| Yes he does, he owes the people who pay his wages. If he doesn't like it he can go somewhere else.
Like any employee you don't abuse those paying you.

as a continual advocate of how much better it would be for players to find another team, have you ever considered taking your own advice? please?

Good john wilky last looked out
on the pitch at salford.
when the snow lay round about
deep and crisp and even
brightly played the lads that night
though the frost was cruelllll

Not true, YOU care about the club as do many others.
2006 was the last time I really enjoyed watching the team. Beating Wigan at home twice in a month and thinking we could get to the Challenge Cup Final.
This season; London and Warrington games at home. Magic weekend; beautiful weather, great atmosphere and superb team performance. Walking out of the Etihad bursting with pride and hugging random Salford fans, wearing the shirt on the walk back into town feeling on top of the world. They are the games I will remember in years to come, not the dross served up last night and in other games this year.
Thats the reason I will be renewing my ticket for next year, with the hope and expectation of many more such days. The sad thing is with all the negativity on here from many posters and the rumours (many of which are without substance) could mean we end up like other once proud clubs such as Rochdale Hornets, Oldham and Swinton. No offence intended to supporters of these clubs, just the reality that they will probably never compete at the standard that they once took for granted.

Most fans know how it is, they arealso realistic to know money is tight.
Patten tells it how it is, interesting that I haven't read that much from him saying how poor he is in defence, how poor his mate's kicking game is. If he told it how it was he wouldn't look for easy excuses, Matty Smith could have been injured.
Patten takes the asy option in blaming others rather than taking a good hard look at himself. He is overpaid and far too quick to blame others.

| This is going to be stating the bleedin' obvious but I'll say it anyway.
Something like a Challenge Cup Final appearance could transform Salford into a club realsing its potential. Huddersfield were Super League bottom feeders for years and then with the right personnel in place managed to reach Wembley and now they are a top(ish) side.
I know its easier said than done, but something like a Wembley visit would pull all the armchair fans out of the woodwork, bring a big payday and hopefully knock on effects of raising home attendances, attracting sponsors etc.
The potential is definitely there at Salford. You might just need someone like Tony Smith for a couple of seasons.
In other news, grass is green.

| Andy Gregory's time as cosh is best I have seen at are club for along time. As for way club is run they don't have a clue marketing is none existent and players that play for us are never commited to playing. The reason is club as no money but it's down to players to perform well on field to make new spectators come to watch us. This will never happen at Salford and this is why we will never improve are gate. I have gone for over 20 years and the club never seemed to have been marketed right and people only come if you play well. Are attack this year as been great but conseding 30 points a game people will never come to watch that. Every year club come out and say we will be in playoffs it's about time this club was honest with fans and it self and say we will never challenge. I won't be wasting any more money to watch us not do or challange for anything. So why should fans be bothered when living costs are going up

Very well put. Nothing is as bad as some people paint it on here, but, unfortunately, this forum is starting to make Joy Division look like Half Man Half Biscuit. Even Bradford fans aren't as negative as some on here, yet they really have got something to complain about.

You've kind of hit upon the circle that needs squaring. You agree that the club hasn't got much money. All bar one of the people on here accept that, but we can disregard him. You also state that people will only watch a winning team. Unfortunately, I agree on that too ('unfortunately', because I think we've seem some really entertaining games this year, but people still aren't coming through the turnstiles, and it appears they want to support success rather than a team. I'm actually not entirely sure that even a successful team will bring people in, but let's assume - and hope - it will). You also state that marketing has been poor. I agree with that too. However, you can't have both marketing and a successful team, because they both cost money and, as we agree, the club hasn't got any. The club has invested heavily (by our standards, that is) in the squad, leaving little left for marketing. There are still things it could do better on the marketing front that don't cost anything - like getting involved in local festivals just to let people know they still exist - but whines about putting signs over the Mancunian Way because they "can't cost an arm and a leg" as one bell end suggested (can't remember who, but I could take a guess) are completely unrealistic. The alternative - to invest heavily in marketing - comes at the expense of a weaker squad, which means you send out glossy leaflets inviting people to come along and watch a team that's getting leathered every week. It's not likely to work, is it?
So, what do you do? How do you square the circle? Invest in the squad and hope people realise through word of mouth, etc., or invest in marketing and hope no-one notices that the team are garbage? The club has gone for the first of these which, for me, is the only thing it could do.
There are a few people on here who keep repeating the same old "Wah! Boo hoo! Something's wrong and someone, somewhere should do something about it." but they don't seem to be able to tell us what the something is that should be done. It's as if, underlying all this, their main complaint is that John Wilkinson isn't wealthier. Maybe they should all go out and buy some welding equipment and make it happen.

Worried here that your retirement has gone to your head, with all this festival talk, I will get a list and send it to the club and suggest a presence either with first team players or U20's a stall and training session and a free draw at each for 10 tickets etc etc

| Two of your young Under 20 lads played for Workington Town today in the biggest game of the season in Championship 1 against Barrow and both were top class. From what I saw I would say the future should be looking pretty rosy at Salford in the not too distant future. Andy Morris and Adam Walne both look like exciting prospects for you and they helped Town to a 48 - 34 win against the league favourites and now Town are league favourites.

Thanks for the update, both Adam & Andy certainly appear to have what it takes to reach the top.
Glad that they performed for Town as they have for our Under 20s.
