| I liken supporting Salford to what it must have been like supporting Man City over the years. Balls up after balls up and a hint of pantomime for years. What changed it for City was simple...Cash and bucketfulls of it. Sadly that is not going to happen for Salford nor i guess any RL club. Our sport is filled with people in it for the love of the game. fans players and chairmen in the majority do it for the love of the game. Todays news is just another touch of madness in the world of Salford RLFC but i will be going to Barton, i will moan about it all, voice an opinion on whats best, slaughter anyone i deem fit for not trying..but in the end i know i will never fall out of love with Salford RLFC...whoever is in charge, whoever is wearing the shirt and whoever is wearing the daft mascots outfit this season, i will be there watching. So Matt has done one..good riddence if he did not want to stay or sorry to see you go if you were led astray after interview. Im too old to over react anymore...Roll on next season

| How do any of you know that he had problems with the board. What if the story that "he has personal problems" is the truth. Unless a board member leeks a story this forum will never know the true facts. Salford are on the verge of a very exciting new era and you should all get your positive heads on. Try and forget last season and the last game at the Willows. We can't let another club in this area slip to the slippery ledge that ourselves and Swinton have been balancing on for too long. I will be there on Jan 8th as a Leyther and hopefully for a few games when I can't go away with Leigh.
I bet yor board of directors puts more money in than they get back so if they make a mistake it's their money they are waisting. Get your heads up Reds and be proud of what you have

| Every employer over sells their company and every potential employee over sells themselves. Whilst you can't polish a turd, you can roll it in glitter. Wilky and Simms may have embellished a little (or a lot) about the club but the can bet your life that Parrish did too. He needed a job. simple. And to him, even we were a plum job.
Whilst i have sympathy for the bloke for his situation he was wrong to come out and make his greivances public. Gripes go upwards not down. All they did was endear him to a section of the crowd who expect champagne rugby on lemonade finances. I reckon he bit off more than he could chew and he very quickly realised it. The best way to direct criticism away from yourself is to criticise others. Parish got his defence in early.
As for the board, i'm sure they acknowledge they made a mistake with Parish and other aspects of running the club, but don't expect them to apologise to us or resign over it. There is a lot of criticism of them and certain individuals but we shouldn't forget, the club still exists thanks to them so they must be doing something right, even if we can't see it. Everyone thinks they can run a club/business better than those that do.

| Nobody comes out of this looking good in my opinion
The Board/JW/SS/DT - they either misled Parish (and I've yet to see any evidence that it was more than the usual overselling of an organisation trying to recruit a new senior member of staff) and/or picked the wrong man (one they couldn't work with) and failed to manage him or the events surrounding the last few months well. All of this is amateurish and the response to the last few crises (since the 2008 relegation) hasn't involved enough introspection or culture change
Parish - clearly didn't do his homework properly or really probe the club members who recruited him. His outburst when he arrived was ill-judged. In my experience there's only one reason to do that - it puts you in a no-lose position. If you're succesful you look even better because you've told everyone how awful it was. If you fail, well success was impossible so not really your fault. I understand this and have known lots of managers/directors/consultants start with a new organisation and point out the exisiting faults for this reason (and maybe to try and shake out some complacency within the existing staff).
But to do that so publicly is unwise and then to not make any serious attempt to try and fix it totally undermines any value in having done it in the first place. It does not display good judgement
The fans - I'm old enough to remember the "Ashcroft out" chants and the ones for all the other coaches since - good, bad and mostly indifferent. We seem to forget that as a group we effectively backed the players when they turned against Harrison by calling for his sacking, which we got. We did the same with Mcrae. For the period of him being in charge the players underperformance was because of Mcrae. When Mcrae said our payers weren't good enough to play champagne rugby we slated him - it's his job to make them good enough we said.
But when Parish (allegedly) mismanages the players and says similar things then he is right to do so and the players need to grow a pair and improve. We can't have it both ways. We now have fans who seem to think that trying to bankrupt the club or get rid of the people who keep the club (just) afloat financially is the way to cure the ills. This is lunacy until there is a viable alternative
It seems to me that we bought too easily into the myth of Matt before we had seen how things were going to turn out. That does us no credit at all

