| Date wasn't given for oldham link up but i thought the takeover was going to be complete by Tuesday as it was discussed elsewhere on here last week. Someone gave the reason that the boss of Peel would't be back till Monday. Its all rubbish anyway. Players wages must be due again. I fear if it's not sorted soon then an administrator will be running your club.

Made me laugh regarding the comment Oldham will benefit from Salfords sales and marketing initiatives. Oldham will be showing our club how to run things better.
Oldham fans must be gutted they've got us.

Where Oldham may benefit is if there are some ticket offer for fans of the two clubs. I'd certainly be more likely to use a ticket offer to watch Oldham at Whitebank than Sale at Salford.

Andy Wilson Labelled the Salford - Oldham Link up as significant and good for both clubs.
some of the other 'partnerships ' ( Wolves - Swinton / Saints - Hornets )amount to virtual takeovers.
the Salford - Oldham agreement seems on reflection more symbiotic .
It seems the knee jerk reaction on the Oldham forum has been hugely negative, maybe with rememberance of the Pre superleague moves to force us the merge in the Mid 90's .
a few of the criticisms levelled wereOh so Salford Get the pick of Oldham Area Talent - Oldham based Players have been poached for decades- Harris- Sculthorpe - Sinfield- McDermott. At least this way there may be a route that promotes Oldham based players via their home town club if even for a short period.
Salford are Crap why bother?- Even though we are a 'minnow' SL outfit , there are still lots of players in the championship who came through salfords academy teams , competent Pro Ruby players not SL but available to play NL1 or Championship , there are currently no RL development managers covering the Oldham Area, it may actually raise the profile of the club rather than shadow it .
Because we aren't cash rich there will be less chance of Oldham being pushed into decisions they aren't happy with .
With Reds Academy Players turning out for the Roughyeds, and possibly the Willows Main Stand North/South wings rising Pheonix-like at Whitebank there will be Reds Supporters who may venture down for the odd game , and th probability that the two clubs will encourage this.
in my humble opinion of course!

That seems to suggest Marriott is playing for Oldham next season not up in Cumbria as we first thought. Might be why we let him go if we knew he could get a full season with Oldham and then if needed at any point come back to us.

I totally understand and supoort the opposition to things like this but don't you think this will be another rugby league idea that fizzles out into nothing and the impact on both clubs will be close to minimal, if anything?

| Andy Wilson said in the comments thread underneath the Gleeson article in The Guardian.....
Quote: "re the salford thing, i'm hopeful it's going to be positive - basically the rfl, without whom the salford peel deal wouldn't have happened, have recognised that when you take salf, swinton, oldham and rochdale together (leaving leigh, wigan, widnes, wire, saints as a different group) the current state of play is pretty grim. yet there is still stuff to work with, and reasons why the area is very important to the game - media city the most obvious one of them, but also grand final, magic at etihad, corporate manc, etc. salford have actually done tons of good work along these lines in last few years (in trafford, manc as well as salford) but it's been undermined by on and off field problems at higher levels.
i don't know any details, but i've been told this could be a really exciting new beginning. so fingers crossed. no hint of mergers or anything as far as i know.'"
Not sure i entirely understand it. Interesting that he talks of peel being a done deal. But sounds like it might be more hope than anything concrete

Lee Jewitt - we signed him from Wigan
Paul Highton - we signed him from Halifax
they'd already been to oldham and had their pick
Marc Sneyd - signed onto Salford's Academy at 14 yrs old , his Brother Carl Plays for Rochdale not Oldham ,Gareth Owen sign as a 15 yr old. Is there a system to develop 14-18 yr olds to SL Level in Oldham ?

More to the point,is there any system to develop 14-18yr old in Salford, ther seems to be a serious amount of our own kids not being considered.
