Someday, somewhere, today’s empires are tomorrow’s ashes.: |
|
| Uh oh.
Prepare yourselves for incoming....
Will it be the obsessives of Warrington that spot it first, or the obsessives of Cas?
I think we'll find out soon enough.

You are pretty obsessive yourself you mention my team quite a lot. I only came on here for a read and perhaps a different point of view. Most of it was well structured argument until you came along with your uh oh

I assume this is what your referring to?
I don't get it - how is it the rfls fault the clubs didn't vote it in? We can't have it both ways!

Some will view these remarks as bringing the game into disrepute. Others will welcome someone challenging what they believe to be a fireproof governing body they perceive to be above criticism.
It's starting to become ridiculous with all these fines they have handed out to club owners this year.

| Sometimes you read what the good Doc has said and you wince ever so slightly.
Possibly a little less stirring might stand him in good stead.
If you read what has been said it appears there wasn't a vote taken the other day nether mind it getting rejected.

| Quote: theredshed "The Premier League is an unbelievable financial success, it's grown from a 170 million revenue in 1992 to 3 billion. This would never have been possible without the influx of International superstars. Thank the lord McManus and Co weren’t involved in football or we’d be paying our money to watch the next Russell Beardsmore.
The average spectator doesn’t give two hoots if a player was born in their street or in Timbuktu. All that matters to them is that their team is as strong as possible, entertaining and winning matches.
As for International sport, people don’t care until we lose a test series or get knocked out of a tournament and it’s then quickly forgotten. Give them a choice of their domestic team winning week in week out against occasional International success and I know what they would take.'"
This sort of dumb attitude is half the reason we are terrible at international sport.... It's not a choice between a strong domestic league or a strong international team it's possible to have both (like the Germans) Instead of buying every player in the world who's any good like a 12 year old on fifa why not look at every club bringing player after player through not just a handful every 10 years.

| Judging by the comments on BBC RL xtra , I wouldn't think Marwan will be on the McManus's Christmas Card List.

Excellent point.
And it's not a choice between marquee players or bringing the kids through.
It's possible to have both,as you say

I agree hence why I have said all along that if you sign a marquee player you must then commit too spend the same amount on youth development.

I agree but it's the reality. Results (or disappointment after disappointment) speaks for itself at International level. The problem stems from grass roots level with not enough investment in development or a lack of quality coaching? It's not about developing kids at junior football level it's about one parent or coach getting one over the other at all costs. Ego's I've seen it first hand where you would think some coaches were managing a team in a World Cup final not an under 7's match. I've seen some junior coaches screaming like maniacs at young kids from the touchline when they make a mistake. What do you think this does for their confidence when they're six? Kids aren't encouraged to play silky football they're encouraged to press and kick lumps out of each other.
It's much harder trying to develop kids when they are about 12 or 13, you have to start when they are much younger.
I often think we're a too competitively minded sporting nation for our own good at times.

Strange that a Castleford fan should point out that the putative richest, and best, soccer league in the world will not have too many players appearing in the World Cup Final.Perhaps not all sports people chase the dollar.
The marquee signing is all about improvement.
Many years ago the Australian rugby league side actually lost. So,they sent some people out,as far as America, where they learned about positive/inspirational quotes from Lombardi, diet and nutrition, and,of course, weight training and since then no one else has caught up with the Aussies.
Back to your German example rlThere Is Thisrl
rland thatrl
Meanwhile, back in Blighty the so-called rugby league supporters try and drive someone from the sport who attempts to improve things...

Certainly at 6 or 7 and even up to 10, the kids usually have the coach on the field with them, not screaming or otherwise from the touchline. The only coach I saw at the younger age group who didn't back his kids up on the field was Bobbie Goulding, who felt that his team were good enough to make decisions for themselves. Strange that now, as a Championship coach, he wants to accompany his team on the pitch at the age of 42!
I digress! Part of player development is the improvement of the coaching that goes into it. I've seen some superb coaches who have not moved to the higher level and some lesser coaches who have. Part of the RFL's latest player development proposal includes the development of coaching.
So far as the age of development is concerned, I think there is a great deal of nonsense talked by people who think they can identify future SL players when they are 13 or 14. Adam Swift at St Helens was ignored until he was 18 while 9 of his U16 team mates were picked up by pro clubs. Paul Wellens packed in playing at 14 and didn't start playing again until he was 17. Kris Radlinski was judged by Wigan to be not good enough when he was 16. There is a long list of players who turned out for England as 16 year olds who never pulled on a professional jersey.
I personally believe that we need to invest more in player development because I believe the game in this country will benefit from it. As I have said before, some clubs want somebody else to do the development so that they can pick them up at a later stage. If we all stood back waiting for somebody else to do the development, the game would die.

| Yes you will always get the odd late developer and kids progressing more at different ages. I can only comment on my own experiences watching a lot of junior football but from what you say junior rugby development does seem a lot better.
I also think for future International competitiveness we need to attract a lot more kids to play the sport. This I believe is one factor why the Aussies have a big advantage over us.
Perhaps we need to think outside the box and introduce a new fun touch rugby game for small juniors where we could invest in electronic tag vests that bleep on impact. A bit of a novelty but it could be be very appealing for the kids?

Do I? Wasn't aware of it. I don't think I've ever gone on to the Warrington forum to inform you all that my ignorance means you're all deluded, like one Warringtonian halfwit did on here recently. I think, prior to this thread, I've only mentioned Warrington in the context of this strange obsession some of your followers have with Salford. I've mentioned Warrington in this thread because I used the much rumoured transfer of Daryl Clark to illustrate a point, and I used it because I was replying to a Cas fan and it's an example relevant to his club. Warrington's involvement in it is entirely incidental.
