This argument seems to wind-up some Salfordians, but it's there for all to see. Even when we were reasonably successful in the recent past back to the early seventies, we have rarely pulled-in significant numbers compared to per head of the population of Salford. Even a fair few of the hardcore actually reside outside, and are not, from Salford as shown by a previous thread a month or so ago.

The odd big crowd for a Lancs Cup late stage game or a final game at the Willows count for very little.

The seventies attendances averaged around 7000. But that was mostly home support not everyone owned a car back then like today. Salford has the potential to average 8500 gates with the right formula especially with impressive away support from most clubs we've seen recently.

Don't overestimate the away support, a lot of that was just wanting to be at their team's first game in the new stadium.
