| Quote: theredshed "What if you love watching rugby and don't particularly like football? . . . It's reasonable value for those people isn't it?'"
Yes, but you can say that about anything. That isn't a comparison at all.
Quote: theredshed "The closest example for me was when somebody mentioned in an earlier post about having to pay £28.50 to watch a Sale Sharks match!'"
Club rugby union matches are over-priced in my opinion. I believe Newcastle's prices are even higher. Salford should always compare favourably against local rugby union teams, which is good. Rugby league is more expensive than county cricket, however.

| What do people see as reasonable competition to compare with? Is it our nearest SL teams, Wigan and Warrington? Is it our nearest summer pro sport, Lancs one day / T20 games? Local PL football teams? Local football league teams? Is it the price of going to the cinema? The Chill Factor? A meal in a restaurant? Spending the night in a pub?
Or is our biggest competition apathy, and the challenge of getting people away from the TV?

We have a catch 22 here where we can't get fans because we don't have a good squad and we can't get a good squad without having the fans paying their money.'"
Yes, that's [ithe[/i point. Would you rather the club admitted it and pleaded for help or did what they have done and wrapped it up in a bamboozling membership scheme? What's your call?
Quote: red13pjb "Perhaps we should all find our best fit solution and pay our money as always.'"
Can't see many doing that to be honest.
Quote: red13pjb "I just spoke to someone who is a season ticket holder at Goodison Park and his season ticket went up by £40 this year. When you're already paying over £500 for it and you don't get any shirt offers or cup games i think we're being a bit petty. Just an observation!!!!!'"
Liverpool and Everton are in a microcosm in the north. I could be wrong now, but I'm sure last season their cheapest admission prices were the highest in the north. Yes, a fair bit more than Manchester United. Of course, demand is high, supply is limited, therefore the old adage applies.

| My United ST went up £19, a quid a game, to £513 at £27 a game, in the old days before the ACTS I also got a third off the ticket price. In fact a few years back Salford were in the semi of what ever the Northern Rail cup was called and United were in the Semi of the league cup, after the discounts it worked out £5 cheaper to take me and the two offspring to United than Salford.
But we do live in a dog eat dog world, Salford need to get fans through the door to be able to bring in better players, but also the type of rugby played as well will either bring in the punters or drive them away. Against Leeds we scored what could be said one of the tries of the season, use that as an advertising push on the fical website to show people how we can play. If we play one up rugby, 5 drives and a kick people will not come.

The point I was making is some people get as much satisfaction from watching a live rugby league match as some people get from watching United at Old Trafford.
If it's several hundred pounds a season cheaper to get the same/similar level of satisfaction then the rugby fan is bound to think he/she is getting good value for money!

Of course. But what about the layman who is more exposed to football, as we all are whether we like it or not; how do they justify £20 to watch a sport that has no public notoriety nor any famous players apart from Robbie Paul? I'm looking at this from the angle that some people do not attend sporting events for the sporting event, if you know what I'm saying.
But I digress...

Your right Chico!
I have no doubt it's much easier said than done but Salford need to really target families that enjoy watching sport in the flesh but can't afford to take the whole family on a regular basis to watch United/City. The difficulty is obviously attracting these people without star players, a top quality winning team, an impressive stadium and a big crowd atmosphere.

The £18 price is once again a joke however if people can pair up on the membership they will only pay £25 each and then save £6 per game so will have made their money back after just 4 games.
For those comapring to football. Blackburn charge £199 for adults and this is for a 19 game season. Bolton charge £249 and £49 for kids, again for 19 games.

| Quote: Chico "I wonder how many season ticket holders wear their shirts? And go to the Magic weekend? (N.B. I got my Magic ticket for £2 — filthy student rates.)'"
I didn't go to the magic weekend last year as it would have cost too much for the whole family to go. Only I would have got the discount and my husband and the two under 5's would've had to pay full price. With this offer that the club is footing the bill for (the RFL are not going to subsidise this are they?) we will probably all go.
And I wore my shirt and a kind Auntie got hers in my lads size so he could have one (too young to have a season ticket last year).
The problem the club have is that there is no way of pleasing everybody all the time. Inevitably there are always times when offers are not going to benefit everyone. The club have been criticised for not doing enough for families and kids. Now it appears they have listened and the single blokes aren't happy. The crux of the matter is that £180 is an excellent price for what you get and I do believe they are making a concerted effort to increase numbers by encouraging family members to come along with the die hards. Only time will tell.

| The main problem with this offer is the fact that the club have called it a family membership. There should be individual prices for adults/kids rather than grouping everyone under the family banner. How many cars do you see driving down Weaste Lane with the 'perfect' family of 2 adults/2 kids all wearing their free away shirt? Not many. Individual pricing for the membership would give people more flexibility. If for example 3 adults who attend games together want to take up this membership they have to take out 2 family memberships at £50 each. Why?

| Quote: Fatboys Limb "The Black Cat seems to have hit the nail on the head - accept that single blokes aged 16-40 are longer the target audience for RL so either pay extra and stop moaning or don't pay extra and choose your games.'"
It is true that they aren't the target audience anymore but they really still should be, they are the core people who are gonna commit to following something through thick and thin. Look at Manchester Storm, they focused solely on the family audience and while experiencing some high crowds at the start once the novelty wore off they went tits up. Obviously do as much as you can to attract families but the hardcore will always fall into that 16-40+ age bracket.

So... Pay the same price as a family membership plus early bird ST, get none of the extra benefits? Hmm, well, it's a start, I guess.
Quote: chrismum "Im not living with GT for all the tea in china!!! you're bob on. That's the main issue people have with this. Although, with needing a kid on the membership, you'd have to find one from somewhere to get on. Looks like you'll have to put your mum on the form as well!

That's actually a really good point.
Iain's £180 season ticket not only gives him entry to all league games, one CC game, the magic Weekend, free entry to various club events and a free away shirt ..... he also gets to bring his missus for the reduced cost of £12! Bargain!!
(sorry to use you as an example Chief )

| I appreciate that year-on-year comparisons may make loyal fans that attend on their own feel hard done to but, even at £180, the season ticket is equivalent to the cost of 10 games.
If you are a die-hard, week-in week-out fan then you're getting 4 matches free plus the Magic Weekend, plus a shirt.
It's not a bad deal at all IMHO and certainly offers good value for money to anyone that attends regularly when compared to 'on the day' prices (which is the whole point of season tickets as far as I'm concerned).

Just passing on the info I got from the club earlier. You don't have to be a family to be a member. You can pay the membership and ST price and get all the benefits even as a single person.
