| Don't know how we will be lining up next year but this is what I think of the current squad, need to bring in a few more players otherwise could be a long season.
I await the replies of a certain members on here telling me the young forwards will come good and Smith is SL level etc... well im sorry but after another season of lets face it im finding it hard to find positives.
Having Sneyd as back up if say Holdsworth gets injured is quite worrying, he may be young but he's not good enough. As is our pack.
I may sound like a miserable fart but i see it as being realistic.
1. Patten, Good in attack, woeful in defence.
2. Williams - Good
3. Gleeson - OK been to injury prone.
4. Nero - Average, never going to make any yards or create anything.
5. Broughton - Good
6. Noon - ?
7. Holdsworth - Good
8. Jewitt - Not good enough, has had 3/4 good games in 2 seasons.
9. Smith - Poor, Improved from first season but still not good enough for a SL top half side in my opinion.
10. Boyle - Done OK, but worrying when he is first choice.
11. Ashurst - Another young promising forward that is going to become great we will wait and see.
12. McPherson - ?
13. Wild - Average player has a good work rate.
14. Godwin - OK, Decent at going forward. Good in defence, Just your average SL hooker.
15. James - Meat head prop, could go well but then again could turn out to be another average forward at Salford who makes little yards. Couldn't get in crusaders squad last year, and worked the doors in the blue bell a few years back before he became full time, time will tell.
16. Adamson/Neal - Not good enough, despite there age.
17. Gledhill - Ill reserve judgement, but he couldn't get a game at Wakey no disrespect intended but if there prepared to let him go then he cant be that good.
Gibson - Wouldn't have him in the team, liability in defence.
Paleaaesina - Does about 10 minutes a game needs a few more salads before the season is upon us.
Sneyd - Not SL level, Decent kicking game that is all.
Anderson - Abysmal first season, surely he can only improve?
Sidlow - Not aggressive enough. For his size he should be making yards and smashing people around the field he doesn't.
Spencer - Never SL
Owen - Never SL
Davidson - Never Sl
Marriot - Never SL

| Not a great deal of optimism there ORD.
What interests me more than basing judgement on a players previous season, is to see how the players react to MP's pre-season. Are they going to be fitter than previous seasons? How quick will they embrace a new coaches ideas, plays and systems? Will they gel as a team? Will they work harder for each other than before?
I realise that I can't summarise player for player with these things because I'm not Mystic Meg. There's little point dwelling on a previous seasons performance as it is not a great tool for predicting future success unless you're a top 4 side. It's more about seeing if our players can up their game as a team rather than dooming them before they've started.
And before the tired phrase of "The Club can do no wrong brigade" rears its weary head, I'd just like to state a little more positivity around here. After all, we're moving to our new stadium, new eager coach, and our youngest side for donkeys years. I see little point in dooming the Club before even pre-season has started.

yes you do
May I be the first to come on and say the likes of Owen / Davidson & Marriot may come good and I feel you're a bit harsh on them , May be right about spanners Lad though.
New signings, got to give them the benefit of doubt until they've had a run out in a reds shirt BTW if we've signed Noon ' Peter ' , he'll be good for the Cabaret Night .
retained squad - time for Parish -Long to show their worth , you never know..

| Totally agree with THE ORIGINAL RED DEVIL. The pack gives me no confidence whatsoever.
1.Patten-Good link player
2.Williams-Average winger-if he breaks the line gets caught
3 Moon- Good reports
4 Nero- Not good enough played for every SL club now
5 Broughton- Good winger-Room for improvement too
6 Houldsworth-Good
7 Smith- Not SL for me but we have no one else
8 James - Adds a bit of aggression
9 Godwin- Poor More cleverer hookers around SL
10 Fat Feka-Poor Praying MP has trained him to death
11 Mcpherson-Good reports
12-Anderson-Poor was great at saints
13-Wilde-Average never gonna set the world alight
14-Boyle- Poor Not SL Prop
15-Gledhill-Give him a go got to be better than Jewitt
16-Ashurst-Give him a go got to be better than Sidlow
17-Gleeson-Poor Better defence than Gibson
I live in hope rather than faith

| Ok, so we've a poor to very average squad for next year by the look of things. Well here's an idea, why don't we just throw the towel in now, turn off the lights, lock up and call it a day ?
Or, (and maybe I'm being super-optimistic here), perhaps we could give it a little time, get fully behind the club and see what happens ?
..and that is the best impersonation of Ex Salford Uni that you will ever get from me

