Quote: Ocker "Let's be perfectly frank about McRae. No one wanted him as the coach when he was appointed. '"
I don't agree I know many Salford fans including myself that were very happy when McRae was brought in. You have to think back to the disappointment of 2007 after making the play-offs the year before. The team was in total freefall and went from a Top 5 finish to relegation in just one season.
I do agree though that a four year contract was excessive and I'm sure a hard lesson has been learned from this.
If i'm being honest though I think it's a deeper problem than just the coach at Salford. It's been a cycle now for years and I put it down to a lack of finances to progress and maintain a serious sustained challenge. What this club needs even more than a new stadium is new investors. I don't mean this as an ungrateful critisism to the existing board because they have kept the club going and been very generous over the years. In my opinion if this club had another 400-500K a year income I think it could really progress and go places.
Rise all ye wealthy proud Salfordians who want to give something back to the local community and put your city higher up on the sporting map!
Just imagine all the free publicity and the tax relief opportunities.
