| After the samba band's appearance at last night's game, a discussion has appeared on the club's Facebook page where people are suggesting a band making a permanent appearance at home games would be a good idea. This has, of course, prompted a split in opinion, with some people claiming it would be very good and far better than Warrington's drum banger. It has also prompted praise for the Leeds band.
For the benefit of those not on Facebook, and in the interests of opening a wider debate, what are peoples' thoughts on this? Would some sort of band help? Or is it just a contrived, plastic venture that would kill off any remains of a passionate, vocal, inventive and original support at the club?

I'd suggest it would be good in a family section as I'd guess the kids will like it more than us lashed up adults.
Thought the East stand looked very good full last night and it struck me that it would be ideal to promote that as for families as for camera shots the ground looks more highly occupied and having a band in there along with maybe other entertainment might be a winner. Much like if the bar in the South stand was turned into a Salford bar and liberally painted red inside.
I've had experience in the States at Big Ten football games where teams have bands and an adopted song and the team I watched University of Michigan have the fight song ( www.mgoblue.com/genrel/062909aaa.html) which fans really identify with so I guess working towards a band playing a song specifically for Salford Red Devils would add to the occasion.

| Don't want to butt in where I'm not wanted, and can't say I attend the SCS on a regular basis (for obvious reasons) so can't really comment on what the atmosphere 'normally' is like, but that "American-ised" marching band type noise that was emanating from the North East corner at last night's game was a constant annoyance throughout the 80 minutes.
I don't think it did ANYTHING at all to enhance what was otherwise an enjoyable trip to the stadium for me.
This is Rugby League, NOT MLS, NFL, MLB, NBA or any of those other American sports that are attempted to be "jazzed" up by marching bands and majorettes! Let's promote the game to the wider audience in places like America and so on, but PLEASE don't turn it into a high-five slapping charade

| Awful idea. Thankfully it's still quite early in pre season so it will hopefully have been forgotten about by the time the season starts.

| Its one of those things, I'm a nimby or in this case not in my stand (NIMS) I don't want to have some annoying kid with a whistle stood next to me.
If they want a band put them in the end bit of the West stand nr the north stand

| But it doesn't have to be a band like that does it? How about a small ensemble playing Salford red devils related tunes? In appropriate parts of the game? Imagine a starter of songs type band. The first few bars of tunes to get the singers going then leave it and let the boys sing! We did a very similar thing at the Etihad on Tuesday and it went down a storm, playing in the concourse and outside beforehand....

| We need to think about the new fan, not the existing fan. If we do what we always did we will get what we always got.

You're in danger of being described as a misery-guts. I completely agree, though. However, in an age in which corporate elites invariably indulge in populist sentiment, resulting in a clinical, superficial, cocacolonialised (Americanised) interpretation of entertainment, crowd-leading bands designed to whip the consumers into a pseudo-frenzy, appears to be a winner (in numerical terms). Programmes such as the XFactor, devoid of quality in the sense that many understand the word, are hugely successful. Likewise, clubs like Leeds and Bradford have embraced the abovementioned culture and have been a huge draw for large swathes of locals.
It's a brand I do not subscribe to, but if increasing attendance figures is the major objective, the evidence suggests it's a winning formula.

| Stadium Bands = entertainment for people with tiny brains.
Probably why the idea is going down well on the official facebook page.

| South Standers need to pull their finger out and get a decent atmosphere going at games, because apart from the odd occasion the place is like a morgue. Hopefully we don't ever resort to needing a band, but I can see why people are thinking about it.

| I think people are missing the intended point here, surely the idea of a band is to help make the game day experience more attractive to the new type the Doc wants to see week in week out at the stadium. I bet there's none of us won't go if there is a band and that any new families who might be tempted who have younger kids will love the idea.
I'm afraid it's called progress and seems to help create a good atmosphere at other grounds.

| Normally I would say a definite no.
But I didn’t mind the band on Thursday and in our current void of atmosphere stadium and trying to attract families, I have to say lets give it a go. What have we got to lose if it doesn’t work?
JUST AS LONG AS ITS NOT A LONE MORON WITH A DRUM LETS DO IT!
