| Having read a few posts on the Warriors forum it seems a story has been concocted about our owner’s underlying reasons for taking over the club. I can only assume this is to dissuade a certain player from joining us. Apparently the Doc only took over the club because he wanted to impress Salford City Council and in return get planning consent for a racecourse next to the stadium.
I did find this quite amusing considering our councils biggest puppet master, the mighty Mr Whittaker of Peel Holdings, previously failing in this regard after years of buttering up the town hall hierarchy.

Yes build one between the beer tent and the car park. No seriously there is no land considering Port Salford's future development. The only place is Worsley Park a few miles up the road.

| There is someone interested in developing the land north of the m62 , its not the landowner.

| I think there was talk of the Doc having business partners who develop race courses all over the world and people put 2 & 2 together.
I'd be more than happy for one to be built on the land between Leigh Road and the M62 and I'd be even happier that it would have Karen Garrido spitting chips.

I live in Worsley village and I have to be honest can only think there would be benefits to building a race course on that land, it's farm land at the moment which I'm pretty sure is just used for grazing. Also think the plan includes a slip road direct from the motorway and with the planned station would you'd think bring plenty the the area.
I fully expect though the Karen Garrido brigade to be against it as it spoils there beautiful vista of the stadium and farm

| "just used for grazing"
so what? Over half the world's farming is pastoral farming. It could be making quite a lot of money.
We must realise that many people may not want a race course near their homes.

| I think they class it as the bits between the Gilbert down just past the Barton arms and then just passed the Green.
All I know is it was on all the post when I moved to where I live now.

| NZ Warriors member here greetings Salford Fans.
Bare in mind a couple of things :
The race course rumor comes from a reliable source , a club insider I know in the real world.
Ask yourselves why an Antipodean would have any terms of reference about the geography of Salford , your city planning consents or any other logistical considerations to invent a Rumor about a Race course on the other side of the world none of us here in NZ Warriors land would bother to pluck out of the air and invent a tale about....where's the secoundary gain.
Now I'm not suggesting anyone here is saying they think that is the order of things.
The real question is who told Locke that was an issue an why.
All I can Say is Kevin would be a very good signing for any club , and Kevin is in a position where he is having to explore his options.
If I were the Dr I would put the money up front and make it less of a.....concern for Kevin to get over the line.....rule out the race course rumors

| Mt Smart,
Thanks for your interesting post.
As a follower of Wakefield I would have thought you were fully aware of how long things take in this country with regard to construction of sports stadia and associated facilities.
Unless Kevin Locke has visions of playing into his 50's or 60's this matter, whether or not true, should not be playing any part in his thought process.
Still,as I thought players wanted to win things in their limited playing career the fact that he can consider each and every minor detail does indicate a modicum of intelligence not always afforded to modern sports players by the always critical public.Well done to him,for that.
What is noticeable is your presumptuousness in suggesting how a multi-millionaire should a) do with his money b) conduct himself.
You have my admiration for sheer audacity
I hope when you get up early in August,to watch the Tetleys Challenge Cup Final,it is to watch Salford Red Devils - with or without Kevin Locke in the line-up.

| When the Doc took over the club last year he made a remark about the club needing an additional source of income. There is land around the new stadium to develop but nowhere near enough to build a racecourse. Peel holdings one of the biggest developers in the country have been trying for years to build a racecourse a few miles away but it's been met with a lot of local opposition.
What you also have to understand is the land is owned by Peel and they want to develop a racecourse themselves and won't want to sell the land. Another stumbling block is Peel are a very powerful player and even if the Doc had land to develop they would oppose any planning consent because they monopolise all the major new development in the city. Trust me they would throw every spanner in the wheel they could and it would be a total non starter.
A perfect example of this was when Peel wanted a slice of the new stadium to simply prevent any development by another developer in the area.
