| Gareth Walker article in the Mirror today says Theo has turned down a new contract offer from the Reds (contract expires end of next year)
Theo's management agency has said its true on Twitter
Martin Vickers is urging fans not to believe what's in the papers and (correctly) pointing out that Walker didn't contact the club for a comment

| So it's in the papers and Theo's agents have confirmed it's true but Vickers says not to believe it.
I think the logical scenario is, the club have quite rightly offered Theo an extension to his existing contract but as his representatives his agents want absolute commitment from Salford that Theo will get regular first team football as well as the best deal possible which includes turning down the first offer. By going to the press this will no doubt alert other clubs to make offers thus driving up his price even more.
Shame his agents have gone to press on this though, as surely it is a matter to be resolved between themselves, Theo and club in-house particularly as his current deal doesn't run out until the end of 2016.
All that said and done, if Theo loves Salford as much as I am told he does then assurances of first team RL and an improved salary should be all it takes to secure his signature. Although you really couldn't begrudge him a move back to the South of France at some point in his career, I would be very disappointed if we lost him to another English Super League club.
PS - just thought, we don't have a great history of retaining young halves though we do? Myler, Ratchford, Sneyd and I'll throw Turner in there too.

| I think we honestly need to pin Theo down to a long-term contract and eventually start to build a team around him. He's already a quality player and he's undoubtedly going to improve in the future.

| Realistically, I think to secure Theo, the club will have to offer minimum £100k per season and if possible, tie him into longterm contract (6 years minimum)... let's face it, he is still only 20 and has the potential to become one of the best half backs in the modern era

| As a club we should be doing all that it takes to keep hold of Theo. He's a precocious talent and I want to see him in a Salford shirt for his entire career.
As much as it is important to have continuity within the playing squad at the club, it is also equally if not more important to get the right players at the right price.
If I was Harris, Koukash or whoever runs the Football Department I would be offering him £75K for next season and then £100K for the following 3 seasons. £375K Deal.
Theo could go on to being one the best Half Backs/Hookers in Super League in the future, I think people sometimes forget that he's only 20.
I hope he also isn't moaning about playing Hooker and he is doing whats best for the team. We all know that he wants to play Half Back but for me Dobson has to play there whilst he's contracted at the club. I also believe that Theo will make a better Hooker than Half Back in the future and I know a lot of people agree with me on this. Including Harris it seems.
Theo needs to remember that he has plenty of first team football in front of him, Shaun Johnson for New Zealand Warriors didn't even make his debut until he was 20. Theo has played every game for Salford this season and he might turn out to be a big miss in the side tonight.

| Perhaps the panic buying alleged to have gone on over the end of the Noble era and start of the Harris time has bitten us on the bum?
I'm sure Theo & his agents are making the "labourer is worthy of his hire" arguments loud and strong.

| Is anyone really surprised? With Dobson being on a 4 year deal, he is unlikely to want to wait another 3 years before getting his hands on the number 7 shirt.
Throw into the mix an owner who is not exactly offering long term stability at the club and you can see why he would be reluctant to sign a contract extension.

Bloody hell mate, have you never agreed to an increase in advance of the starting term????
Theo's contract is not up until the end 2016, so they can agree & sign the contract now, with new terms coming into effect at start of next season, giving Iestyn, Marwan et al ample time to budget the cap accordingly

Exactly, like i've said before you can't pick a team on who earns the most. Theo was the form halfback pre-season, Dobson should've been made to earn it back. Same with Niall and Locke also Hood and Lee. If you dont pick on form you end up with disillusioned young players who look elsewhere. Then your club is buying numerous players each year to fill the gaps. You need good club men on long contracts for stability and you have more chance with players coming through your own system.
All this said, Theo is signed up till end of 2016 so he probably just wants to wait till next season to see how things lie then. I for one don't blame him at all, its his career and he only gets one chance !!

| When I saw this topic I must admit I LOL'd which for the older folk is 'laugh out loud' This is going to send this forum and twitter into meltdown!
If he wants first team rugby let him go with a buy back clause because he aint shifting Dobson or Chase anytime soon. If he turns out to be this mecurial player then we have first offer on him, like Wigan have done with the players than have gone overseas.
I'd be going all out to tie Evalds downs for my honest opinion.

I’m just not convinced he’s that good, but I do like Theo. His attitude appears to be exemplary. My opinion.

I would concur with that, I think the majority of Salford fans are blinded in their perception of just how good Theo actually is because a) he has been with us since a young age, b) is our current longest serving player, c) plays with 100% every game and d) is a genuinely nice lad. He still has a lot of improving to do before we should be offering him a contract of circa £100k pa. All top scrum-halves have a short and/or long kicking game of sorts and I am yet to see this from Theo. This where I see Michael Dobson helping him over the next couple of years to add this element to his game.
However, when all that is said and done I still want him to stay at Salford and hope he can become our number 7 for many years to come.
