| Quote: Adamjk "I think you're being a tad harsh on Wigan. Yes they cheated (don't give me any of that [ic[/irap about spirit of the cap) and probably should have been relegated but they seem to be going the right way about things now. If you look at their team, they've not really got a huge amount of superstars and they seem to be finally finding a mix of youth and quality.
They're hardly doing anything different with their tactics than Leeds have been doing over the last few years and that Huddersfield did last year. Granted their fans can get a bit annoying with their constant harping back to past glories as a reason as to why they should be topping the table or thereabouts regardless of how average they were.
Alibert is pretty useless but he seems like a bit of a homer and often swayed by the crowd. If we make enough noise on Sunday we might see a few more decisions go our way.
Looking forward to it though, hopefully we get in a few more fans after recent results and with it being a Sunday. Just hope it doesn't go the way of the last time we played them when arriving into the game in fairly good form. The CC game last season was a bit of a let down really.'"

| Quote: PHOTO FINISH "**CAUSE FOR CONCERN**
WIGAN TACTICS BLASTED AGAIN
[i
Seasoned Wakefield coach John Kear has become the latest Engage Super League figure to express concerns at Wigan's defensive tactics after the Easter Monday meeting between the two.
Wigan crushed the Wildcats 54-14 at the DW Stadium to secure their ninth win from 10 games this season under their impressive new coach Michael Maguire.
The 36-year-old served his coaching apprenticeship under Melbourne's Craig Bellamy, regarded by many as the best in the world, but some believe that Maguire has picked up more than the habit of winning matches from his former boss.
While Melbourne are recognised as the best side on the planet, their tactics, particularly their ability to wrestle their opponents in the ruck, slowing the game down, are not universally popular, and it seems that the discontent is starting to spread to these shores.
"They choked the life out of us and completely controlled the first half so good on them," said Kear, who had joked prior to the game that he was a fan of professional wrestling brand WWE.
"But, if I want to watch four or five men in a ruck or a maul, I'd rather go to Twickenham. The game is cyclical and we're seeing what the Australian game went through two or three years ago. They went to two referees to sort out the rucks and as a game we need to look at our philosophy.
"It (the atmosphere) was like a cathedral.
"All credit to Wigan because they did control it, but I thought it was like watching paint dry."
As one of the country's most experienced and respected coaches, Kear's words may hold some sway with the Rugby Football League, although they have previously looked into comments made by one of the competition's youngest bosses, Richard Agar, after he also voiced concerns over Wigan's tactics.
"The wrestle is obviously a factor," said Agar, after his Hull side were slayed by Wigan last month.
"We had a couple of referees around at the start of the year looking at how we were going to manage it all and it was certainly a lot quicker than we're seeing.
"Wigan are very good at it but, if this is the way we want our game to go, we might have to be looking to follow the NRL and get two referees in because it's difficult.
"You are finding the home fans booing the away team on anything that's a second over - and it's the same at our place. It seems to be becoming a focus for everybody, fans included.
"We've just got to be careful that we don't drive the fans away I reckon."
Few within the walls of the DW Stadium are unlikely to be bothered by the mounting criticism though, as Wigan's stunning start to the new season shows no signs of slowing down.
Expectancy levels raised when Maguire was appointed at the end of last season, and it appears that the former Canberra back could be the man to deliver the Warriors a first Super League title since 1998.
Friday's win at the home of bitter rivals St Helens only served to underline their credentials and, if Maguire can replicate the success he achieved at Melbourne, reaching four Grand Finals in a row, then his fellow coaches can expect to be left scratching their heads at how to stop his sides for some time to come.
[/i'"
Yet another coach moaning after being blown away by this Wigan team. Wigan are dominant in the tackle due to them being stronger, quicker and fitter and more aggresssive than the opposition, they dont lie on in the tackle more than anyone else

| When a team concentrates all its effort on defense and defensive tactics, as Wigan do, it does tend to make for a boring spectacle and frustrates oppositions because generally Refs are pretty inconsistent around the ruck. Wigan do this very well and I don't begrudge them it. They are not necessarily Bigger, fitter or stronger. They are just well-drilled in a certain style of play which adds seconds to the play-the-ball.

