The simple answer to the East stand is getting a sponsor for it, make exclusively for schools, charities and targeted new communities. Get the sponsors to cover the cost of stewarding and I'm sure to the annoyance of some give the kids anything that will make a racket.

The benefits are increased crowds, better atmosphere (given up on the South Stand generating any) and visually a much better experience for the cameras with a full raucous stand right in the main eyeline.

Invite all local schools to get as many kids as possible down and make it buckshee, you'd guess most would be new people so nothing lost on ticket sales.

If done properly would stand the club nothing but getting the idea and invites out there.

Apparently the East has the lowest number of season ticket holders. I'm surprised at this, as I cant understand why anyone would pay for a ST in the South Stand. It must be the worst view in the whole of Super League.

I have had a season ticket for the east stand for the last two seasons. It is a good view, we sit on the back row under the scoreboard, we can stand up or sit down and it's not draughty like the west stand.
Perhaps they should take the seats out make it all standing and close the end stands

Not that it matters shutting the East stand as there was never "that many" people in there to justify it being open, apart from the odd occasion.
Like some one has already said it must be part of the renegotiated contract to save on cost.

It doesn't look good on tv and highlights though showing that stand empty as it's the cameras main view.
The obvious answer is elevatation but could never understand why the camera gantry wasn't on the East stand, so the great view of the West stand was always in shot and at least you could see someone had bothered to turn up and show an interest.

Hence why I say fill it with schools, sports associations and charities and above all give the kids something to make a racket so there is at least the pretence of an atmosphere.

I agree MR that's the logical thing to do to get the interest for the future moving forward, but it all comes at a cost, keeping that stand open costs and the club has got a better deal closing it.
Having all those extra people going for "free" in that stand has no immediate benefit for the club as they wont make on gate receipts or on match day refreshments.
With regards to stand sponsorship, is it the clubs to give that sponsorship away, I'd be inclined to say no it'll be the stadiums.

Agreed, hence why target a business either for the season or per game (or say 1st season target 5 games) and punt it that they can advertise they are helping say underprivileged kids (obviously the club targets Swinton schools for that), or investing in Salfords future.

Split the first team squad and send them into the school's being offered tickets for talks and training.

That's called long term thinking and investing into something that may not pay off for a while. I.e kids growing up and become paying adult supporters.

Don't think the club do that.

Well this may be the final nail in my season ticket. After last year and the free games and the games we missed I can't see the point in buying one. I expect the cost will be considerably more than my East Stand one.

To be honest i would rather see the South Stand shut.

The seats ripped out of the East Stand and put in the South Stand, and the East stand made into standing.

I think this would look better on TV ?????? not that im bothered about Sky, but also it would be a better view for the fans.

I think the only reason the South Stand was taken over/ made as a fan stand was because it was standing, if the East stand was made standing for me it would be better.

The east stand seats will never happen unless by some miracle we become owners in some capacity.
Thevstadium was initially built for SRD as the primary tenants but we know how well that's panned out and we've now become the poor relations to RU.
Speaking with Sale fan I know they all prefer to sit so they can eat their prawn sandwiches in comfort and as they get bigger crowds and attract bigger sponsors the east stand will never change.
Also coupled with the fact on who would pay for it as the SMC certainly won't.

Likewise after the last two seasons and forty plus years my enthusiasm is at an all time low, now we are greeted with the news stands are being shut how inspirational, my daughter who just spent her first season as a season ticket holder is desperate to go again next year, so my decision will be based upon whether he keeps to his word and looks after us season ticket holders this year after dishing out free or £5 games to all and sundry whilst those who pay up front have paid to go.

If not I can pick and choose my games and then abandon them when they give up and abandon us.
