Ken Gill could make the ball talk.: |
|
| A magnificent performance for me!
I thought we gave it 100% throughout and hung on against a team that was bigger and stronger than us. Their pack was better than ours and made it difficult for us to make yards. They were making ten metres at every play the ball and we were lucky if we were making five as their defensive line was up in our faces so quickly! Mr Bentham appeared to see nothing wrong with this all match - or at least until the 89th minute! We won because of the effort, determination and guts of the team in defence, the flair of our half backs and three-quarters and the ill-discipline of a Hull side that gave away penalties for fun.
All the seventeen can take credit for last night. For what it's worth I thought Daniel Holdsworth was magnificent, all the backs had really good moments and that all the forwards battled superbly all match long, with Lee Jewitt having the best game I've seen him have in a Salford shirt.
One thing's for sure - if we can produce performances like that every week we'll have more supporters coming through the turnstiles and they'll be going home happy. More of the same please - 100% effort and a willingness to move the ball wide. After three and a half years of five drives and a kick it was a joy to watch last night. It made me realise why I go!

| I believe we only have a safety certificate for 9000, that,s why the East stand is closedI fully expected more there last night following our recent performances
I remember in the 1960,s watching us beat Hull 11-10 in front of 9000 at the willows it was a shock result but we went on to have a decade of top class
rugby, who knows is history repeating itself. I hope so

500 last year, I would concede 800 though! Either way the home support has gone down!

| I am so glad that Sean McCrea is at Hull now and no longer with us - 4 wasted years.....
Marvellous performance last night, I feared the worst after the obstruction that wasn't (according to Mr B), we seemed to loose heart & direction. All credit to Vievers and Long for the half time team talk I think.

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Congratulations, finally a piece of positive history for Barton, hope you can build on it, the place will only start to feel like ' home ' when it produces good ' memories ' that belong there and there alone
We need a Challenge Cup win against a SL club like we did against you back in 2001 to give the LSV its 1 st real ' history ' , we were so close last year against the Catalans, hoefully this year we will go a step further
You just need that win against the pies now
All the best

| We get a great win and yet people still find something to moan about
The crowds are up on last year, not enough but yes there is a increase.
A winning team will bring in fans as will the entertaining rugby being played.
4 years of utter $hite have put us back a long way and more than just a move to a new stadium is going to bring fans in.
Just be happy that we are winning and entertaining the rest will come.

| Fantastic result and well done to everyone involved attendances are up on last season and as stated on another thread , I beleive they could improve more if we moved to Sunday afternoon matches. PV promised improvements every week and so far we have , so again a big well done to everyone involved. Onwards and upwards

| This game demonstrated just how far we have come.
We defended at least 3 sets without conceding, we have a game plan in attack, look at the first try!
Some interesting calls from the ref, why was the Gibbo hat trick ruled out, please tell me it wasn't obstruction?
Great night, hopefully this will see some missing fans return.

but what a finish hopefully next week more people will come as we talk about the exciting game we witnessed last night.

| Well done Salford......
Massive improvement i witnessed last night, especially defending our line in the last 10 minutes or so, last year we would of leaked in a lot more points, i thought holdsworth was magnificent and smith was outstanding in the 1st half. Thought young Gareth Owen played well coming on in the second half, as you know i'm not a sean gleeson fan but he flipped a magnificent ball out for Gibson to score in the corner in the first half, don't really want to draw a negative on a great win but i wish we had a pack leader to march us even further up the table.
Well played fella's
If only the off the field management we're putting in as much effort as them 17guy's on the field.
SUNDAYS AFTERNOONS IS A MUST

| Well this Leyther and his son watched a great game from a great view in the west stand. Pity the ref didn't have as good a view as I had of the game as some of his decisions I thought were poor. All you unbelievers that put on here you were going to loose hang your heads in shame and get behind that team now. They didn't give up last night like they did in the last two games of last season that I attended. Hopefull me and Oliver will be watching a few more games from that great view. Even the Hull fans I sopke to didn't really begrudge you that win. Well done the Reds.

| I think it is fairly obvious that this squad of players will go through brick walls and jump through burning hoops for the coaching team and the desire of the players won the game -(as coach and player have since announced.) Bentham was appalling and the performance of Hull was like watching paint dry and will drive supporters away.
I think this performance should answer the nonsense about our players fitness. As at St Helens, when the officials repeatedly get it wrong it saps the energy and focus of the players. This time it happened in the first half after the 'obstruction try'.They still kept going in the second half - got through an immeasurable amount of tackling and finished strongly - no question about fitness !
A lot less negativity on this forum and on facebook may help persuade those in any doubt to attend the games.
A big well done to those people in the West Stand who kept the vocal support going, even when we were behind, and those 'Chorley Panthers' of all ages were magnificent in testing the acoustics of the new stadium.
Superb support - superb players - both deserved the happiness of a home victory,as do the coaching staff.
Proud to be there and have the experience of everything the night offered.
Still room for improvement from the players but their discipline to keep persevering from the non-performance
at the first pre-season game and through games where the decisions by officials are beyond ridiculous they continue to play the game in the right manner and in the right spirit. It seems to me a great squad of players have either been assembled,or moulded by the coaching team.

| Blimey, I have to agree with Dante's Inferno
I commented at the full time hooter that over recent years we would not have been within spitting dsitance going into the final minutes of a game like that. Our goal line defence has improved massively - can it get as good as it did under Harrison in 2006?
Allied with this is a desire to actually play some rugby. We are a long way off being able to beat the likes of Warrington and Wigan, but I think it's a mark of the dire stuff we have been forced to witness over the last 3 or 4 years that the style we are currently adopting is such a breath of fresh air.
Also enjoyed reading some of the arrogant rubbish on the GatesheadHull board. I think my favourite comment was by one loon who suggested we were being forced in to kicking on the third and fourth tackles. I seem to recall we were only doing that as a deliberate attacking ploy to try and catch the visitors out, certainly not through desperation. God, if the way to play the game is five drives and a kick, their lot will be hoping McRae has an influence over their team's playing style...
