Quote: Ordsall Quays Red "In my opinion Clarke is right in the respect that he was at the very least unsporting. McGuire clearly cheated or if you were being very very lenient he pushed the boundaries of the rules to breaking point.
What was worse in my eyes was McClennan almost unbelievably claiming, with a straight-face as well, that something "untoward" had happend to McGuire in back play and that the RFL should investigate it, insinuating something nefarious from a Wigan player. As people who know me would testify, I hate Wigan with a fiery passion and would love nothing more than for his claim to have been true, but this was a completely out of order attack by a coach trying to cover up his team's "professionalism" in getting a vital win.
Clarke's remark that maybe it's the rugby gods repaying him was rather ridiculous though.'"
McGuire should not have done what he did but I think it was an instinctive reaction by a very tired player at a crucial stage of a crucial match. (And I question if Phil Clarke would also view it this way if he didn't have such an emotional connection to Wigan?)
I agree with your comments about McClennen, who had obviously been misinformed about the incident and it would have been wiser of him not to make accusations live on TV whilst the adrenaline was still flowing immediately after such a tense game.