| Just read Pages 1-13 on this thread, some I agree with others I don't. I am a big Swinton fan and I have known years of adversity.
One thing that has kept me going watching the Lions is the knowledge that tomorrow may well be another day.
I am no fan of Mr Wilkinson since he chose the option to bar Swinton from The Rugby League alegedly, however in his defence he seems to have always been supportive of your club.
Maybe he got Mr Parrish's appointment wrong but I am sure he was well advised and did what he thought was the right thing for your club.
For all those people calling for his head, how many of them could buy him out.!!!
Answer probably none.
I think any Rugby Club has to be very lucky in it's appointments and I am sure one day you will get the right man, however now isn't the time to turn on your club, more than ever they need all the supporters backing and knowing the Reds fans that i do I feel sure you will.
As a swinton Fan who has ruffled a few feathers on here( notably Michigan Red) this post has takeb some writing.
Make sure your next coach is the right one.

| I am one of the few on here who knows Parish and i warned everyone when i heard he had signed that he is a disaster waiting to happen, the bloke has done nothing as a coach except make lot's of enemies on the way.
Being a friend of Ricky Stuart is all he has going for him.

Someday, somewhere, today’s empires are tomorrow’s ashes.: |
|
| It seems some calmer heads are starting to make their feelings known and we're moving away from the excitable 'poisoned chalice' and 'laughing stock' types of comment (for a club that’s apparently a ‘laughing stock’, there doesn’t seem to be much laughing about it on the VT).
I agree with what Always Behind The Sticks says in another thread: this says as much about the man himself as it does about the club. Is this ‘poisoned chalice’ job as bad as coaching Crusaders was last season when the club (allegedly) weren’t paying players? Is it as bad as coaching Wakefield would have been at around this time last year when the club were in danger of going under and were offloading players to survive? Is it as bad as coaching Leigh during their season in Super League when the club was disintegrating in front of everyone’s eyes? I doubt the answer to any of these is yes, but Iestyn Harris, John Kear and Darren Abram respectively didn’t walk away (as I recall, Abram wanted to stay but couldn’t agree terms with the club).
Did the club suddenly become more incompetent at exactly the same time as he replaced Phil Veivers? Veivers seemed to be able to cope with the way things are, and had the integrity to stay on when Matt Parrish was appointed.
No. For me, this says a lot about the man himself.
Perhaps the traumas being displayed on this board stem from the fact he became a hero for some when he appeared to confirm what they’d already decided was true: that the club is a basket case. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. None of us can know for sure, but Matt Parrish was a godsend for them. However, John Wilkinson was interviewed on Radio Manchester about Parrish’s first outburst, and said that these apparent problems all required money to fix, and the club doesn’t have any. Nevertheless, Matt Parrish was given a free pass by some people on here to do things that previous coaches were berated for.
And now he’s walked away, showing he doesn’t have whatever it takes to see the job through. Admittedly, it might be tough job, but he’s walked away, confirming what some of the more cautious people on here have been saying for some time. In that respect, he’s no different to Homesick Hudson, except he gets that free pass.

Spot on - If there's 1 post that should remain amoungst nearly 14 pages of half thought thru attacks on the club and utter dribble, its this one - A Fair rounded overview of the situation.
Might I add knowing Matt personaly, that Matt and the board could not agree on the idea's Matt had, or the radical changes he had in mind, changes that the club didnt agree on, nor could possibly back financially.
I cant comment on these as I dont know what these changes were, but could probably guess that they were required changes Matt wanted to implement to see himself succesful.
If you look at it this way: If Michael Meguire had come to Salford instead of going to Wigan, he too would probably have left at the same time if not earlier. Although he was pretty much unheard of and not established, had he wanted to do what he's been able to do at Wigan, then it's obvious he would have been head butting a brick wall.
With that said maybe Matt tried to change to much to quickly, and got fed up. Then came to blow's with those responsible and those who didnt agree, and those who didnt tell him the truth to start with, the board.
So perhaps Matt should have done what (most) people on here seem to think he should of done, which was grind out and build up from bottom and make changes slowly.
