach we are making the same type of as appointment as we made when Harris came. I would be much happier bringing in a strong well regarded coach and making Watson his #2 and Sheens overseeing the lot.

Daryl Powell is a great example. Got a shot at the Leeds job too soon and failed miserably. Dusted himself down and learned his trade in the lower league with Featherstone Rovers for a few years. Got the experience and was given a shot at Castleford where he's been a resounding success.

| I'm happy for Theo, I don't agree with the manner in which he went about the whole resignation fiasco, particularly when Paterson, Hansen and Tasi all knew they would be leaving but remained professional. However after 60 games for the club, in which he gave 100% I am willing to forgive.
I'm more p*ssed off at Rangi, who knowing we had just two half-backs at the club, decided to act like a complete b*llend and force the clubs hands to suspend him. All this on the back of one of the worst Salford performances in recent times. Unlike Theo (who was on peanuts) Rangi was by far the highest paid player at the club.

What they're paid is irrelevant. They are two professional sportsmen who shafted the Club at key times. Deliberately and with intent to further their own projects. What they're paid, how long they played for us, doesn't matter. They should have been professional enough to get on with the job. In my eyes, they are both the same in this regard.

Oh come on Butcher - re Theo in particular, the labourer is worthy of his hire!
By your reasoning no employee should ever do anything to protest about their conditions of employment or to try & improve their lot then?
Clearly only a few people know the whole story but it strikes me Theo stuck with the club and did everything asked of him - certainly played through some particularly dark times and as a youngster took a phenomenal amount of responsibility in what was a crap team with crap management throughout the whole organisation while (if rumours are true) being pretty nearly the lowest paid in the squad. Hardly surprising he became unsettled especially when Dobson was brought in on a 4 year deal.

I don't disagree with your assessment, however there are ways and means to go about things and these two players went about them in the wrong way, imo. It's one thing to back the Club into a corner but they carry along with them the people who pay money to watch them and the team. Maybe it's acceptable collateral to the eventual outcome from their perspective, but to the people who are the lifeblood of any sporting Club it should leave a bitter taste. None of this really matters now as SL status has been retained so everyone is feeling a sense of relief, but the actions of these two key players at a key time in the Clubs season could have changed this outcome and people seem to be forgetting this.

This - It tells you so much about the characters of these players and were better off rid.

71248_1418040451.jpg On the 8th day, God created Rugby League
On the 9th day, Satan created Salford.
A battle ensued through to to late on the 12th day.
A few hours later, a truce, and on the final stroke of midnight, Code 13 was created...
Heaven and Hell combined forces and delivered Salford Red Devils...a legacy is born!!!!!:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_71248.jpg |

| There will be many differing opinions about the Theo episode, however, our club has been mismanaged from the core, and none of us will ever know the full extent of wrongdoing across the board...
Remember, it hasn't just been playing staff that have had issues, some employees behind the scenes have also been sh@t on, many loosing their jobs - or had all those people turned their backs on the club???
Theo could've played but he didn't... perhaps, this situation could end up being the massive kick up the backside that the management/owner requires to ensure player/staff welfare/contracts are administered correctly from now on.

If I am paying one player £40k and the other £215k, I would expect a damn site more from the higher paid one. It is also worth remembering that whilst both have shafted the club at key times, but the club have also shafted them.
I'm not disputing Theo could have handled the fall-out better, but I am not going to use it against him in wishing him well. He's better off away from Salford if the truth be known and he couldn't have got himself a better club than Saints. Rangi on the other hand seems destined for Leigh, which speaks volumes.
I just hope this is the end of such fall-outs, as the only people who suffer are the fans. Not just by seeing good players leave the club, but also the difficulty in attracting new ones due to reputational damage. Some tough lessons have been handed out to Koukash and Vickers over the last 18 months, lets see if they've learnt anything.

| I'm with Butcher on this one.
They both acted wrongly, and pay has nothing to do with it.
Indeed I think Theo's agent said that it wasn't about money.
Undoubtedly, though,we will remember Theo with far more affection than Chase, as he's been a massive disappointment. I'll remember THAT pass but that's about it.

| There have been players who have left us who I have looked forward to seeing play us in the next seasons ... simply because they went about it the right way. Ratchford is one example (and Smethurst for those over a certain age). I hope to look upon Fages in some of this regard. He has moved to a different firm to better himself.
I do not want to watch Leigh next year. I do not know what the players going there are thinking but but they are going into a confrontation between the Leigh owner (and management) and RL. They are surely aware of this probability and their roles within it. I wonder if I can support this action.
So I differentiate between the two players.

| No matter what has gone on behind scenes the fact of the matter is Theo walked out on us and his team mates with the most important 7 games of the clubs recent history left. He had the chance to stay and play, he chose not to and for that I can’t forgive him. I’m not bitter about him moving to a better club and improving his career, I don’t blame him for that, in fact I admire that, but there is a right and wrong way to go about things. He could have played the 7 games (depending on selection obviously) and left at the end of the season with everyone’s best wishes.
I don’t understand how our fans can give Myler dogs abuse and then worship the ground Theo walks on. What Theo has done is far far worse than what Myler did and we got a hefty fee for Myler lets not forget that. Theo on the other hand has screwed us over big time, by walking out and leaving himself open for Saints to get him for next to nothing. Very tactful Theo, not. Yes he may have been advised to do this, but he had the choice at the end of the day. The lad has shown his true colours here.
