I may be in the minority here but out of the OOC players it would be Gleeson who I would be trying the hardest to keep hold of. I think attacking wise he is class and creates a lot for his winger. I know defence isn't his strongest point but lets face it, it isn't the rest of the teams strong point either!! It looks inevitiable that Smith will go but I wouldn't go all out to keep him with the youngsters coming through. I'd be more than happy to give Williams a new long term deal but Gleeson is the one for me.

I agree about Gleeson as going forward he looks very dangerous and his offload is very good, though the numpty stood behind me on Friday did nothing but slate him for it even when created tries!!

The club needs to work on defense in general and Gleeson I think would benefit greatly if the club got a defensive coach for next season.

Cant say I blame Smith for moving on. Wigan probably offering far more than we can, and he`s joining a top club with a good chance of winning something.

I was obviously under the false impression that there was a little antagonism between St Helens and Wigan
folk and it was slightly tribal;that was why the Wigan lot gave Sean Long a bit of unnecessary verbal.

I wonder if he is selected for the game at Castleford or the coaching staff prepare for the future as soon as possible.A tricky one,but I have every faith in their decision making.

I think the most worrying thing about this situation is that it illustrates the utter dearth of talent there is rugby league at the moment. Can you imagine the Wigan and Saints battling it out for the signature of a player of Smith's distinctly average calibre 10 or 20 years ago?

Anyway, best of luck to him where ever he goes - he's always put in the effort on the pitch and as supporters we can't ask for any more than that.

I think it's a shame he's going but inevitable at the moment - my biggest concern is whether we can keep Phil Vievers and Sean Long together for a couple of seasons - I'm sure they're a good combination, especially with Alan Hunte bringing the youngsters through and with those foundations in place Salford could have a bright future

So if smith is going to wigan the big question is do we play him for the rest of the season?

Personally id play him untill we mathimatically cant make the playoffs then stick Snyed in, can see the point in playing somebody in such a crutial position who wont be with us next year
