Funny how the two most disillusioned fans on here atre 1200 miles away!?
Nice to have an expert opinion from you both gents, hope you enjoyed last night's game.

| As OrdsallRed said, it was an improvement, but we were still pretty poor in some areas of both defense and attack. In the first half we had some decent pressure on the saints line and only threatened anything on one tackle out of about 18 - the rest were predictable drives.
One one hand, 20 at half time was harsh considering the two late tries, but we also have to be realistic and realise that Saints were certainly out of sorts and dropped more ball that I've seen them do for some time. If their handling was up to normal standard, they woudn't have needed two late tries for a 20-0 score.
Positives for me are the youngsters getting more game time and showing more confidence - as someoene else has commented somewhere, I thought Turner looked really good when he was allowed to come in from centre and moved to hooker. Fitzy, who I thing has been awful previously this season was much improved, taking the high ball well on plenty of occasios and chiming into the line well - but I am concerned about his fitness and on one occasion he fell of a tackle because he just looked shattered. Despite the execution going wrong, I see Alker going for touch from a 20m tap as a positive sign that there is a bit of thinking on the pitch.

| Whoever siad 300 Salford fans last night must have been on glue.
There were at best 100, and i actually thought it could have been as low as 30-40
It was certainly on a par with the support seen from the likes of Quins or Huddersfield.

Disgusting attendance from Salford considering there 20mins down the east lancs
Widnes brought more for the friendly we had and i for one thought Salford are very lucky to be in superleague.
Should have been Widnes

I'm new to posting here but have been reading for a while. Do you have some special obsession with Salford or is your life just that empty that you have nothing better to do than go on random message boards?
Anyway, on the subject of this thread, I thought the effort was improved last night but I think we have a fitness problem that is leading to lapses in concentration and defence.

Well that's told us then, I'm sure the SuperLeague panel are really grateful that such an important person as you has expressed their opinion.
I for one thought Rommel had been done for after the July plot in 1944 - appears not - pity!

3596.jpg this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

Disgusting non existant vocal support from the team who were supposed to be at home. The biggest cheers came for the hi-de-hi half-time games!

| The lads last night showed effort thats all i ask of them and i was proud to be a salford fan. Nash imo was poor knocking the ball on a few times and i also thought smith was diabolical his defence was shi!e and when we get a few wingers back i would defo play ratchford instead of smith. Thornely had a good debut and would keep him in the team for the wigan game.
There were around 100-150 salford fans there i thought people saying there were 30-40 are wrong i think i could of named about 50 myslelf. "Thertes only a few but were louder than you"

Am I only the second Salford Reds supporter in Australia..??
If so I could help with any Info you need....: |
|
| your 'expert' opinion against my post was that i live 12000 miles away.
very thoughtful, insightful and constructive criticism that. Just for the record I was probably supporting Salford home and away for years before you were even born.As i said its just my opinion. And that negativity is born out of an ex NRL coach having had 'plenty of time' to whip the team into shape. He had all last year (even then we had a poor away record) plus the off season for signings. He knows the fitness levels needed even took the team to the states(yet everyone is now saying we are not fit enough)
And by 'shape' all i am asking for is a competitive side capable of being within a few points if not winning every week..Yes it takes time but hes had enough and he is not the man for the job..The results are proving that. imho of course

Ken Gill could make the ball talk.: |
|
| I thought it was a massive improvement in terms of attitude and commitment on Friday night.
The negatives were the fact that we lost, bought dummies too easily and were weak in our goal-line defence. I also thought Robbie Paul's defence was a problem and that Jeremy Smith disappeared from the game for long periods. All this when Saint Helens weren't really at their best, losing too much ball especially in the first half. The other big negative was the penalty count. I don't know what we do about this as we're not a dirty team and some of the penalties seemed very unfair to me.
However, the positives were the attitude, effort, determination and team spirit shown. Players chased back to defend (the Alker tackle on Roby being the best example). When we moved the ball about we looked like we could cause them problems. I just wish we could get better field position earlier in the game so we could be more expansive earlier. We do need to be scoring early to build confidence.
We have something to build on - and I hope the improvement continues on Friday at the Willows.

If your read my post there's no criticism in there, so it can't be thoughtful, insightful or constructive.
My point, which I stand by, was that the two people that have complained most about Friday's result are the two that are furthest from Salford and therefore had absolutely no chance of watching the game.
I always find it somewhat frustrating when people who watch games via 'teletext', or listen via radio, comment on how well/badly we played However, when it's people who haven't even clapped eyes on any of our current players I just find it laughable.
How would you feel if Shaun McRae demanded that you were sacked from you job, based upon opinions of others taken from the internet, despite the fact that he'd never seen you at work?
And as for your attempt at belittling me by saying you were probably watching Salford home and away before I was born ... you have no idea how old I am or how long I've been watching Salford ... and the fact you used to watch them years ago just makes you sound like the majority of taxi drivers round here. Either way, it doesn't give you enough knowledge, or any more right, to comment on our curent performance. I suppose if you were watching them so, so, so long ago at least you can use senility as an excuse for your ill-informed opinions.
HTH.
