| If the bloke is available, and the board have the money to sort it, Noble is surely the man to take us to the next level.
A longshot I know, but they do come in now and again

| I don't agree there. Michael McGuire took over virtually the same Wigan team that Noble had (he only signed Deacon) and has got them top of the league as well as playing some excellent rugby. He's done fairly well at Crusaders, but he's been able to play a load of Aussies and has got some good assistants with him too. I don't think he did very well with Great Britain either.

I appreciate what you say, but can I see both sides of this scenario.
If MM has guided Wigan to the top of the regular season, all credit to him. But, as you have pointed out, it was Noble who assembled the squad at Wigan, after he saved them from total disaster (bottom of the table with 2 wins from 15 games IIRC). He built the Bulls squad that ruled the roost for some time, and IMO has done a fantastic job at Crusaders in no time at all.
I could be wrong, but he really does seem to be able to steer/inspire whichever squad he is in control of to deliver the goods.
As for the GB job, it's surely a poison chalice unless Australia decide to take up ping pong rather than RL ?
Anyway, I'm off for another San Miguel so will leave it there (for now)

| if noble did well this year with his crusaders team that was thrown together in 2 weeks!!imagine what he could do with the decent signings we have made!!
im getting far from excited for next year, can see it now "now now chris dont pass to broughton to often, just try get a few yards extra up the middle if poss"........"luke,make sure u sit nice and deep to oversea the defence,i dont want u creeping to far forward into attacking positions!"..."feka,,no silly stuff please, its all about percentages,no silly offloads required"...."vinnie,dont get tackling to hard,i want you injury free all season"...."tevita....theres no need to try playing to fast from the play the ball,we just need to get as many full sets of 6 in as poss"......MACRAE=RUGBY GENIUS

Love him or hate him, 163 consecutive appearances should make Stuart Littler a Salford legend in anyone's book :Others/NA.JPG |

| Either ... Brian Smith was rubbish at Bradford and they only started to win things when Nobby took over and Nobby was rubbish at Wigan and they they only started to win things when McGuire took over.
or ... Brian Smith is great but Nobby only succeeded at Bradford thanks to Smith's ground-work and Nobby is great but McGuire only succeeded at Wigan thanks to Noble's ground-work.
One way or the other, Noble must've done something right along the way.
However I think a large chunk of the success at Wrexham his year is down to a certain Mr J. Sharp ... and there's a bloke I would LOVE to see coaching aqt Salford.

| Salford play boring rugby and the players aren't improving, so let's bring in Brian Noble. That's like saying "the kids don't like the babysitter and are afraid of the dark, so let's bring in Josef Fritzl."
Scores an 8 on the Dumbometer.

| Well, we could start with the premise that we need a new coach. Obviously, Salford haven't torn up trees this season, but is that really the coach's fault? Apart from one season, we weren't much cop under Karl Harrison or Steve McCormack or John Harvey or ... how far back do you want to go? At what point do you start to think that the coach isn't necessarily the problem?
To be honest, I don't know if Shaun McRae is a good coach or not, and, I suggest, neither do you. What we do know (because the club has said so) is that we have been operating well below the salary cap (one rumour is that Salford have been operating on 40%). Could that not be a major factor?
However, if you decide that a new coach is required, is Brian Noble really the man? Wigan fans didn't seem to be too upset when he was replaced, and could you really say they haven't been a whole bunch better under Michael McGuire? Brian Noble's style of coaching is to play the percentage, grinding stuff that so many people on here complain about, except he's been more successful because he's had better players to do it with. I remember one Wigan fan at the time saying that Brian Noble relied on individual brilliance rather than teamwork. I'd add "and conning penalties out of referees too". Is that really what you want?

| I say give McRae a chance with a team that costs the full limit of the salary cap. You can't polish a turd, and that is what we have been for many years. When we won a place in SL I said that people should judge him after three years, and that's certainly what I will be doing. Anyone who was expecting miracles with a team of Championship players is deluded.

I heard it was about 70%.
