To be fair, MM. This thread has nothing to do with Rugby, apart from someone throwing Holroyd in. Even that isn't about Rugby.

Fracking involves toxic chemicals being lowered into kilometer-deep holes drilled in the ground to isolate gas and oil from shale. The toxic chemicals can then float into lakes and rivers or contaminate the ground. Also, fracking produces a disproportionate amount of waste, including radioactive water, which then has to be dumped somewhere.
The key to fracking
Uranium is the key element to fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, to use its proper name. In the real-world version of Phineas Fogg’s “Eighty Days Around the World,” burning the ship’s masts and furniture to make steam, governments are now encouraging the oil and gas merchants to blast their way deep into the Earth to squeeze the last ounce of oil and gas from that poor creature. But there will be a terrible revenge. Locked up in the strata into which they pump the pressurized process water, to fracture and thus create the huge surface area sponge which will yield up its cargo of gas and oil, is a monstrous amount of natural uranium and its deadly daughter Radium-226. And vast amounts of the radioactive alpha emitting gas Radon-222, and its own daughters Bismuth 214, Lead-210 and the alpha emitter Polonium-210. Remember Polonium-210? That was the material used when a few millionths of a gram poisoned ex-Russian agent Alexander Litvinenko.

| Amazing what you can find with google then cut & paste isn't it?
The problem with the internet of course is that nobody edits it so any old cobblers can be posted.
The author of the claptrap you've posted (here's the link rlhttps://rt.com/op-edge/fracking-radioactive-uranium-danger-ecology-057/rl) is Christopher Busby who is to say the least controversial, some might say crackpot - indeed even the green movement are embarrassed by the ludicrous nature of many of his claims rlhttps://www.theguardian.com/environment/georgemonbiot/2011/nov/22/christopher-busby-nuclear-green-partyrl
To summarise - don't believe everything you read!

The Fracking debate is on the same lines as the anti-vaccination brigade. Lots and lots of misinformation, ignorance, and people who don't really know what they're talking about.

Never knew Katie Hopkins posted on here, you should be ashamed of yourself.

| I was fairly neutral on the fracking debate, however seeing Michigan Red's stance has put me firmly on the side of the protestors.

| I`m fully supporting the camp at Barton , I`ve been down to the camp 3 times.
Peel have given I Gas permission to look for shale gas on the land they own from Barton to the Wirral. I really don`t want a highly dubious industrial process being carried out in the area where I live.

| I have been down dropping stuff off for the protesters. I`m more than grateful for those camping out down on Barton Moss for doing such an excellent job of peaceful protest despite the best efforts of GMP TAU.

Thats the issue , most people are ignorant.
The process was invented in the 1950's and has been in use in the petro chemical industry since the late 60's.
As Oil & Gas reserves deplete , and the technique of Wireline Drilling has become commonplace the economic benefits of extracting gas from shale & Sandstone has become something that can no longer be ignored.
the technique is also used in mining for mineral extraction and that is where the mix up is occuring in information .
Firstly exploratory drilling needs to take place to see if there are reserves worth exploiting.
No issue with being cautious.but hadn't we better find out if there is actually anything down there before we man the barricades ?
choices have to be made as we cannot continmue to draw on Middle East & Eastern block oil & Gas reserves indefinately without further astronomical hikes in cost

Surely that sentence should be in the malaprop thread.
[sizeFor non-geographers the phrase is artesian wells[/size
