strong rumours this morning that sale sharks will opt for a move to barton instead of redeveloping edgeley park home of stockport county. As a season ticket holder of both county and salford my opinions are devided. What are your opinions? as a county fan i want to see the back of them . Many say the have bled the club dry taking the ground removing any hospitality and banqueting profits. Increasing the rent for next season after promising not to. Unsure what will happen if sale do move on and land in the new home of the reds a club i have followed for 25years. Am caught in the middle of this one.

personally don't care, we are tenants at the stadium anyway so won't have any input as to the decision, it will mean the sale sharks will have to rebrand themselves as the Salford Sharks of course, then we would change to the MANCHESTER CITY REDS and how wrong would that be on so many levels. Maybe change to the BLUES and Sheik Mansour would buy JW out and turn us into winners.............mmmmm never gonna happen thank God

Found this statement from Brian Kennedy on the Sale Sharks forum that is apparently being printed in today's Manchester Evening News.

County fans (at least the ones I know, and I work near the ground) want Sale out. Kennedy is not seen as a friend of County. Yes he does but his investment is very low.
Sadly I feel the future at the stadium is to share, and eventually become the junior tenant, with Sale. This has been on the cards once we allowed Peel the guiding hand in the project. Peel will want, as always, to maximise their earnings and this will not take into any consideration our feelings. If it means pushing Salford into 2nd or 3rd place in utilisation of the stadium, so be it.
Also Kennedy was reported in the Telegraph as being very concerned with the funding streams he can attract in his present home. barton is better placed for this.

I have posted many times on this and can be seen as pessimistic when it comes to our future with Sale and Peel.

[iAt the end of the day as long as the Salford City Reds are playing at Barton in the Super League I don't care which ever other teams play there games at the new stadium.[/i

Anyone on here ho seriously thought/thinks that we will be playing in barton alone is a MUG !I have believed all along that Sale will be a major tenants with us.The investors in the stadium are gonna want some returns asap and playing 14 or 15 games of rugby league a year there doesnt make sense! TIME TO FACE REALITY FOLKS

I don't have a problem with it as long as one doesn't undermine the other. As long as things are fair and equal, crack on. We might even attract some cross-code new support. There's very little chance of local RL supporters defecting to watch the kick and giggle, but maybe a few might come across the other way, if they want to see proper Rugby. icon_wink.gif

I totally welcome Sale moving in... I don't like the kick and clap... but if there is nothing to do during the winter and I fancy taking in a game, then it's on my doorstep. I don't really care who comes in and plays there as long as Salford are playing there in the summer in Super League.

Feels to me like when you've been given a gift for your birthday or Christmas only to find that your big brother/sister has more use for said gift than you have and you never actually feel as though you owned said gift and the giver actually wished they had thought of giving them the said gift first.

Considering the stadium has wholey from its concept been built as the new home of Salford City Reds I can only ever imagine if Sale were to move in, that Salford City Reds will be squeezed even further into the unknown as far as public awareness goes. People crossing the Barton Bridge will look down upon it and instantly say 'Oh thats where Sale's new ground is - nice'.

I just read on the link to the other forum the Sale supporters are already calling it [iour[/i ground?

I'm not naive enough to believe the stadium would ever have been soley used by Salford RL but I definately fear the worst for Salford RL or RL IN Salford if Sale were to allow to ground share.

RU has muddied the waters of RL for over a hundred years and I would suggest that the higher authorities on this one think very carefully before ever allowing the kick and clap brigade 1 inch through the door of any negotiation table for a ground share with them. Bet media city are having a field day on this one.

I for one hope this rumour is way off the mark and I could easily think of a 100 ways to make use of the stadium than share it with a RU team.

That statement alone should set off huge alarm bells at Salford Council HQ.

We're in the process of discussions and negotiations and we don't know where that is going to end. "..with the Rugby League season running from February to September, there would be little cross-over with the Union calendar, and its location at the hub of Greater Manchester's motorway network would make it an ideal for vast majority of the Sharks' fanbase....Its large banqueting suite and 12 hospitality boxes would also help Sale generate more commercial revenue from blue-chip home fixtures, an area where Edgeley is sorely lacking at present....We're weighing up all the possibilities and there are clearly possibilities in Salford as well as with Edgeley Park and elsewhere. There's a lot of things to consider," Kennedy revealed'"

""I think what's happened with the cuts and the change at the election has made the Stockport option more difficult," Kennedy admitted.'"

Sounds to me fairly well advanced and a strong possibility of Sale using the venue next season for a selection of games & for the 2012/13 season full time . Who can stop them if the ' powers that be are keen on it ' ...

the award for the most ludicrous statement of the day goes to....................

100 ways? and most would make money beacuse that would be the criteria?

At last the answer to Salford City Reds marketing team worries, anyone who can make statement like that should have no problem upping our crowd to 6, 7 or even 8 thousand.

You sir exaggerate more than the supporter counters at Leigh, Hull KR put together.
