| OK, first of all nominations and discussion - then we'll have a vote. After we've filled a team, people can post their alternative teams.
So, we've got Gary Broadbent, Jason Flowers, Karl Fitzpatrick and John Wilshere as fairly regular players in that position. Bobbby Thompson, Kris Tassell and David Hodgson as occasionals. Have I missed anyone?

| Some very tough choices there, Broadbent was Mr consistancy and still remains one hell of a player, Fitzy I have to admit I have never rated as a SL quality fullback and my feeling on Wilshere and his driving under the influence misdermeaner are well documented so for me it can only be Hodgy as he is without doubt one of the best attacking players we've had when we have been in SL, had such class when we were going down and for me would be the ex player I would take back first if given the chance.

| Fitzpatrick had a very good season in 2006, as did many of that seasons squad.
His contribution in the two wins at Warrington are the highlight for me. The win on the opening day of the season I am pretty sure he was at half back.
I dont believe we have one stand out player. For a recognised full back it would have to Broadbent however Hodgson was outstanding in the position.

| I'm not sure Bobby Thompson played in "[iThe Noughties[/i" mate I think he only had one season back in '99!
It's a tough one to start with, Fitzy has been great at times and lets just say not so at others, but he has been loyal to the club. Jason Flowers was great in 2003 in our season in NL1 but he didn't really do anything after promotion for me (although he was getting on a bit) Jon Wilshere was a star and real quality player and the more I watch DVD's of games he's played in the more I realise what a class act he was and I'm not sure what position he was best at was it full back, wing or even stand off!! Hodgy was/is a winger (and a damn fine one) for me. Tassell was a centre really and you've forgotten Damien Gibson (who was decent). So that really only leaves me with old Bentlegs a solid and dependable and fearless full back, wasn't blessed with pace but still scored his share (didn't he score a hat-trick on debut?) great defensively and under the high ball, so it has to be...Gary Broadbent for me.

| I would want to vote for Hodgson as one of our best wingers of the decade so can't pick him for two positions.
Wilshere has played in most positions in the backs, although I feel his best position for us has been fullback, and is one of the classiest players to wear the shirt in recent year IMHO, so I may vote for him.
Broadbent is one of my favourite Salford players for his commitment, effort and courage (bit like a Littler of that team?!) so I may vote for him instead.
I haven't checked back but I have a feeling that some Broadbent's best years with us were in the previous decade?
Never really rated Fitzy as a FB (showed promise as a half back but too few good games to win any kind of vote like this IMO) and others mentioned have been cameos at best.
PS. Didn't Joel Caine have a few games at fullback?

IIRC Broadbent made a try scoring debut against Halifax away.
His hat-trick was against Saints at home. Both in the 1997 season obviously.

| Jason Flowers would be my pick.
Just a pity we got him at the end of his career, but that's Salford City Reds all over.

| Garry Jack for me.
I've narrowed my choice down to one of 3..
Gary Broadbent - Solid as. Great last line of defence, good under the high ball and given an extra yard or two of pace I reckon he would've been one of the best in the business. Not the best attacking full-back IMO but certainly better than anything we've had since the likes of GJ. Only remember his first couple of seasons as not a regular attender from around the 2000 season for a couple of years.
Johnny Wilshere - Pure class. Was prone to having the odd 'mare at FB but as previously mentioned by another poster pretty much able to play anywhere across the backline with his great hands and step. Would walk into my team of the noughties but probably at Centre.
Hodgy - The best attacking FB I can remember at Salford. Pace, great step and always a threat when returning kicks. As with JW, FB probably not his best position as he has spent the majority of his career on the wing and would walk into one of the wing spots in my noughties team.
I'm unable to comment on the likes of Flowers & Gibson as don't remember seeing them play much. On that basis it's GB for me.

| It's difficult to pick a player for a position in isolation with the amount of switching about there is these days, but I do think John Wilshere has got to be somewhere in the thirteen and that's probably going to be at full back. He had got touches of class that other candidates did not have - and he could kick goals under pressure. It may be a bit unfair on Gary Broadbent who was one of the toughest and bravest full-backs around, but my vote would go for John Wilshere.
I think there's going to be quite a lot of discussion about every position except hooker as we move on through this selection debate.

| john wilshire for me after a lot of thought about what Gary Broadbent did for us especially that tackle against saints when he was sent off whilst being carried off, a very brave player but JW just shades it.

| It's a tricky one this. Broadbent was a great servant to the club, but possiby had is best seasons in the 90s, Fitzy has certainly been the longest servant within the decade and has been outstanding at time, but injured and hit or miss at others, Wilshere has been absolute class at times but has flitted between positions, andFlowers did a superb job in our promoton season (did he stay on for 2004?).
KOTS - have you got any stats on how many tries/appearances in the dacade?
