In the last week Wigan put adverts on TV, Radio and full page in a free newspaper for the Huddersfield game, last season the attendance for this match was 13619, played in August on a Sunday. Tonight it attracted a crowd of 19169 a rise of 5550 or 40.75% on last season, so does telling people about your game and building it up work?

They had an offer on aswell, the first 1000 in each stand getting a ticket for a tenner... thats bound to help.

Not sure that 9th v 11th (or whatever) is quite the same pull as 1st v 3rd......

Possibly when we have got a spare £50,000 to throw at the tv, papers, radio etc we will do it.

so that was good for the travelling fans only a tenner, or was it just for the Wigan fans and not the "away" end. But even with that I reckon they made about £70,000 on last years take.

Think it was for all stands, I remember looking at it a few weeks back.. called it the big weekend offer, or something like that.

To paraphrase the American John Wanamaker: "Half the money spent on advertising is wasted; the trouble is you don't know which half!"

Great effort by Wigan.
However, a 40% rise would take our 3.5k (my guesstimate of our Hudds-at-home crowd) to 5k.
I don't have the figures, but I'd fancy Wigan's outlay on this big marketing push somewhat eclipsed the revenue that 1.5k extra fans (on cheap tickets) would bring us.

I think advertising would work if it was correct.
