| Look at his cv.
There is nothing in there to recommend him, apart from the fact he is Australian.
Looks like a journeyman player and a journeyman coach.
Happy to eat my words if anyone knows different.

Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

Unlike any british assistants looking to make a few quid
Why not try someone like him out? If he's really after making himself a name as a coach then he'll want to make a mark on the game. What better way than in a strong SL and turning a team with potential into genuine SL contenders.
I'm sure when Maguire was announced at Wigan, they were all saying Maguire who? Look what he has done. Lets face it there's not much talent to look at in our own country to choose from unless you want the club to go for John Kear, Ian Milward or Nobby.

| You know I can understand the Salford fans wanting atop quality coach but why in rugby do we have this obsession for all things Australian. Is it any wonder we can't compete with them when most teams are coached the Aussie way and most teams bring in Aussies at the expense of good young British talent ( I will give Salford there due there they have recently given chances to a few youngsters).
If your going to take a gamble on a young up and coming coach you might as well give a home grow talent a chance.

Excellent
Most better coaches are (in most sports). reason: they have to work at their game and think more through. Having a suprb talent does not mean you can explain it in a way that all players develop. The exceptions are few and far between.
Wayne Bennett never set the world of RL alive when he played.

| Fair comment.
The point I was making was,if he wasn't an Aussie, there is nothing that would set him apart either as a coach or a player.

| Don’t want to talk football on a rugby league forum, but speaking of top quality coaches look at Sir Alex Ferguson. Didn’t exactly set the world alive as a player in his day. Look at his coaching credentials. Possibly the best and most successful football manager in the world.
My point is that a descent manager doesn’t have to have played the sport at the highest level.

We've had people managing our descent since the late 1970s, don't think we want any more

| Forget his playing career then.
What has he achieved as a coach because he has been around for a while?

| Kurt Wrigley Looks OK to me ,
He doesn't need to have won a Grand Final to know how to coach and has what looks to be a very good grounding of experience with a number of NRL Clubs - Cronulla , St George & now Souths , He played Half -Back - Centre & Wing too.
looking at , Tony Smith , Matthew Elliot , Ian Millward & now Michael Maguire all arrived in Britain from assistant coaching roles to enhance their careers. no reason Why this Guy cannot .

| Lets face it, other than a few stats, we know nothing about him as an assistant coach, let alone a head coach. Also remember that this was from the M.E.N and the club haven't actually made any comment about him.

Totally agree what about Jimmy Lowes, up coming BRITISH and knows the game inside out. Or what about Denis Betts, an ex Salford lad? Could do worse than get Steve McCormack back - he is a 10 years more experienced coach than he was at Salford last time. Or what about Iestyn Harris - could be a potential superstar coach given a good ground and some money to spend.
Whats the worst that could happen? Salford be underachievers, scrapping at the bottom of the table, everyone slagging Simms off. Big deal thats what will happen if you get an Aussie coach anyway and it will be one less thing to whinge about with him being British.
Look at the Premiership.....13 titles to British managers, 6 titles to foreigners. Say no more. British is best.

| Bloody hell !!
Ignore my earlier posts.
If the alternative is Betts,Lowes ,Harris or McCormack then I would prefer an Aussie.
Not really, but we want someone who has proved himself a quality coach.
I am not suggesting
Vievers is the answer, far from it, but why would an unknown, untried Aussie be better
