Just Days To Go As Reds Prepare For Final Game
"And so it really is upon us. The Commemorative Matchday Magazine is off to the printers, the running order for the entertainment has been finalised. All that now remains is for our famous old stadium to bear witness to its last ever game of rugby league after 110 years.
As the grass sprouts at the new Salford City Stadium in Barton, the last 17 pairs of boots worn by Reds will soon trot out onto the hallowed turf for the final time.
Amidst the guard of honour and the national anthems there will be a minute's silence for Swinton Lion's Dana Wilson, who tragically lost his life at the weekend after playing on The Willows pitch on Friday as well as time to pause for reflection for all those dear to us - family, friends and past players who have passed away during our time here. This may only be a game at heart but underneath it has meant so much to so many.
Then, as Daniel Holdsworth kicks off, every cheer thereafter will be one of the last heard here. Every shout, every gasp of dismay at a forward pass or high tackle - they will all be counting down to the final ever sound.
As we reach the final minute - regardless of the score we want you to make a true cacophony of noise. Bring the bedlam. Scream yourself ho. For that minute - that full minute - will be woven into history forever. That minute will be our fitting tribute to what we are about to leave behind.
For one minute every noise you make will be joined silently by everybody who has stood on our terraces side by side over more than a century. We will join in sound every single fan, father, grandfather, mother, brother and friend that has ever clicked through a turnstile, their hopes high of roaring the Reds to victory that day.
As to Catalans Dragons, our history is laced with an unbreakable connection to our French friends and it is fitting they will take part in this historic occasion. However, let them travel back across the channel with talk not only of Les Diables Rouges but of their magnificent Partisans.
