AD (or CE) 2000 was the last year of both the 1990's and also the Twentieth Century.

There was never an AD (or CE) 0 so the very first AD/CE Century was AD/CE 1 to AD/CE 100, the second AD/CE 101 to 200, etc.

We know, year zero doesn't exist. It didn't stop everyone celebrating the new millennium a year early though did it?



As far as popular culture/media is concerned when the third digit is on the cusp of change, we move into a new decade. Wrong but we still do it. Check out the amount of 'noughties' retrospectives that were in magazines and newspapers last December.
