Quote: theredshed "I find it laughable reading posts like 'Not having the balls' or 'Grow some balls' when you consider that Wilky must have sacked more coaches than any other Chairman in the history of rugby league. It has nothing to do with Balls I'm sure it's more to do with the club being strapped for cash after spending a lot more on player contracts this year.'"

You misunderstand what I meant was to have the balls to confront him rather than just pack him off, maybe if someone goes about it in that manner there is a chance that he'll fall on his sword (or should that be haroon).

Maybe there is something in what you say about Wilky having to sack so many ex coaches - could be that despite his undoubted contribution towards Salford he lacks the skill in picking his head coaches.

My answer wasn't totally in responce to your comment. It's a number of posts about 'Having balls' that I've read over the past few days.

I think the number of ex coaches is more to do with the fact he's been the chairman here since 1982. Coach selection is down to who the club can attract and our past coaches seem to last a similar length of time to coaches at other clubs.

Let's be perfectly frank about McRae. No one wanted him as the coach when he was appointed. He'd been a complete failure at South Sydney where he'd only got the job because his pal was Shane Richardson.

When Holmes a Court and Crowe took over he was moved on.

The decision to award him a 4 and half year contract when we were in a relegation dog-fight with HKR was complete lunacy. You simply do not offer a heads you win tails you win contract when the only measure of success would have been staying in SL. No one at the club as ever justified that crazy decision.

I do not believe that having McRae as the coach did anything to enhance the bid. He'd had a long record of failure since his fleeting success at St Helens.

I don't know what performance measures were written into his contract if any. Clearly whatever they were they were not challenging enough.

I don't agree I know many Salford fans including myself that were very happy when McRae was brought in. You have to think back to the disappointment of 2007 after making the play-offs the year before. The team was in total freefall and went from a Top 5 finish to relegation in just one season.

I do agree though that a four year contract was excessive and I'm sure a hard lesson has been learned from this.

If i'm being honest though I think it's a deeper problem than just the coach at Salford. It's been a cycle now for years and I put it down to a lack of finances to progress and maintain a serious sustained challenge. What this club needs even more than a new stadium is new investors. I don't mean this as an ungrateful critisism to the existing board because they have kept the club going and been very generous over the years. In my opinion if this club had another 400-500K a year income I think it could really progress and go places.

Rise all ye wealthy proud Salfordians who want to give something back to the local community and put your city higher up on the sporting map! icon_razz.gifRAY: Just imagine all the free publicity and the tax relief opportunities.

I stand corrected on the first point. Clearly I don't know every supporter but no one in my little group thought he was a good choice. His record of working with lower teams is dreadful. He simply does not add value. I'm not expecting any coach to turn the current squad or previous squads into a competition winning team but I do expect some semblance of effort and teamwork to be instilled.

The only time in recent years when this has happened is when Karl Harrison was in charge. The team had a work ethic and was achieving more than the some of its parts. I don't know what happened and why the culture was allowed to slide back but it should not have been allowed to happen. If players were at fault it is they who should have had their contracts terminated on disciplinary grounds.

The chairman needs to lead from the front. He needs to come out and make a statement that Salford is not a holiday camp or a retirement home. Poor effort and a poor work ethic will not be tolerated. Performance will monitored and contracts will be terminated on the basis that a player showing such an attitude is not delivering their side of the contract.

Supporters need to be reassured that poor performance from neither the coach nor the players will be tolerated. It will be monitored and action taken if improvements in effort are not made. That could result in termination of the contract of anyone shown to be failing in effort or application.

I watched the Hull v Leeds game. The Hull supporters are constantly lobbying for the removal of Agar. God knows what they would be doing if the had to put up with the kind of effort we are being served up with. At least Hull FC players appear to be playing for their coach. Salford's are clearly not playing for theirs.

i've heard from someone who works at the club which is pretty obvious really........ they can't afford to sack the guy and it looks like there going to let his contract run down. They hoped he would of walked but this guy said he's greedy and will just stay for his money.

nothing we didnt already know

As you all know the next three games are Wakey (a) Wigan (h) and Leeds (a). The way your team are playing by the end of the Leeds game your now oints conceded of 98 could well be over 200.
It seems obvious from his track record that he will not resign. Supporters have more sway than you may think and another verbal kicking on his next two home games could well send him packing.

1 win in the last 8 SL games isn't good enough for any coach.
Only at Salford would not sacking him being an issue.

We won 3 out of the last 12 at the end of last season, the season before we won 2 out of the last 14 games.

I can take getting beat, after all we're used to it. It's the lack of progress shown, the lack of ambition in entertaining us lot who help to pay the wages that rankles. Then when he says he doesn't care what people say about him AND the club then I'm sorry but he opens himself up to everything and anything that people want to throw at him.
