Article on BBC sport website say's Marwan Koukash will decide his future at the end of the year. Personally I'd be surprised if he throws the towel in because I didn't have him down as a quitter. I actually think his decision will be heavily influenced by how the team performs in the middle 8's. The talk of handing over control to the clubs season ticket holders would be a disaster waiting to happen in my opinion. Let's hope the team can put in some top class performances (that they are capable of) that will put some new hope, belief and enthusiasm into the owner for 2017.

| I don't get it. His family only suffered because of him and his naivety in thinking he could break the cap and get away with it. If he had adhered to the rules, he/we would be celebrating our most successful season in 10 years. Instead he's talking about throwing the towel in because of the "stress" etc. It seems odd when things are finally going right on the pitch to consider walking away.

| I doubt he reads this column/forum but ... think of the effect on your players when you speak like this. Many have families and homes. Do you think you'll get the best from them with a possible P45 waiting after the 8's despite they keeping us in Super League? If you walk, who takes over? I'm a season ticket holder and not sure I can run this club. I also note Rochdale has not set the world on fire .
To be honest stress and Salford are the same: 15/06/2007 the only SL game without a try and a dismal season followed by relegation, 2009 Alker fight and we warned to update the stadium or get thrown out of RL, many issues 2010-11 re the stadium and on-field (McCrae's illness), 2013 bankrupt and about to be wound up, etc etc.

| Fan owned clubs ?
Athletic Bilbao
FC Barcelona
Green Bay Packers
South Sydney ( up until Crowe/LaCourt)
AFC Wimbledon - FCUM
Every Bundesliga Premier Club ( 51% by law)Bayern Munich 81% fan owned.
I suppose it's all down to what we are left with to own ..a broken club with CVA from it's previous owner ? or a debt free club with a vibrant infrastructure.
Cellino was also talking about Leeds Utd ' being given back to it's fans '.

| Can't see a fan run Salford at all.
It works elsewhere because of the vast amount of money surrounding those Clubs, in successful vibrant leagues.
Can you see the problem here?

I think it will be down to how many fans bother to come out to watch the team that he's heavily invested in. I don't know the bloke and I don't pretend to, but he seems to be happy that the team are heading in the right direction. He does however, appear to be losing patience with the stay away fans who don't appear to appreciate all the time, money and effort that he's been putting in over the last few years. This is in no way a criticism of the fans on here as I imagine that you all attend regularly but I wouldn't be surprised if he's getting a tad frustrated. Oh and then there's the RFL...
I hope that he sticks around for you. We've got our own drama's over at the Bulls and I wouldn't wish the uncertainty on anybody.

Why would non-season ticket holders spend their hard earned on watching a team that has been continuously in the press for all the wrong reasons since 2014?
Even the biggest positive this club has had in the last ten years (a team that should have finished 6th in Super League) has been overshadowed by the deduction of 6 points for breaking the cap. As if that wasn't bad enough we've had to endure months of Koukash promising fans that we had in fact done nothing wrong, the RFL had a vendetta against us and we would get our points back on appeal. How embarrassing that was when an independent sports tribunal ruled in favour of the RFL.
Then there are the countless issues we've faced with players such as Gareth Hock, Cory Paterson, Rangi Chase, Harrison Hansen, Kevin Locke, Tony Puletua, Theo Fages etc which has seen the clubs name dragged through the mud.
I don't blame the "floating" fans for staying away. Do I expect to see them back for the middle 8's too? No. Why would people spend their money to see us play Championship teams?
I did a quick check on our average attendances prior to the announcement of the 6 point deduction and after it. Prior to the announcement we were averaging 4,451 (this even includes the crowd against Catalan which is usually our lowest of the season) and afterwards 2,937. If that isnt comprehensive proof that the Salford public are p*ssed off and done with the club in 2016 then I don't know what is.
We've finally got things right on the field and I would suggest Marwan spends the majority of the off-season re-engaging with the Salford public (and ensuring we don't break the cap again).

| I suspect the relationship with the stadium management company also has a large baring on his current state of mind. The deal presented at the time of his take-over and the subsequent `improvements' he has managed to thrash out are simply not enough.

| Sounds like a no win situation then.
Marwan wants more fans but fans won't turn up because of Marwan.
Something or someone's got to give?

I don't think it's quite that drastic, had we not been given a 6 point deduction half-way through the season I have absolute confidence that we would have increased (or at the worst maintained) the average crowd figure of 4,450.
Fans wont turn up because of the constant false dawns and let downs. So far under Marwan's ownership it's been a continuous case of one step forward, two steps back.

He also could be playing games with the stadium company to get a reduced rent (If I am not here then Salford won't be here= no rent at all from Salford)

someone pointed out our Home crowds prior to the points deduction were up around the 4K , and have dropped dramatically after .
the Politics ' off the field ' are affecting the fans volition to turn up. Its sucking the enthusiasm & enjoyment of watching the team & the sport .

I disagree because I think he's wise enough to know the numbers will only come with stability, continual progress and the chance of some success. This points deduction has knocked the stuffing out of the regular fans (myself included) so it isn't going to help attracting new support. The RFL may want vengence against our owner but they are destroying 130+ years of RL history in Salford/Manchester in the process.
My view is if he walks now (the RFL have won) the clubs future will be bleak and it would be a real shame considering the progress the team have made on the field this year. My thoughts are if the sport can't survive in one of it's largest cities after a century plus, it's about time the RFL locked the doors and threw away the keys
I do understand our owner has outspoken public views (that I don't agree with) but I hope Nigel Wood is a big enough man (mentally, he obviously is physically) to rise above this for the greater good and sort it out. I think the RFL need to ask themselves the question how they would feel had they put as much money as Marwan Koukash has into the sport. Let's reflect the people at the RFL make a very good living out of the sport (that I'm sure they work hard for) and some people invest millions into it. Who's more disposable?
