Somewhere in another thread, someone mentioned the possibility of Sean Long returning to the coaching staff. Well, this might not be as far fetched as some of the rumours we get on here because rlhe's left Wiganrl.

I'd get him back for tonight personally,

We've lacked attacking flair since he went.

We took him on knowing he was a risk /unorthodox

but on a coaching level at Salford he had an impact that far outweighed the ' laddishness ' .

in his last game he lost us 2 points

You look at the improved defensive structure last night and wonder what damage could have been done with a bit more Long inspired attacking nowse?

Hope the rumours are true about him coming back as think he brought a great deal to the club when he was on the books

With a bit of luck Sean Long will be back with the Reds on Monday morning.

It's was a blow when he left and if there's a way back for him the sooner the better in my book.

Get him back as soon as. Nobby's defensive structures, Longy's attacking flair. Alan Hunt's youth structure. The Doctor's money. Dream time.

Longy was telling anyone who'd listen at Chester races last weekend how he regrets leaving and would give anything to come back.

How much of last year's attacking flair was Long and how much was Holdsworth/Patten/Moon doing their own thing? I ask as we showed none of the same moves earlier this season while Longy was still here. I'm not having a go at Long, just wondering how tangible his attacking coaching actually is.

I get what your saying but a coach can only show you so much they can't go onto the field and do it for you, this year tbh most of the players arnt up to SL level and trying to throw out plays like last year is just wasted on them, lets wait until we have players like Sau and Meli on the end of certain moves and see how different/brilliant they look. A good set play is only as good as the finish at the end of it. I'd have Longy back tomorrow great experienced player and WILL be a great coach.

Holdsworth & Patten were there before Long and apart from the inside pass to the Fullback joining the back line. non of the more structured attacking moves from 2012 were obvious so there must have been some influence .
I think no pre-season and a squad of rag-tag of hand-me downs & loanees are more responsible for the lack of structure in our attack this season , I'd imagine Wayne Bennett would have struggled.

I'm told he had a good influence on Fages & academy backs and they were gutted when he left. That's what Wigan were after when they took him on but obviously thing didn't go as planned.
