It's that time of year when all the amateur sides will be getting up and running again given we're all playing summer rugby this year. Quite a bit of positivity around at the minute with new teams compared with a few years ago.

Update on Bury Broncos here: files.pitchero.com/clubs/1029/Cl ... verall.pdf and we are looking for locals to play across all age groups...

Sure people from Eccles, Folly, Langworthy, Cadishead, Little Hulton and Irlam can post any news from their patch - and maybe even East Manchester, Mancunians and North Trafford can too!

Update on Bury Broncos here:
I’ll speak from a Folly open age point of view.

We had a great season last year winning the NWML Division one title and gaining promotion the Premier Division. We also made it to the Grand Final unfortunately we got beat off Ulverston on Golden point even though we outscored them 5 tries to 3!! On the whole though it was an excellent season and for the first time in many years Salford now has representation in the top division of North West Amateur Rugby League.

As for next season I think it will be a good achievement to maintain a steady place in the Premier Division and let the young squad build. As for the second team, well we couldn’t raise one last season, but this year it’s been decided to enter one into the entry league so, if there’s anyone out there who fancies playing at a good standard or even if you are new to the sport, get yourself down to Folly – plenty of decent junior sides playing at a decent level as well.

Not 100% on teams outside of the city boundaries.
Bury Broncos ( Whitefield) Open Age & Junior
Mancunians ( Broughton Park RUFC Chorlton ) Open Age
East Manchester Rangers ( Gorton ) Open Age
North Trafford and South Trafford both run junior teams I`m sure if things have changed some one put up the correct info.
If you fancy doing missionary work in Stockport the jobs yours icon_smile.gif

Purely because I had the league spreadsheets open. Below are the registered teams from Greater Manchester who have registered at Open Age and Youth level (U18 and U16). The list excludes Wigan, Rochdale and Oldham as other traditional RL towns. It's not long ago at all since this list would have included NO teams outside Salford except the two in Bolton and Westhoughton, in reality, is closer to Wigan anyway...

Open Age
Folly Lane City Of Salford
Irlam Hornets City Of Salford
Westhoughton Lions Bolton
Langworthy Reds City Of Salford
Bury Broncos Bury
Little Hulton Reds City Of Salford
Bolton Mets Bolton
Cadishead Rhinos City Of Salford
Mancunians Manchester
East Manchester Rangers Manchester
Eccles A City Of Salford
Folly Lane A City Of Salford
Bury Broncos A Bury

U18s
Langworthy Reds City Of Salford
Bury Broncos Bury
Westhoughton Lions Bolton
Cadishead Rhinos City Of Salford

U16s
Folly Lane City Of Salford
Bury Broncos Bury
North Trafford Titans Trafford

I did think as the Doc says he wants to make Salford a rugby league hot bed if he has ever looked at some of the local amateur teams. Could see the benefit of say looking to get involved so there is more of a structured production line.

If you are interested or know anyone interested in getting something going down Stockport way I'm sure the club/foundation would be glad to hear from you and help in some way. Do you now of any suitable existing facilities down that way that could potentially host a RL club?

It's a long time since I played in the claret and black of Stockport ARLFC (1982) but we did have a decent side for a few seasons. We really struggled to attract players from an area dominated by strong local RU sides such as Heaton Moor. We used to play on a pitch in a valley below the flats on Lancashire Hill which I think has gone now and changed at the 3 Crowns pub nearby. I think the club folded in the late 80's, by which time I'd had to give up playing because of a chronic knee injury.

I wish anyone well in resurrecting interest in amateur RL in Stockport.

I only ever played on a Saturday afternoon at open age level but played a few Sunday games with our U17's side. I even played a few times on both Saturday and Sunday, I was black and blue by Monday morning!

[b:3q1ybo22][color=#FF0000:3q1ybo22]Langworthy Reds - "Club Idol 2013"[/color:3q1ybo22][/b:3q1ybo22] Contact us if you are interested in joining Langworthy. No previous experience required, AT ANY AGE! [url:3q1ybo22]http://www.langworthyreds.co.uk[/url:3q1ybo22]:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_71595.png

2013 was a great year for Langworthy Reds. The club was voted nationally through loverugbyleague.com as “Club Idol” which was a competition run for community clubs to showcase their efforts to improve the facilities they have in by involving its member and to work together as a community club. Then the general public were able to cast their vote on who they felt were most deserving for the work done. “The Reds romped home with the competition” (The RFL words not ours) after we renovated the upstairs of the club on a budget of just £1000. A builder estimated had we got builders and other tradesmen in it would of cost us 10 times that amount. All entrants can be seen herehttp://loverugbyleague.com/club-idol/rl

2014 is already shaping up to be an even better year. The club has added two new junior teams and now have teams at U7s, U8s, U9s, U10s, U11s, U12s, U14s, U15s and U18s as well as our cub section for children from 3 years old to 6 years old to come along and join in. On top of that our Open Age team have joined the North West summer leagues and we currently have over 20 women training with a view to joining the national ladies leagues during the year.

Off the pitch we are planning our next project to continue the renovation of our Oakwood Park base with a view to retaining our club idol crown.

As always we are more than welcoming to anyone who wants to get involved with rugby even if not to play but to continue to help take the club forward off the pitch. If anyone is interested in playing then we have a team for pretty much anyone who wants to come along and try their hand at the game. You don’t need to have any experience so don’t let that put you off.

If you do want more information you can contact us through our website rlwww.langworthyreds.co.ukrl or visit our twitter account rl@langworthyredsrl, our Facebook page rlfacebook.com/LangworthyRedsArlfcrl. You can email us on langworthyredsrlfc@gmail.com or even call or text our secretary Mark on 07554 007616.
