I have the utmost respect for Highto and everything he has done for this club but come on let's get a grip of ourselves.

So we pay off Alker, and then have Mcrae and Millward in charge?

| Scully's autobiography had some good insights on Millward.
IMO he's a charismatic coach who likes the media stuff, and worked well with Saints where he had loads of world class players and gave them the freedom to play without tinkering too much. I don't think he is a tactical genius by any means - look how Wigan floundered when he was in charge, they were very very poor.
Downsides with Millward are he is a bully, he's chummy with the high profile players but bullies younger players and isn't very respectful to people outside the dressing room, those run-ins with him ranting at Warrington and Saints press officers, you would not get a coach like Tony Smith or Shaun McRae doing that. In Scully's book he said that by the time Millward left he had the support of about half the dressing room and the rest were not sorry to see him go. I also remember hearing a few things from an ex Wigan player that he was two faced and generally not liked by the players when he was there.
Yes he had good times at Saints but he's not going to recreate that at Salford, I can only see him being a disaster at Salford.

| Millward would be a massive backward step for us. Coaching a successful team in NL1 should not be our criteria for our next Coach. We need new blood with new ideas.

| Daniel Anderson's free. You could try for him. He's another ex-Saints coach who brought home loads of silverware.
At least we aren't suggesting you take Potter on. We're only recommending our successful coaches to you!
On the subject of Millward. I wouldn't take everything Scully says in his book as gospel. Millward has been gone from Saints for a long time. For example, while Saints' attack was incredible under Millward, our defence was always dire. However, if you watch Leigh now not only can they attack very well but they can also defend very well, which suggests Millward might have adapted his philosophy since his Saints days. I'm sure Millward has changed in other respects also.
He still writes a good column though, just as he did in his Saints days.

Anderson would be a million miles better than Millward. He would do for Salford similar to what Nathan Brown has done for Hudds, they'd be up mixing it with the top teams. Remember when he took over NZ Warriors they were a basketcase and he got them to Grand Finalists within 2 years.