We've scored more points and more tries than anyone else so far, so I wouldn't say we concentrate all our efforts on defence or defensive tactics.

Holding down, crossing, players running into the line of defence constantly, forward passes that are now construed as momentum, buying players out of the game or buying players you cant afford that have kept you in SL. Thats only the tip of the iceberg.
Irrespective of cheating the salary cap other clubs now copy what you do...............you should be ashamed you cheating ba$tards!
Anyway Greg beat you at your own game and I can live with that day forever, all your other acheivements are hollow victories!
Win the GF if you must but I'd put my salary on it that someone in Pieland is pulling the strings at Red hall as usual!
Wigan nearly killed rugby league in the 80's and as much as it hurts to say - "Thank god for sky tv" but thank a higher being for SALFORD RLFC putting an end to it! The games a much better spectacle without Wigan dominating/ruining it, lets hope that never happens again and one day lets hope all other RL clubs are given as much a level playing field!'"

Wigan's is an unpopular style of play because it's effective, successful and difficult to play against.
Their defensive efforts rely on strength, fitness and hard-work from their own players but also wear the opposition out(especially the forwards) hence setting a platform for their backs to score (which they have done, lots?!)
As for boring spectacle, I just don't agree. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching Wigan's performances on SKY this year. I'd much rather watch their style of play than the successful styles that Bradford and then Leeds have had. Plus, it's nice to have two new teams at the top of SL rather than the usual Leeds/Saints two-way race for the title (now THAT was boring?!)
What I do find irratating are Wigan fans who have never heard of Central Park thinking that they're something special, or those who do remember the glory days banging on about them being back where they belong.

| Wigan's style of play is only unpopular with coaches who's teams have been soundly beaten.
Kear last week had 54 put past his lot.
Agar a few weeks back had a pop at Wigan after his crew had let in 48 points.
Never mind them banging on about Wigan's defencive tactics. They are coaches they should employ some defensive tactics of their own instead of getting scores like that put past them.

| Well, here's the good news for all you Salford fans out there, yes all 5 of you! You'll get to see at first hand what exciting, attacking rugby and uncompromising defence looks like on Sunday.
You're in for a real treat. Wigan are playing some fantastic rugby at the moment, there are some very exciting young players - the Tompkins brothers, Mossop and Phelps to look out for, as well as players like O'Loughlin and Richards, Wigan legends at the peak of the powers. What a pity that you can't watch players of this standard every week. Oh well, never mind.

Before jumping the gun, your team DO concentrate their efforts defensively, it's what sets-up the team for attacking plays. You have scored plenty off the back of effective defense. Do you think you would have been in any position to score half the points you have if it wasn't for hard defense with the position, possession and forced errors it brings.
Jesus, a few Pies quick scan a post or someone else's short-sighted reply and blurt out some serious finger-drivel.
Scoring lots of points in RL is usually built on the back of hard defense, with you lot watching them week in and week out I'd have thought it was as obvious to you as it has been to me...
Or maybe not.

Mate, this is what I've been talking about recently. Let me reiterate.
I work in Wigan. My Dad lives in Atherton. I find the folk in Wigan to be a really friendly, easy-going and approachable group. Their fans, in the main, reflect my opinion of most Wiganers. Yet, every so often, some turd pops up on here and prematurely ejaculates over himself whilst typing a series of self-loving semi-truths in order to make himself feel of some importance in the overall scheme of the universe. In the meantime, the rest of us, including your own fans have to read your mindless drivel; all safe in the knowledge that you indeed, are a turd.
Now, for the sake of reasoned debate (And I use the term 'reasoned' loosely on this particular thread.) may I quote a mod on this forum... Contribute something constructive and worthwhile, or pi$$ off!

That just about sums it up nicely.
Wigan have only mesed up once this season I doubt they will fall into the same trap again, especialy after our results against Hull and Huddersfield , so with that in mind I`m predicting a Salford win.
Reds 25 Wigan 22
