| i would venture to suggest-making quantum leaps and adding 2 + 2 and making 5 that the mention of Wilkie to Oz all points to persuading someone to come here earlier than they want to-ala Gentle who wants to appear at the end of the season(which is dangerous if Vievers does a decent job until then and then gets booted).

I know he was leaving but surely it would have been easier to hire someone for next year as they would know if they were becoming available. It's all a bit too slow. I mean if we've had so many applicants why don't we know about them. We have a right. Vievers will be hired can just see it and alley will probably stay and well go nowhere'"
I assume you are referring to a comment I made a weeks ago. The point I was making was the club will have budgeted for this year. Paying off McRae early and bringing in a replacement coach before the end of the season will undoubtedly cost the club extra. This extra cost is bound to have a negative impact on future spending.
I am sure the plan was for the club to make progress on the field this year and then bring in a new coach around October time. Unfortunately with McRae going early it forces the clubs hand to seek a replacement sooner than they would have hoped. Due to these circumstances I also would like to see a new coach appointed soon but I also appreciate the importance of the club doing their homework and hopefully making the right choice.
Walkdenred with respect, the only way you would have a right to know who the applicants for the coaches job are is if you put your hand in your pocket and joined the board.

Peter Gentle stepped up to the role of NRL Assistant Coach in 2009 after coaching the U20s team in 2008.
He was the NRL Assistant Coach from 2006-2007 and the Balmain Tigers Premier League Coach in 2006.
Peter joined Wests Tigers in 2006 after serving as an NRL Assistant Coach at Cronulla from 2004-2005.
A former half-back, Gentle played for the Western Suburbs Magpies in 1986 and St George Dragons from 1987-1989.
Australia's assistant coach as well.
Another name at least...

| Just a little foot note regarding the previous Head Coach - Shaun McRae has confirmed that it WAS a work related stress illness that forced him to go on sick leave. Well, hope you get better soon and good luck in the future Mr McRae! As for the City Reds - ONWARDS & UPWARDS for us I reckon!!

| We cannot afford to wait until the end of the season for a new coach.Last night yet another spell of conceding 3 or 4 tries in quick succession-hopefully this will also indicate that Vievers won't be considered. We need sorting ASAP.

| Think the only good thinng to come out of yesterdays appauling performance is that Vievers has failed his job interveiw.
Can't see in any way shpe or form see him being at Salford next season and on current showings can't see how he could have a serious chance of getting the job.
The one person who seems to be getting away with things scott free in this situation is the conditioner don't think I've seen an unfitter team in all my years watching Salford. I can't remember his name but I think we need shut and to get someone in who knows what he's doing and does it in a more professional manner

| I'm not sure how your average fan is qualified to judge how fit the team is.
We all know the obvious signs but how does that equate to the effort they have been putting in.
I wasn't at the game but didn't we lose it in the first 15 minutes.
If so,I assume fitness,or lack of it,wasn't the reason we were beaten.
You could be right,I suppose, but I would be staggered if it could be proved that these guys aren't fit.

Unbelievable nonsense. Ask the players before spouting drivel. Feka apart there is only enough fat to fry a handful of chips. Matty Smith has added 5 yards this season and proved it with a wonderful effort to catch Horne after giving him 10 yards start. I think a little less carping would be the order of the day.

IS THAT SO???
Ask the players then what thier individually assesed diets are like and you'll get a quizicle glance. A professional sports club like Salford should have each player assigned a diet and health regime but it doesnt.
When people say a clean slate start it has to include a fitness trainer too.

May I just point out that specialised diets are normally the consideration of a dietician, full of academic credentials and currently in practice. Just one position I would like to see included in the new set up.
However, I don't know if employing a dietician is generally the custom in Super League. I should imagine it is. This is certainly the case in elite British swimming, an organisation I've become associated with of late.
Some digging is required. I'll get back to you all if I find out.

| we might not be able to afford a dietition so it should be down to the players and should not be aimed at the club. Most of these players have been playing long enough now to know what to eat and what not to eat so i dont no how you can use that excuse really. but i would ask the question on fitness and why we never seem to turn up for 80 mins

Do you know what the going rate is for a dietician? Do you know if the club is unable to afford a dietician? Do professional organisations leave something as important as individualised dietary requirements down to the players? At what point did I make any excuses? Does failing to turn up in the first 10 minutes of a game indicate an issue with firness? What do you think the word 'fitness' means?
Not having a go at you. Just seeking clarification of your points.

It's an attempt to highlight to the more simplistically minded contributors of the forum that the club needs to do more than sign a new head coach... A holistic and contemporary mindset is required to significantly improve the fortunes of the club. Would you agree?