| well as somebody who hasnt watched the boys week in week out this season i dont feel that i have the authority to run the rule over everyone in the squad as much as i did in previous season
What i do know is
Williams isnt a average winger, he is class winger, just like Broughton has pace to burn and knows where the line is, but the different between him and jodie i feel he is a bit braver but i would like to know who was quicker over say 80m
Nero is a fantastic professional, a consistant 7/10 performer, solid in defence, busy in attack yes he is a bit old but he is very versitile, barring horrendus injury we will get another 18 months of him before his engine packs up im sure
Anderson, difficult one, has great hands, defence is all at sea at times, got better as the season went on, started injured hopefully with a full preseason he will give us a bit of xfactor we need.
Feka also improved as the season went on, im sure Mr Parish has had a little word in his ear about his general fitness and would you argue with him? i predict we will see a fitter Feka next season as he know this is his last chance at this level, weather he will become a baynes style recking ball prop forward remains to be seen.
In my eyes its a two way street salford need to play to his strenghts by having dummy runners around him to thin the defence out but he also needs to run in at different angles and get fitter so he can run it in more.
I personally think we are the following
1 hooker
2 big hairy hard props
1 punchy second row
and a Offseason where our players are coached
short, hopefully Matt is in Oz having a look round for players who fit the mold
As for all the negativity i cant see why, new stadium, new facilities, new coach, new begining its an exciting time to be a salford reds fan why dont we try to enjoy it

It's clearly a squad that is crying out for a quality centre and prop at the very least. God help us if we get a few injuries.

You really cant see why some people are negative?
Going into a new stadium with new facilities is obviously a benefit but at the same time it doesn't make poor players suddenly become good. It hasn't worked for Leigh has it?
I'm sick to death of shi!t Bobby and people don't feel they can come on here without other people having a go. I can fully understand why people don't attend anymore all promises and nothing ever changes take last season for example. Our coaching staff shambles, are super big signings turn out to be a joke, the culture at the club is all wrong to ever be successful. We don't have a big budget so I do understand why we have to put up with some of the jokes we have had over the years but it's not just that the culture of the club needs to change from top to bottom.
For a start the club shop/admin side if one of the worst run I've ever seen. They don't reply to emails/calls etc, it was only last season a client at my work wanted us to order him a Salford shirt it took 3 days of constant nagging to get it sorted.
The magic weekend we can ' t run over 4 coaches without everything going tits up, every other club could manage it fine.
Why oh why at the last game of the season with 10,000 people there was there no announcement on season tickets for 2012? What better marketing strategy than for Wilky to come on and announce discounted prices if we hit a certain number or whatever like other clubs have done.
And I'm sorry but if the likes of Tarry came into a big organisation like where I work they'd be nothing more than brew boys.
Things like this all breed negativity around the club, then on the field for years it has been just as bad fans like me have never seen Salford win anything major or even get to a major final with us last wining a major trophy all those years ago is it any wonder we can ' t attract more than 4,000 home fans a game ?
League in 1975/76. And the Challenge Cup was '38.
We do have positives at the club im not denying that, moving into a new stadium like you say is a massive plus, as is our current coaching set up I think Parish, Vievers & Long is a good set up and I hope they can get the best out of the players. We also have to fantastic wingers in Broughton and Williams, and for me have a class act in Holdsworth.
I think the negatives outweigh the positives Bobby hence the reason for being negative, I don't want to build myself up as like last season I don't want to be let down AGAIN.
I don't expect miracles, I expect a competitive team that don't get hammered by 60 points at home and a club that is well run.
And before anyone starts with we don't need fans like me, you will find you do because without fans like me that go home & away (when a lot of the rose tinted brigade on here are sat at home) there wouldn't be a Salford for you to support.

So, are we all just ignoring this?
Like many of you, I'm dissolusioned of how a club with limited funding isn't recruiting world-class, proven internationals. The whole thing stinks of spending within our means.
When will they learn? Probably never. Useless shower of liquidation-fearing tea boys.
They couldn't run a multi-billion pound international company like the one I make tea for. Granted, that requires a workforce of thousands and the income of billions, but my comparison is a fair one. Bunch of dopes...
