It could make a real mess of the pitch.
If i remember rightly blackburn once kick up a fuss at the lsv because the pitch wasnt up to standards ,i think they even threatened to pull out, could be wrong though. Also i'm not sure if Genesis were there at the time.

| It'd be mint to have United reserves on to raise the profile.
So that makes the ratio of those with sense who'd like to see a top sporting side, well-supported locally and known throughout the world at Barton to those who'd like to see a team from a boring sport which tried to kill off rugby league, with little to no support in the area instead at 11 to 1. Comprehensive, really.
I'd love to know what the reasoning behind not wanting a football side there yet welcoming a rugby union side with open arms is.

Personal sporting preference?
What sort of crowds do UTD reserves currently attract?

Depends on the draw of the fixture, can be a few hundred, can be over a thousand. Some games have attracted a few thousand people as well, if it's a big enough occasion. But the games are always broadcast on MUTV and there's full match reports and home venue details on the website. Even ignoring the attendances, the stadium itself will be opened up to a huge audience.

| I'd certainly pop down to a few United reserve games if they were to move in. Sale on the other hand

Well for me I enjoy watching RU and would look to getting a Sale season ticket and watch all year round rugby. I have no interest in football and find the commerciality and especially the wages paid to its players disgusting. There is also the attitude and actions of the fans that puts me off football.

On the premise that the stadium company may only have to open one stand and still get (presumably) the same costs that we pay, I can see the benefit.

| As many of you know I'm not a United fan, far from it, but I think you'd need to blind not to see the potential benefits of have Man Utd, at whatever level, playing at Barton, with their worldwide coverage (via MUTV) it opens up to a huge audience and [ipotential[/i sponsorship opportunities.
I'd suggest that they would get bigger crowds at Barton than they do at Altrincham with Salford being such a Utd hotbed (I know they got 700 for the game against Liverpool back in a mid-week game in December).
I for one never understood why they never played at the Willows, could you imagine a one of united’s big name making an injury comeback in a reserve game (not that that happens much these days, but back in the day) I would imagine a few thousand would have turned up at the Willows and maybe even at Barton.

| Football agent I know bought one of the boxes at the stadium and he has no interest in Rugby League (at the moment !) so had an idea this would happen and it makes sense for all concerned.

Well being local, I would have gone to a fair few matches.

Fair enough, I guess. I just don't understand how an RL fan can find any entertainment in RU. And that's purely on the 'entertainment' value, before you get into the history between the two sports.

A lot of football fans would agree with you on that one and many do a lot of good work in trying to bring the game back to the average working joe. But that doesn't take away from the benefit of opening the stadium and, potentially, Salford City Reds up to a global audience.

Erm...
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... h-are.html
And that excludes some of the filth in the rules about certain sex-acts. Yeah, rugby union types are so much more refined and well behaved than football fans, aren't they?

| I work within spitting distance of Stockport's ground. Stockport County fans working with me state Sale will be in Stockport next season: it was announced by their chairman last night. I have also had this from two Sale fans through links to their board.
Rumour is that Mr Kennedy tried too hard to negotiate a lower tenancy payment but failed as Peel/Salford Council were in a position of strength with Utd and Salford so refused to go to his level. Rumour.

This is where rlfans.com needs a "like" button.
It was also mentioned on Radio Mcr that Cheshire Sport are giving Stockport County a rent free period, so probably linked with this.

I didn't mean those types of antics I meant more fighting and generaly thuggery, there is a poster on here who tries to come across as high and mighty but is a known trouble causer at FC United games, been told from 2 independant people that he does his best to cause trouble and then lets others get the grief. Don't see him doing it at rugby though for some odd reason.
An instance is that you see quite often loads of United fans in Wetherspoons in Eccles chanting all kinds of rank songs but the minute anyone mentions anything back they see it as an oppertunity to become agressive towards the people saying it.
Just find the atmosphere they generate very incendiary and volatile.
